Supernatural Flaws Page 6

by Charlotte Summers

I remember to leave out all the parts Jax’s brother told me to. I mutter about Holly.

“Let’s get them home, he is half mad with the venom,” Someone says before taking Jax away from me. I open my eyes and see only blurs. My wolf surges and I fight the shift.

I panic at not having Jax near me, I fight whoever is trying to grab me. My mind tells me that vampires are attacking but my body refuses to work and my mind goes blank.

  Chapter Twenty

I cough as I wake up. My memories flood me and I yell as I jump up ready to defend both myself and Jax.

“Easy Jake” I hear Holly say from my left and I open my eyes to see worry lining her face.

“I'm fine, where is Jax?” I ask, shoving myself up. The world spins but I force myself to get out of bed, I stumble towards the door and Holly keeps it shut.

“You need to rest,” She says.

“I’ll rest when my best friend is better” I growl.

“Sorry” I mutter when I see the hurt look flash across Holly’s face.

“I’ll take you to him” She sighs and pulls open the door.

She laces her hand with mine and I smile. The sounds of the younger packmates sounds louder to my ears, I shake my head and feel a headache come to life.

“You were nearly gone when they found you” Holly whispers.

“I know, I had to find him. I didn't realise I had got bit” I mutter.

“I know you did” She smiles and I pull open the door to his room. I nearly walk back out when I see him laid there, his chest rises and falls but his pale skin makes me think he is dead.

“Don't forget, he is half vampire” Holly whispers.

“Yeah, but he shouldn't be that pale” I mutter, trying to keep the tears from falling.

  “Where is Maddie?” I ask.

“With Nat and Reece,” Holly says and I nod.

I sit down next to Jax’s bed and grab his hand. I lean my head against his bed and wait for him to wake up.

“Are you going to be here all day?” Holly asks.

“I’m going to be here until he wakes up” I reply and she nods with a smile before disappearing.

I hum softly to myself, hoping that maybe Jax can hear it too. I think about his brother and how he changed his ways to help us instead of hurt us.

Hours go by and nothing happens, my wolf gets restless which in turn makes me restless.

Holly brings me food but I don’t eat it. After a couple more hours I get up and pace the small room.

“You need to rest,” Nat says as she comes into the room.

“I need my friend to wake up” I mutter and Nat sighs.

“He was the same when you got caught, he wouldn't eat or sleep. He disappeared all the time while trying to find you” Nat whispers.

“I don’t know why but I feel connected to him. When I found him I knew we were going to have each other's backs, I haven't had a friend like that before” I reply, feeling the tears I fought so hard to stop, roll down my face.

Nat pulls me in for a hug and I let the floodgate open. She holds me as I cry out all my fears, all my agony and all my mistakes.

“Just know that I love you, I know this is hard for you but he will wake up. You need to take care of yourself otherwise he will be doing the same when he wakes up” Nat says and I frown when I realise she is right.

“I’ll eat but I’m not leaving this room,” I say and Nat smiles.

“At least that is something” She chuckles before leaving the room.

Days go by, I eat for my best friend but I don't sleep. I can't, his brother's word circle in my head until I feel myself going crazy.

“Jake?” I hear a faint voice say and my head jerks up to see Jax’s eyes looking at me.

“Jax?” I choke down a sob.

“I’m okay” He grins and I laugh before rushing to his side and giving him a careful hug.

“I’m so glad” I laugh, my spirits lifted just by the sight of Jax’s eyes open.

“So what's next?” He asks and I frown.

“You are not going on any more missions, I told you to retreat” I mutter and Jax sighs.

“They think they can do what they want, they need to be stopped” Jax replies.

“It doesn't matter, you cannot just go off like that. It could’ve have gotten us all killed” I say and Jax looks away from me.

  “I'm sorry” He whispers.

  Chapter Twenty One

It takes two weeks for Jax to be able to walk. Every day is agonizing for me. The day he gets to walk outside is the day me and Holly will perform the mating.

I shiver at the thought of completing the bond between us.

“You ready for this?” Nat chuckles as she helps Jax down the steps.

“I think so,” I ask more than answer.

“That’s how I felt when me and Maddie got mated” Jax laughs but cringe at so unknown pain.

“Just follow your wolf, it’s different for everyone” Nat smiles at seeing me so nervous.

“I can take on vampires and hunters but this scares the hell out of me” I laugh.

A howl meets my ears and I gulp, it’s time.

“Go! I’ll look after Jax” Nat laughs.

I roll my eyes as I hear him curse in reply. I jog around the back of the pack building to find Holly stood in the centre while werewolves both in wolf form and human form line the walls.

Nat and Jax get there just as I reach Holly who looks just as nervous as me. She hugs me and I give her a quick kiss before looking at my mum for help.

She shakes her head with a smile.

I ask my wolf for help and he shows me what to do. Holly’s eyes start to glow golden and I let mine do the same, we circle each other and let our wolves out to get used to our scents.

Unlike every other mating, we grab hold of each other's arms and let out a howl, together our howl creates a bond that I can see twirling around our arms. I nearly freak out but my wolf tells me it's okay.

Once our human bond is complete we shift to our wolves and let them do the mating too.

My wolf is so excited that he trips over his own feet, causing both me and Holly to fall to the floor. I huff a laugh while Holly's wolf rolls her eyes.

Once the bond is complete we howl together, the pack join in and I feel my pack bond grow stronger just like my mate bond.

We slip away and I shift into human form, Holly giggles as she comes out of her room.

“We did it” I laugh and she nods. I pull her in for a kiss which she deepens.

I grab her hand and we head back out to the pack. I grin when I see Jax sat at a table. Holly kisses my cheek and goes to talk to the girls while I head over to Jax.

“Well your wolf was more nervous than you, it seems” He laughs and I give him a playful shove.

  “He was excited” I reply.

Nat slides in another seat and hands me a plate of food. I wolf it down without even looking at what it was.

“You would think we starve you” Nat laughs but frowns.

“They did, a wolf has got to eat” I shrug it away like it was nothing but I can see Jax frowning at me.

We sit and talk all day. By the time darkness settles in I feel my body just wanting to sleep.

I can see Jax feeling the same and I tilt my head towards the house. He grins at me and I turn to the group.

“I’m sorry to break up the party but me and Jax are shattered. Still healing” I say, which gains chuckles from the group.

  “Take care” Someone shouts.

“I’m only going inside” I yell with a laugh and I see the person shrug with an answering laugh.

“Good night” I shout and everyone answers back.

Holly skips to my side and I smile at her as I help Jax to his bedroom, Maddie follows us.

“See you tomorrow,” I say to Jax who nods.

Once we get to my room I collapse on the bed. Holly curls up by my side and I let the dream world take me.

Chapter Twenty Two.

Rain pours from the dark clouds. I shiver as I remember the time I got caught and the look on Jax’s face when I went down.

Holly shakes me out of the thoughts with a kiss on my head. I smile at her before wrapping my arms around her middle.

“Do you think this will ever end?” She asks in a quiet voice.

  “I hope so” I reply.

Nat and Reece play happily in the rain while Jax and Maddie watch them while laughing.

“Even if it doesn’t we have each other’s backs” I smile and Holly nods her agreement.

“Let’s go for a run?” I turn to see Jax waiting for my answer.

“You wanna?” I ask Holly who nods with excitement in her eyes.

“Yeah sure, meet you outside” I chuckle.

I lead Holly to my room. She bounces with the need to shift and I find myself wanting to shift just as much as she does.

I pull her into my room and kiss her soundly on the lips. She growls and pulls me closer, she deepens the kiss and I pull away before anything else can happen.

“We promised” I chuckle at her pouting face.

She gives me a cheeky grin before pulling her clothes off and letting the shift happen. I turn away and do the same.

Once the shift is complete Holly barks at me with a wag of her tail. I nudge open my door and dart off towards the outside door.

Jax lets out a howl when he sees me. I match the howl and take off after him. Maddie and Holly race away to go play while the boys go off to be boys.

I jump over a fallen log, missing the rock and landing in a muddy puddle. I hear a wolf’s laughter and see Nat and Reece watching me. I give a mock growl before bouncing towards them. Mud flies from my coat as I shake, Nat and Reece run for cover but I’m faster.

Holly's howl sounds loud in the woods and I snarl. My paws already flying in the direction the girls went. Jax matches my pace as we race to get to our mates.

I leap over Holly and let my fur raise to five times my size. The red glare of a vampire meets my eyes and I take a step towards him.

I frown at Jax's brother but he gives a tiny shake of his head. He scowls at me.

Jax snarls as he shoves Maddie away from the vampire.

“I should have killed you when I had the chance” The vampire snarls at me and I realise he is trying to make sure Jax doesn't put two and two together.

Jax launches himself at his brother and for a second I see the hurt look cross the vampire's face.

He knocks my best friend away as if he was nothing but a fly. I jump at the vampire but he grabs my fur and shoves me to the ground. I hear Jax let out a growling warning to leave me alone.

The vampire lets me go and I back away to guard the girls. Jax disappears and returns in human form.

“What do you want?” Jax balls his fists with the need to fight.

“I’m here to give you this, although I am getting tired of this” He hands Jax a letter. I growl when blood meets my nose. I frown slightly, Jax should know that his brother saved both mine and his life that day.

“The war begins, I don't want any part of it anymore” Jax’s brother shakes his head and Jax frowns.

“Join us then? You can hide out here” Jax says and I shake my head at the vampire who scowls at me.

“No, I can’t. This is life now” His brother says.

In the blink of an eye, he is gone. I take a step in the direction that I think he went but Jax holds up his hand to stop me. I nearly ignore him but respect for my friend makes me hold still.

“We need to get this letter home now, I’ll go. Jake, will you make sure Maddie gets home safe?” Jax asks.

I nod to him and wait until he is gone before nudging both girls back towards the pack house.

As I’m walking I let out a howl, calling for Nat and Reece to meet us at the house. Nat’s voice replies and I trot home. The girls stay either side of me and I scan the woods for danger as we get closer to home.

Once I get the girls in safely I trot to my room and close the door. I let myself become human again.

I quickly pull on black faded jeans and a blue shirt before jogging into the living room. Percy, Nat, Reece, Ivan, Jax and the girls of our pack wait for me.

“This is the final battle of the wills,” Jax says and I frown at him.

He hands me the letter and I choke down a sob at the thought of blood being used as ink.

The final battle of wills is coming. Give up now, you will never win against us. Werewolves are all but gone and you are the last ones who continue to fight.

The war is coming to you!

“We will be ready” I growl. My pack nods in agreement and I pull Holly to my side. She stares at me with determination and I match the emotion in her eyes with my own.

“We have lost so much but we will fight until the last breath. It's the only way we can live in pace” I say and Jax places a hand on my shoulder.

“We fight together, always” Jax whispers and I smile at my best friend.

“Yes, as a pack” I reply.

  The end.
