Edge of Love
Page 2
Sean played with my engagement ring and watched the diamonds catch the light. Not only did I love the ring because of its apparent beauty, but because my entire family had customized it together. When I looked at it, I didn’t just think of Sean but our entire life together. I finally had what I always wanted—a real family.
“You know what I hate about our relationship?” he asked.
The question startled me. I didn’t know what he meant, but it didn’t sound good. “What do you mean?”
“How turned on I get being around you. Most of the time, I can’t think about anything else but being with you.”
I sighed in relief. “I love that about our relationship.”
He smiled mischievously. “Yeah, I already knew that.”
I hit him on the shoulder. “I mean it. I love that you’re my best friend and the best sex I’ve ever had.”
“Really? You have my attention.”
“Don’t be an ass. You already knew that.”
“But I don’t mind hearing it again.” He kissed me on the forehead. “You know you’re the best I’ve ever had, right?”
I found that hard to believe. He’d been with so many women, especially Penelope, one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen. “I find that unlikely.”
Sadness crept into his features. “Babe, I wouldn’t lie to you. I’ve been with a lot of women but none of them compare to you.”
“Not even Penelope?”
He kissed my forehead. “There’s no comparison.”
“Really?”
He pressed his forehead against mine. “I’ve never been more satisfied than I am with you. I’m not going to lie. I enjoyed being with Penelope, but she never wanted to fuck like you do. Your spontaneity and aggression is unbelievable and amazing.”
I smiled. “So you don’t think I’m a slut?”
He laughed. “I didn’t say that.”
“Well, we screw all the time because I’m a hot piece of ass.”
“Then that means I’m a hot piece of ass, too.”
I shrugged. “You’re not bad to look at.”
He laughed. “It didn’t seem that way on the plane.”
“I was just horny.”
His eyes grew soft as he looked at me. “Only for me, right?”
I grabbed his face and kissed him gently, running my fingers through his hair. I was lost in his eyes when I realized that the car had stopped. We were parked in the roundabout before the three story mansion. The building was brown and covered in vines that reached up to the windows. Flowers and trees were scattered everywhere in front of the house. It was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. I still couldn’t believe Sean grew up here.
“This place must have been a babe magnet,” I said.
He smiled. “Why do you think I lost my virginity when I was fifteen?”
I laughed. “I thought it was because you are a good looking stud.”
“Well, that helped, but I think the house tipped the scales.” He looked at me. “I wonder if it will have the same effect on you.”
“Not if we sleep here.”
He rolled his eyes. “Whatever, Scarlet. If we stay here, we’re going to make love every night despite your protests. I’ll wake up in the middle of the night to you riding me.”
“There’s that cockiness again.”
He smiled. “Are you ready?”
I sighed. “I guess.”
Sean paid the cab driver then opened the door. He grabbed our luggage from the trunk and placed it on the ground. I was about to reach down and help him when the front door opened.
“They’re here, dear!”
I looked up to see his mother walking toward us. She wore a pencil skirt and a blue blouse. Her long brown hair reached down to her shoulders. An ordinary white gold necklace hung around her throat and contrasted against her pale skin. A matching bracelet was around her slender wrist. She was beautiful, graceful, and elegant. I always loved his mom like my own.
“Hello, Diane.” I smiled at her then embraced her. She held onto me for a moment before she kissed me on the cheek.
“We’re so happy you’re both here. We haven’t seen you since Christmas.”
“I apologize for both of us.”
“And Seattle?” she asked. “What’s in Seattle?”
“My family.”
Sean walked toward his mother and hugged her. He was much taller than the petite woman, and his arms circled around her easily. “Hello, mother.”
“Hello, honey.” She kissed him on the cheek. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too,” he said.
I felt a hand on my shoulder and I turned to see his father grinning down at me. He reminded me of Sean. They had similar features, and they were the same height and the same build. There was no doubt they were related.
“Hello, Scarlet.” He pulled me in for an embrace. “You are as beautiful as ever.”
I smiled. “Thank you, Andrew.”
“I speak the truth.” He turned to Sean. “Give your old man a hug.”
Sean stepped toward him and hugged his father tightly. He patted him on the shoulder. “You’re looking old as hell, dad.”
Andrew laughed. “Well, you’re going to look like me someday.”
“I hope not.”
Andrew looked at his wife. “Well, as long as you don’t pick a wife as crazy as your mother you should have better odds.”
Diane patted his arm. “You love me, dear.”
He sighed. “Unfortunately.”
I chuckled to myself. They were so cute together. They had been married for twenty years and they were still happy together. They teased each other, but I knew they did it because they loved each other.
“Let me help with the bags,” Andrew said. He grabbed two suitcases and carried them to the front door. Sean trailed behind him with the remaining luggage. When we got inside, Andrew started to move up the stairs. I glared at Sean and he caught my look.
“Dad, let’s leave the bags by the front door.”
Diane’s eyes widened. “Why?”
Sean placed the heavy luggage on the floor. “Scar and I are going to be staying elsewhere for the night. We’ll take my old car.”
Andrew stared at us, dumbstruck, and Diane looked like she might faint.
She glared at Sean. “Elsewhere? You will do no such thing. You will stay here and that’s the end of the story. I won’t allow my son to stay at a cheap hotel in town. Absolutely not.”
Sean sighed then glanced at me. I knew it was hopeless. There was no arguing with his mother. Sean continued to stare at me, trying to read my thoughts.
“Thank you for the offer, Diane,” I said. “We would love to stay here.”
Diane clapped her hands together. “Perfect. Come on, dear. Let’s take their bags upstairs.”
When they turned away, Sean looked at me. “I told you,” he whispered.
“And I told you we wouldn’t be having sex.”
Sean laughed. “Okay, Scar.”
“I’m serious.”
He smiled then rolled his eyes. “Whatever you say, babe.”
Diane looked at us. “What was that, dear? Did you say something?”
Sean looked at his mother. “Scarlet was just admiring the new painting on the wall.”
I looked at the painting he was nodding to. I didn’t even notice it was there.
Diane smiled. “Thank you, honey. We got it in Italy last month.”
I nodded. “It’s beautiful.” I stared at the painting but I wasn’t sure what I was even staring at. It just looked like a weird ball on top of a ladder that was sprayed with mustard. Perhaps I just wasn’t cultured, but I never understood art. I never cared for it.
We walked up the flight of steps to the second landing then entered Sean’s old bedroom. There was a queen size bed in the room, two dressers, a basketball hoop on the back of his door, and a private bathroom. His window overlooked the beach and held a balcony. I st
ill couldn’t believe he grew up here. Andrew and Sean carried the bags into the room and placed them at the foot of the bed.
When Andrew stood up straight, he looked at his son. “Why do women always overpack?”
Sean shrugged. “I don’t get it either.” He pointed to the smallest bag, which was half empty. “That’s all I brought with me.”
I rolled my eyes. Sean teased me for everything.
Diane smiled at us. “We’ll let you get settled. There will be drinks and snacks on the patio whenever you’re ready.”
She left the room and closed the door behind her.
I sighed in relief. That wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. But then again, they didn’t know Sean and I were engaged yet. I walked over to the window then opened it, letting the sea breeze enter his bedroom. The sound of the waves reached my ears and calmed my beating heart. I returned to the bed and sat at the foot of the mattress. Sean sat beside me.
I felt the bedspread against my fingertips and looked at the blue comforter and matching pillowcases. I’ve never sat on his bed before. I tested the springs by bouncing on the mattress and realized the coils were quiet. “I feel weird sleeping in this bed.”
“Why?”
“You’ve fucked so many women on it.”
He smiled. “I popped a lot of cherries.”
I rolled my eyes. “You’re so gross.”
“What?” He laughed. “It’s the truth. This isn’t brand new information. I wasn’t always the sweet guy I am now. I used to be a pervert. I’ve never hidden that truth from you.”
I crossed my arms over my chest and looked away from him.
“I really want to make love to you on this bed.”
“Why?”
“Because it would be my first time. And I want my first time to be with my fiancé, the woman I’m going to marry.”
I smiled. I couldn’t help it. Even when he was being gross, he could be the sweetest guy that I ever met. “What about Penelope?”
“She refused to have sex in my parents’ house.”
“I guess she does have some class after all,” I said sarcastically.
He wrapped his arms around me then kissed my neck. “Please don’t think about the others. They meant nothing to me. I can’t even remember them all. Also, it was a long time ago. You’re the only one that matters. As far as I’m concerned, the past never happened.”
I wrapped my arms around his neck then kissed his lips gently. He could make me melt so quickly. Just a moment ago I was disgusted with him and his past, but now I was so moved I could cry. I still couldn’t believe that Sean and I were going to spend the rest of our lives together. Nothing had ever made me so happy.
Sean pushed me back on the bed then leaned over me, kissing me gently. My hands ran up and down his back, rubbing his muscles. He grabbed my legs and wrapped them around his waist. His growing erection rubbed against my hip and it made me moan. My fingers ran through his hair and I felt the soft strands of his brown locks.
Sean broke our kiss and looked me in the eye. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.” I pulled his face back to me then continued to kiss him.
“I’m the luckiest cocky asshole in the world,” he said between kisses.
“I’m the lucky one, Sean.” I felt my desire course through me as I felt him kiss me. I know I said I didn’t want to have sex in his parents’ house, but now I didn’t care. It was in the middle of the day and we just arrived, but I already wanted him. I unbuttoned his jeans and reached my hand in his underwear, stroking him.
He pulled away from me. “That didn’t last long.”
“Shut up and make love to me.”
He pulled down his pants and underwear. “I’m on it.” He lifted up my dress and pulled my underwear away. “I’ve never been happier in my whole life, Scar. I want you to know that.”
I kissed him. “I do.”
He locked his gaze to mine before he entered me.
The knock on the door shattered the moment. “Sean?”
I groaned in frustration and pulled down my dress. Sean stood up and dressed himself with lightning speed. I had a feeling he’d been caught by his parents before. I fixed my hair before he opened the door.
“Yes?” he asked. I could hear the irritation in his voice. I was just as aggravated as he was.
Diane smiled. “I just wanted to let you know that Mike is coming soon. I’m so excited to have my two boys together.”
Sean nodded. “That’s great.”
“I’ll see you soon.” She left the doorway and retreated down the hall.
Sean closed the door and sighed. He returned to the bed and sat beside me. I knew he was irritated before our rendezvous had been interrupted, but now he looked angry—livid.
“What is it, babe?”
Sean said nothing for a moment. Finally, he looked at me. “Scar, you need to promise me something.”
My eyes widened in confusion. How did this conversation become so serious? We were playful just a moment before, but now Sean was acting like he was asking for his dying wish. “I’ll do anything for you, Sean.”
He nodded his head, pleased by my response. “I don’t want you to ever be alone with my brother—ever.”
I stared at him, not comprehending what he was saying. “But I love Mike.”
“Scarlet.” He pressed. “Just do this for me.”
I didn’t understand the necessity of his request. Mike had always been kind, sweet, and respectful toward me. He asked me out a long time ago, but after I rejected his offer, he never brought it up again. I couldn’t imagine what happened to make Sean act this way. They had never been particularly close, but I never thought they were enemies either. “Why?”
Sean sighed. “I just don’t want you being alone with him. I don’t trust him.”
“Sean, I understand you’re protective of me after the incident with Carl, but Mike would never do something hurtful to me. And I’m your fiancé. It doesn’t make any sense why he would.”
He ran his hands through his hair in frustration. “Scarlet.”
I flinched at the anger in his voice.
“Do as I ask, please.”
I stared at him for a moment. He was being totally unreasonable, but I decided to humor him. If it made him feel better, then there was no harm. And I would never be alone with Mike anyway. I was always with Sean. “Okay, babe.”
He grabbed my hand then sighed in relief. “Thank you.”
I wanted to pick up where we left off, but I knew it wasn’t a good idea. I lost my logical thought for a moment and I knew I couldn’t do it again. We almost got caught. That would have been so awkward.
Sean sighed then ran his hands through his hair. I could tell that he was still frustrated. “What happened between you two?” I asked.
He shook his head.
“Why won’t you tell me? You tell me everything.”
“I just don’t want to.”
The pain in his voice startled me. “Now or never?”
He shrugged. “I just don’t want to discuss it right now.”
I nodded. If Sean didn’t feel like talking about it, I wouldn’t push him. He would confide in me whenever he was ready. When I looked at him, I could still see the irritation and stress on his face. I wanted to make him feel better.
I left the bed and kneeled on the floor, positioning myself right between his legs. Sean’s eyes widened when he looked down at me but he didn’t say anything. I moved closer to him and unbuttoned his jeans then pulled them down to his ankles. When Sean realized what I was doing, he couldn’t hide his excitement. His breathing picked up and he swallowed the lump in his throat. His erection appeared from midair.
I pulled down his boxers and exposed him to the sea breeze coming from the window. His tip was already emitting a small drop of liquid. I licked my lips as I stared at his engorged penis.
Sean moaned. “Scarlet.” He wrapped his hand around my neck, his fingertips re
sting against the back of my head. I could feel his hand shaking as he gently rubbed the skin of my neck. Other than sex, this was his favorite activity to do. He always lost control when I went down on him, and he was having a hard time playing it cool.
I grabbed the base of his cock and gently licked his balls. As soon as my tongue touched his skin, he moaned loudly. His breath came as a gasp as he breathed through the pleasure. He tightened his hand on the back of my neck as I licked my tongue up the base of his dick. The arousal overcame him and he grabbed a chunk of hair with his other hand, fisting my strands. “Fuck yes.”
I lowered my mouth on him and pushed his cock to the back of my throat.
“Yeah.” His hips started to thrust gently into my mouth. “Yes, Scarlet.”
I started to move him inside me quicker. Sean never lasted long when I went down on him. Sometimes he was embarrassed about it because he came so quickly, but I didn’t judge him for it. I knew I gave excellent head.
He untied the strings of my halter top and pulled down my dress, revealing my breasts. I pulled my mouth away then stroked him harshly for a moment, making him gasp loudly. He had completely lost control in the moment. He was at my mercy. I pulled my mouth away then pressed his dick in between my tits, rubbing up against him.
“Dammit, Scarlet. Fuck.”
I pressed my tits together and moved quicker. He stared at my chest while he tit-fucked me, moaning quietly. Then, he closed his eyes and bit his lip. I knew he was about to explode.
“I’m gonna come.” He took a deep breath. “Yeah, Yeah. I’m gonna come hard, Scar.”
I returned my lips to his cock and deep-throated him quickly. A moment later, he gripped my neck and thrust into me gently.
“Yes. Fuck yes.” He bit his lip as he emptied himself in the back of my throat. I moaned as he came into me, making his orgasm even better. “Scarlet.”
I pulled my mouth away then licked my lips. “Yummy.”
He tried to smile at me but his lips weren’t responsive. He was still coming down from his high. He lied back on the bed and closed his eyes, still breathing quickly. I climbed on top of him and trailed my fingers down his chest and stomach, making him relax. He opened his eyes then looked at me. “What happened to no sex?”
