  The ladies were amazingly patient about that as well, as I made my plans to conquer the known world on Daphne’s behalf, and on behalf of every other sorceress. It had taken a few discreet conversations with Matthew and Melinda to finish putting it together.

  It wouldn’t be a quick thing, to do it right, I was figuring on a little over eight years before things were complete that way. Which is why I was so obsessed about island wards, I didn’t want the enemy recapturing old ground.

  But the plan was still missing a few final touches. One major thing, was elves. Without them we would have most likely lost the island, and I didn’t doubt we’d need them again, or at least, a few of them to help with the diviners. As far as we knew, there were three diviners left, besides me that is.

  As far as we knew, because for all I know there had been two diviners in the attacking fleet, and we’d taken one out in the initial barrage. I doubted it, but there was no way to know. I couldn’t check the web, or turn on CNN for a report. That… was really annoying actually, news travelled very slowly on this world. Eventually we’d learn the truth from spies, but the information came slowly in a roundabout fashion, so it could be a while.

  Regardless, our chances of success went way down without the elves to help me face older and more experienced diviners. I’d have to play to my strengths, which meant my more modern view on warfare, and I’d have to come up with new elemental attacks, since I was fairly sure the pyroclastic wave attack was played out. Many of the ships had escaped to spread that information.

  I was also trying to work automatic defenses into the grid wards I’d built for the island. So far, all I’d been able to do was denial of access to the elements inside the warded area, much like the ship wards worked. That wouldn’t work against a diviner, but it would work against everyone else. All else failing, I’d have to depend on that. It wasn’t a shabby defense, anyone approaching the island could be stopped by one sorcerer or sorceress on watch, if the enemy had no access to the elements.

  I’d made a good start on this world, and I hoped that the goddess was proud of me. We’d saved a good number of sorceresses, and I’d learned some history, geography, and had a plan to free all sorceresses and destroy the grip that the king of Iziral had on all the islands. All I had to do was convince the council, the elves, my mates, and most of all princess Daphne, that it was a good plan.

  It wouldn’t be easy, but then I was trying to change the world. Of course it wouldn’t be easy, and I couldn’t do it alone.

  I’d also been rewarded, with two amazing mates, and the potential for a third. I chose to believe it was the goddess that led me to them, and Amara.

  I had to believe she would come back, if not shortly, then I’d have to go looking.
