Anger Management for Alphas

So his children would not be pups, and neither would they be squabs. They'd be both, or maybe something in the middle. Landon didn't care, and neither did Angel, as long as they were happy and healthy.

The thought filled him with an unbridled joy that chased away the lingering apprehension inside Landon. Angel must have sensed it, because he bounced on his soles, grinning at he grabbed Landon's arms. "Now come on. I told you I had to show you something."

Landon couldn't help a leer as he admired Angel's very naked body. His mate was just as beautiful now as the first time they'd met, perhaps even more so. The tiny, barely noticeable swell of his abdomen made pride surge inside Landon—along with a hefty dose of possessiveness and arousal.

Angel tsked. "Stop that. You're distracting me and this is important. Now come along."

"Yes, dear," Landon replied placidly. He followed his mate as Angel made his way out of the clearing and deeper into the forest.

If he wanted to be perfectly honest, Landon wasn't paying much attention. He was distracted by the sight of his mate's pert ass swaying in front of him—so much so that he didn't spot the small building until he almost ran into the door.

It was a small cabin, built out of light-colored wood. Tiny, it would have looked more like a shed if not for the wide windows and the elegant curves of the wood carvings. "This is going to be our nest," Angel said, his voice trembling a little. "Do you like it?"

Landon looked around in shock and more than a little awe. He heard the vague uncertainty in his mate's tone and felt the slight discomfort echoing through their bond, but he couldn't quite come up with an answer just yet.

  "Landon?" Angel prodded. "Say something."

Landon cleared his throat and managed to gather his wits. "How did you do all this without telling me?"

"My mother helped," Angel answered. "I wanted it to be a surprise, so I kept it from our bond. You don't mind, do you?"

"Not at all. I was just shocked."

Angel bit his lower lip, fidgeting in a display of nervousness that only echoed a very small part of the anxiety he actually felt. "I know that your people are important to you, Landon. I know that for werewolves, it's important to have pups grow within the pack. But... I just..."

Landon wrapped his arms around his mate's waist and set his hands on Angel's abdomen. "You don't have to apologize for how you feel, Angel. I understand that you're not a werewolf, and I wouldn't expect you to do anything you're not comfortable with."

Angel turned in his embrace and looked up at him. The emotions coming through their bond settled a little, but Landon still caressed his mate's hair, assuring Angel everything was okay. "I was just worried since I went ahead and did all this without telling you," Angel finally explained. "It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now..."

Landon kissed his mate's temple, loving Angel more than ever. "I admit that I don't always understand your instincts as well as I should. But I am trying, and we'll do things just the way you want them. I am allowed in the nest, right?"

"Of course." Angel scoffed. "I did say it's ours. Besides, it's not quite done yet. I still have some personal touches to add—and so do you." His voice grew softer, almost like a song. "I want this to be our haven, Landon, just for us, for our family."

With that, Angel pushed the door open. Hand in hand, they walked into the nest. Landon didn't know what he had expected, but it definitely wasn't a room full of scattered pillows. He couldn't help a small laugh, and Angel elbowed him in the stomach. "It's a nest, remember? We need soft things for when the children are born."

Landon would have replied, but then, he noticed something he hadn't originally seen. The pillows weren't actually the only element making up the nest. In fact, Landon caught sight of other types of objects, ones he instantly recognized. He leaned over and dug through the mass of fluff to retrieve one of his oldest shirts, which he'd thought lost in the wash. Arching his brow, he gave his mate an amused look.

"Call it your contribution to the nest," Angel said, "at least in its preliminary stages." He leaned against Landon's chest and smiled. "It makes me feel so safe, to be enveloped in your scent, and I think it helps the children too."

Landon held Angel close and buried his face in his mate's hair. For a few moments, they just stood there, enjoying the genuine contentment that pulsed through their connection. Eventually, Landon guided Angel to lie down in the center of the nest and curled against him.

It was really a glorified pillow fort, in a small, modest cabin in the woods, but like Angel had said, it was a haven just for them, and for their children. As they sat there and made plans to expand the nest, Landon couldn't help but think that if there was one thing humans had done right, it was anger management classes.

  About the Author

Anya Byrne is first and foremost a longtime fan of erotic romance. Starting to write her own stories was a natural progression of her devotion for the genre. Years after she put pen to paper in that very first book, she is just as enthusiastic and, let’s face it, somewhat obsessive about erotic romance and all that it entails. She is steadfast in the belief that there’s nothing quite as hot as an amazing hero—except more amazing heroes engaged in heroic hot lovin’, and has branched out into the field of self-publishing to convince even more readers of this fact. Hopefully, she will succeed.
