I hugged Nolan and left the office. I didn't turn back. I knew her ex was already in my team's custody, but I wanted to be there to seal the deal.
A couple of minutes out of Montreal and I was down at the old port. I knew which warehouse to go to. The team was waiting for me with him.
"Hey, Ice. We got you, man." I shook Renegade's hand.
"Thanks, man. So, is that him?"
He was sitting on the chair, restrained to it. "Fuck, man, I don't know you. I got money, plenty of money I can give you in exchange for whatever you want."
I lowered myself to look directly into his eyes. "You think that you can buy us." The other three that were with us snickered.
"You already started the process. Who did it?"
"Sorry, Ice, but he started to fight me. Self-defense you know," Sensei said to me. I chuckled. "Tell me which self-defense he did. You're a black belt of so many styles, man."
Sensei smirked. "Well, apparently he didn't receive my resumé, so I decided to prove it to him rather than tell him. You know what I mean."
All of us laughed. He began to realize that he was trapped. "What are you going to do with me?" he dared to ask.
"Me, not much. But I know a certain family that wants you. Especially after I told them what you did to my woman."
"I don't know your fucking woman, man." The rest of the team looked at me, but I remained cool. I didn't get the name Ice for nothing.
"Well let me set it straight then. Leslie Anderson. Ring any bells?"
"That fucking bitch, yeah I know her. She was the one making that arrangement with the family. I swear."
I finally lost my cool and punched him.
"Oh no, not good. Ice just became hot instead," Renegade said with amusement. He was right; I never lost my control.
Just then, members of the mafia that her ex had gotten involved with walked in. "I see you started to play without us."
"No, we just started it so you'd have it all ready for yourself," I replied.
I stared at the head of the mafia family. "So, we have a deal. You leave Leslie out of it and never contact her or my brother or us, in any way."
He nodded.
"My men will take him. It's been a pleasure doing business with you, Mr. Wingate."
"For this deal, yes."
I glared at the ex. I never got his name, and never wanted to. To me, he was the ex, someone that belonged in my future wife's past. He screamed when the group of men grabbed him.
After they left, I looked back at my old team. "Thank you all--Renegade, Sensei, and Hacker. That means a lot to me."
"There's nothing I wouldn't do for my chief. You know that we owe you our lives. If it weren't for you, we would have been dead on that fucking mission," Renegade said.
"If you need anything, for any reason, you know where to reach me."
"Will do, man," Hacker said.
We all shook hands and left each other's lives.
Now it was time to go to my new life with my soon-to-be wife and twin brother.
When I entered the office, I knew that something was off. I saw Leslie sitting on Nolan's lap, crying.
"What happened?"
"Did you finish your mission?"
"Yes, without any problem, but why she is crying?" I approached her and started to stroke her hair from her face.
"Suzie."
"What about her?"
Leslie gave me a small piece of paper, and I read it. Fuck. I hoped that Jonathan and Simon were on a hunt. They needed to bring their woman back.
"Do they know?"
"I don't know. Both of them are MIA and didn't say when they would be back."
I knew Jonathan was in the military, but as for Simon, it wasn't clear what he did before being a lawyer.
"Hey, love, they will bring her back."
"You promise?" She was killing me with her big watery eyes and red nose.
"They will, and they will not stop until they find her. I know that part of their life. They were too stubborn to make it official. It won't be like that for us."
I kissed her, and she leaned on me.
I hoped they would bring her back. Make her see. But they would also need to believe in it. I didn't think that Suzie would settle for less than what we have.
"I hope they love her."
"I know they do, but they are way too stubborn. Maybe this will help to bring them back to reality," Nolan told Leslie.
Yeah, they needed to make a move and make her theirs.
Epilogue
Dear Leslie,
First of all, I'm happy for you. You deserve this after how you were treated. But I would be lying if I said I'm not envious of your situation.
I decided to leave for good. I need to separate myself from them. They don't love me. They only want my body. I want what you have, and I will not settle for less.
Don't be worried. Knowing me, you know where I'm going. I am going to be safe. Safe to heal my heart and to move on.
I will be back, I promise you. I need to do this for myself right now. I will keep in touch, but I will not write where I'm going.
Be happy. It's not a final goodbye. It's just see you later.
Live your life like you should have done years ago. They love you. Tell everyone they will be in my thoughts, and I will keep you informed.
I hope you will not be too sad.
