Witchy Woes Book 1: Tamara

"She's an excellent teacher.” Dante took her hand in his again.
He was always touching her, letting her know she wasn't alone, and that he cared. Sometimes she wanted to cry at the sheer intensity of his love, and other times she wanted to shout from the top of the world that he was hers.
"Yeah, well. We all need to be on guard. We already know those black witches are after us because we helped Camryn. Until we are assured they can't harm us anymore, I don't want anyone taking unnecessary risks or practicing magic alone."
As they each promised Sandra that they'd follow her suggestions, Tamara's thoughts went back to that night on the beach when the spell went awry. Even though she couldn't prove it, sometimes she wondered if maybe the magical flame had burned away her cancer. If so, did that mean the others would soon benefit from Camryn's misfortune? It was odd that the healthier she'd become, the sicker Camryn had become. It was almost as if Camryn had taken on not only Tamara's bad health, but many others as well.
It was hard to guess what would happen next. Would one of the girls become more beautiful, or come into money, or land a fabulous job? With a sigh, she leaned back against Dante and watched her friends.
Not only was it too soon to mention her theory, but she wasn't even sure she was right. It might have been her prayers and offerings to the Goddess. With a smile she remembered how Dante had helped her give thanks to the Goddess under the last full moon. After releasing all that energy, she'd felt the warmth and approval from the Goddess, and knew her thanks had been received. Perhaps soon they would be blessed. They certainly did it often enough.
If only her Sight would show her what was in store for her sisters. Sandra was so worried about everyone else she couldn't be taking care of herself. She'd mentioned how close she was to losing her apartment and that she might leave. What will we do without her? We can't lose her. She just can't leave us. Everything has to work out. It just has to.
Dante's arms tightened around her, and Tamara realized how tense she'd become. She placed her hands on his and squeezed lightly. He understood her concerns and felt it, too. He was her soulmate, after all.
The rest of her coven, Macy, Allison, and Candace looked worse for the wear. The stress of looking for a new job must be keeping Candace up at night. It looked as if she'd applied a lot of make up to cover up the bags, but it didn't work. The bakery owner must work her harder than they'd thought.
Allison kept looking around the group as if she was nervous. She fidgeted with her hair and skirt. Something was bothering her. If only she'd confide in one of them.
With a sigh, Tamara looked at Macy. A strong surge in the strength of her power was undeniable now. They'd witnessed it at the last circle, and even now, as she sat there trying to look normal, the power filled her. Such strong magic for one so young. And even Sandra wasn't able to assist her in reining it in.
"Remember, ladies, and gentleman,” Sandra smiled at Dante, “we need to stay strong. What ever is coming won't be pleasant. It could be worse than what we've experienced, or not. Maybe those witches will realize Camryn isn't going back and they have no power over her any longer. I'm sure they'll bind her and maybe try to bind all of us. We all need to remain on guard. I'm not seeing anything in the future, but I don't need the Sight to know it won't be a walk in the park. We must all be vigilant and look out for each other."
Dante's arms tightened around her even more. No matter what happened in the future, she wouldn't change a thing. If it weren't for the burns she'd have never met Dante, or cured her cancer. She'd be planning for her funeral. Maybe it did take something bad to make a person appreciate something good. Then again, maybe it was just her time. And his.
