To Steal from a Demon (A Wielders Novel Book 2)

There were rustling noises in the half-light of the room and Spout put loaves and cakes onto his bed, before offering him a cup of water. Skulks reached out, noticing that his hand was missing, though the stump had healed over and there were signs of regrowth. He used his remaining hand to grasp the mug and drained it in one swig.
“Is Lunder dead?” he asked, his voice clearer now that the water had washed some of the sleep debris from his mouth.
“Yes, he’s dead.”
“He could have survived my dagger!” said Skulks.
“He could have, but he didn’t. And he certainly didn’t survive Captain Honey cutting his head off.”
“That is good news,” said Skulks, much relieved. He continued, “How is Captain Honey? I hope she’s not too upset that my new clothes are torn.”
Thinking him to be rambling, Heathen Spout patted Skulks maternally on the head. “She was here earlier, but has had to return to her duties.” Noticing that Skulks was disappointed at this news, she suggested, “Perhaps you need some more rest, Tan.”
She watched him for a further ten minutes as he ate a loaf of bread and two cakes. He fell back into a slumber.
Heathen Spout left the Wielder to his sleep and made her way to her own modest and well-kept house, reflecting on the last few days. In spite of the destruction, only seven wizards had been killed on day two of the Convention and day three had gone by without major incident, though many had complained that the auditorium was a little chilly with one of the walls missing. As they’d packed their bags to leave, the wizards were abuzz with the excitement of it all. There was even talk of the Convention coming back to Hardened next year, though Spout hadn’t bothered to tell Skulks that. There was something about it in one of the to-do trays in his new office. She was sure he’d come across it eventually.
