Rain splattered on the huge window of their bedroom. The balcony glistened as shallow puddles formed on the pale tiles Dane had laid. Tree branches swayed beyond as the wind gusted. He sat beside Zachary as they drank coffee and snuggled together, their legs beneath the quilt. Winter was on its way. Dane had loads of work. Relocating had made no difference to the business he and Emmet ran. Zachary had picked up some landscape design work for the spring, but they planned to spend winter celebrating being together and in love. Dane put his coffee cup down on the bedside table. He took Zachary’s cup from his hand. Zachary gave him a puzzled look, but relinquished the cup. Dane placed it next to his own cup. He turned to Zachary.
“Do you ever think about marriage?”
A slow smile crept onto Zachary’s face. “Why, Dane?”
Dane ran his hand gently up and down Zachary’s arm and across his shoulder. “I’d like to be married. I love you and it would mean a lot to me to have that, to be able to say this is my husband and you could say the same.”
Zachary slid his hands around Dane’s head and kissed him. “Are you asking me to marry you?” He kissed Dane again, lingering with kiss after kiss.
Dane’s whole body felt melted by the tenderness in Zachary’s kisses. He whispered, “Yes, babe.”
Zachary brushed his lips on Dane’s mouth. “I’d love to.”
