Her heart sank hearing that truth. The future she saw was perfect, something she wouldn’t have even dared to dream about before, but now that she had seen it, she wanted it more than anything else. It was too good to be true though, it had to be. Something would happen along the course of time to mess it up; it seemed almost inevitable in her life. Still, the vision she saw of herself walking down an aisle to marry Milo didn’t see too distant of a future. They both looked pretty much the same just like everyone else did that she saw, not really any older, and it was that vision that set off the train of events that followed. If they could get to that point, then maybe the other things could fall into place too.

Tessa sat at the kitchen table drinking a cup of hot chocolate. Her phone sat on the table in front of her, silent. It had been several days since Dracul had attacked, and she hadn’t heard anything yet from anyone in her family. Milo’s arms wrapped around her from behind, and she leaned back into his warmth.

“It will be alright Tess. Jim said he would protect Hailey and your mom,” he said, nuzzling her neck.

“I just wish he would call or something. I hate not knowing what’s going on,” she replied.

He moved and sat down at the table next to her. “Were they in your vision?”

She still hadn’t told anyone about the vision she had; she wanted it to come true, and she didn’t want to do anything to jinx it. “My mom and Hailey were there, I’m not sure about my dad though.” It struck her for the first time that she was walking down the aisle alone, or she thought she was. What did that mean for her father?

“Then I’m sure they are safe,” Milo tried to reassure.

Just then, Sam came in the door followed by Ethan who had an excited look. “Neutron finally posted,” he said.

Tessa sat up straighter. “What did he say?”

“He said that they are safe,” Ethan replied.

Relief washed over Tessa. “Good. Did he say where they are?”

Ethan shook his head. “No, but he did say that Dracul was wounded pretty badly and it will take time before he is at his full health again, which confirms that he is in fact alive.”

Even though Tessa already suspected it, hearing it still made fear grip her insides. “Did my dad give any way to contact him?”

“No,” Ethan said with a frown. He was disappointed in this as well since they all had so many questions for Jim. They wanted to know what he knew about visions especially. Visions, like everything else about Tessa were incredibly rare.

“What are we supposed to do now then?” Tessa asked feeling stuck.

“We wait,” Sam said. “That’s all we can do, is wait until Jim contacts us and we can go from there.”

“We could always go somewhere, try to disappear,” Ethan suggested. “It’s wouldn’t solve anything, but it could buy us some time.”

Tessa quickly shook her head. “I can’t run. What if my dad tries to find us and we aren’t here?”

“Then we train, all of us,” Milo decided. “So when Dracul attacks again, we will be ready for him.”

“We are going to need Gifted people with fire and air,” Sam said. “We need to get it right.”

“I think I might know a girl with air who will help,” Ethan informed.

“And I might know one with fire,” Sam added. “She’s a little bit much though, and I turned her down so that might take some convincing.”

“It’s worth a try,” Ethan said, pulling out his phone. He left the room, soon followed by Sam.

Milo grasped Tessa’s hand. “Are you okay?”

She stared back into his eyes while tears filled hers. The vision of her future flashed in her mind, and the man sitting next to her was responsible for all of it. “As long as I’ve got you, I’ll always be okay.”

He kissed her hand. “You’ll always have me Tess. I’m not going anywhere, ever.”

Stifling a cry, she dove into him, embracing him tightly and never wanting to let go. His arms wrapped around her, holding her close. Never before had she felt so loved, so happy and content, and she knew that as long as she had Milo, anything was possible. Together, they could face anything.

  To be continued…
