  Chapter Nine

  Serenity

  Today’s the day.

True to his word, Ryan texted me in the morning, setting up a time to get together when classes were done. I wasn't sure if it was a residual reaction to the lack of sleep I'd gotten the night before or if it was something else, but I found myself excited, even going so far as to will time to speed itself up in anticipation.

After calling for Gabriel the night before, I needed a distraction. I don't know what I’d been thinking, but it’s pretty obvious he hadn't meant a word of what he told me the day before. He was just like all the others that had come and gone in my life.

Unreliable and the worst kind of liar.

While I should have been happier knowing I was right, I wasn't. It hurt. Despite my trust issues I really had put faith in the mysterious voice that for weeks now had never let me down. I’m the biggest kind of fool.

Making my way into biology and taking my seat I thought back to the way Emma reacted when I told her everything before I left.
