Return to Passion

The press was going crazy, having the real name of the elusive author who’d been able to fool them for so long. Two different producers had already approached Camille with requests for meetings about turning her books into movie scripts. She’d graciously deferred them to Anna who was on cloud nine with the new fame she’d garnered as Reese Elaine’s agent.
Another pleasant surprise for Remi was the reaction of the town. They embraced Camille with open arms. Camille reveled in the drama-free night and he rejoiced in her happiness.
It wasn’t just Camille’s happiness Remington celebrated. He had his own joy to be thankful for. He’d not known how incomplete his life had been in Camille’s absence. He had not known the meaning of true satisfaction and contentment until Camille had returned to him.
Would they have issues to work through because of their different choices and different paths in life thus far? Yes. They’d have plenty to overcome in that regard, but they had each other and that was more than they’d ever anticipated for themselves not long ago.
“Is tonight everything you imagined it would be?” Remington asked Camille as he led her across the floor when the final song of the evening started playing just for them. Remi couldn’t be prouder of this beautiful woman before him, who held his heart. She made him want to do anything and everything to make sure a smile stayed etched into her features.
Beaming with delight, Camille responded. “Better than I imagined.” She sighed contentedly and Remi was happy he was part of the reason she was able to feel so good. “Who’d have thought we’d ever be here in this moment?”
“Haven’t you heard?” Remington asked, unable to restrain himself from kissing Camille when she wore such a contented smile. “I never gave up on you. Your return to me was always the plan, it just took you a lot longer to realize you couldn’t stay away.”
Camille’s eyes watered and she shook her head as a little chuckle fell from her lips. She then laid her head on his chest and he could tell she was trying to hold back her emotions. Lifting her chin, he stared into her glossy eyes for a brief moment and then kissed her again. He didn’t need her to confirm or deny his statement. Her reaction was enough.
Epilogue
Camille couldn’t believe that a simple visit to care for her father had turned into such a life-changing return to her hometown. She still thought about that time over a year and half ago when she’d finally decided to stop sacrificing her happiness and stop running. She remembered choosing, after much agonizing, to be a little selfish and take everything she wanted, consequences be damned.
And now look what she had to show for her courage. She was blessed and loved more than she ever could have expected being Mrs. Camille Krane.
Though, in addition to her new status as a wife, she was able to successfully come out from under her pseudonym and put a face to the name many readers loved so much. The success she’d attained after her coming-out party had been overwhelming, humbling and more than she could have ever fathomed.
Never did Camille think she would be able to have such success and happiness while getting everything she’d dreamed of having since she was a teenager. The reality was she had that and so much more.
Camille smiled because it was always satisfying when she thought about the decision she’d made as a teen to marry Remington. Over a decade later they’d finally fulfilled the promise they’d made to be together and she couldn’t be happier with her personal and professional life.
Her husband wasn’t doing so bad for himself, either. With the land deal he’d successfully negotiated over a year ago, Krane Gourmet Snack Foods was no longer second best. They’d surpassed their competitors with the opening of the new frozen foods division and were currently weighing the benefits of overseas headquarters and expansion.
It was just too bad her husband wasn’t going to be working on that firsthand. Remington worked as an integral part of the decision-making, but his day-to-day duties with Krane Foods were minimal. He’d put the company’s daily operations into the capable hands of his vice president.
Camille liked to think that these days her husband had much more important matters to handle, like overseeing the city that had become just as prosperous as the company he’d previously led.
“Have everything you need?” Remington asked after placing a heaping bowl of vanilla ice cream in Camille’s hand and proceeding to rub her tired, swollen feet.
Camille nodded. She had everything she needed and wanted, but she still giggled each time she took in her surroundings. A year and a half after nearly walking away from Remington again, Camille was sitting on her large bed at the mayor’s estate, rubbing a large belly filled with her twin son and daughter. She smiled at the changes and said a silent prayer of thanks to God for showing her the right path and opening her eyes to what and who she needed in her life.
The gorgeous man before her, who was mayor of their loving little town, smiled as well, as if he knew her thoughts. The look quickly morphed into something more and...
The ice cream could wait.
