Connor pulled back a little as he considered her words. After a moment he said, “Think you that your father would deem a Saxon worthy of such a post?”
“Not only worthy, but entirely the best-suited candidate. As I’ve tried to tell you, my father’s a broadminded man.”
Connor smiled down at her. “Will he be as broadminded when he discovers that that same Saxon intends to marry his daughter?”
Ellen forced herself to refrain from giving the whoop of joy his words inspired. Instead she said casually, “He will, if the daughter is in favor of the idea.”
His full lips quirked in the sensual way that always seemed to make her insides begin to melt. “And is the daughter in favor of the idea?” he asked.
“Mayhap,” she replied, letting her eyelashes flutter teasingly. “Though she might take some time to consider the offer.”
With a low growl, Connor lifted her in his arms and rolled over on the grass so that she rested on top of him, their bodies intimately pressed together.
“Princess,” he said in a low voice. “You’d better start considering, because I intend to make love to you until you agree.”
Ellen’s eyes closed as his hands began a slow exploration of her backside. “It might take me awhile,” she said, the words coming between breaths.
“Take your time, milady. The wood faeries have promised to keep you here as long as necessary.”
She opened her eyes and looked into his intense blue gaze before offering him her lips. The wind sighed through the trees around them, and in the rustle of leaves she was quite sure she could hear the wood faeries’ silvery laughs.
