Bobbie Mendoza Saves the World (Again)
Page 8
Elf dance parties are the best.
Speaking of elves, Gumdrop and Phil now spend a lot of their off-seasons working as butlers on Mer-Woman Island alongside Tabitha and the rest of the mer-ladies.
And as far as Grumpus goes, he and a few of his more sinister nightmare goons are locked up in the most restrictive prison in the Trans-Dimensional World—located on Ninja Puppy Island.
And as for me, not too much has changed. My mom and dad still get a little too proud of me for doing very basic things.
But I guess I’ve lightened up a bit. I don’t worry so much about every little thing. Because worrying and stress and all that stuff just makes you afraid, and being afraid leads to bad dreams, and as of recently I like my dreams.
Ugh, fine, I guess I’ll say it . . . it helps to have people around who understand what you’ve been through. People you can talk to. People who make you understand that it’s okay to be whatever way you are.
For me it was realizing that being special can be normal. Like I said, I haven’t changed much. I still like to wear black (it still goes with everything, even me), I still like waffle-pops (frozen is better), and I still sometimes like to paint the toenails of my little brother, Tad, when he falls asleep.
I’m still the same me.
Except I’ve saved the world twice now.
And that’s pretty special, right?
The End
Acknowledgments
We’d like to thank everyone at HarperCollins for letting us go a second round in the ever-expanding Bobbie Mendoza–verse. (Watch out Marvel, farting spiders are the new Thor!) We’d especially like to thank our editor, Nancy Inteli, for championing our silly ideas and our art director, Rick Farley, who really put a lot of thought into how many colors make up a good unicorn tail (seven). And a massive thank-you to our wonderful agent, Dan Lazar, who helped us get The Naughty List off the ground and kept pushing for a sequel that finally answers the question—how would a mer-man get around on dry land? It’s been a wild ride marked by too much coffee, not enough sleep, and just the right amount of pie.
