He stayed very still as she willed her resistant muscles to relax. She could feel his heart thundering against her body as he panted and waited patiently for her to get control of herself. As she began to relax, he withdrew in short increments and rolled his hips forward to push slowly in. Back out and slowly back in. Again and again, he kept the motion steady until she felt him slide all the way inside. The immediate pleasure from his hard flesh grazing against sensitive nerves almost sent her over the edge. She was shocked at how much pleasure she was receiving from just a slight movement.

“That’s it, sweetness. I feel you surrounding me. Gods! You feel so wonderful. Yes. Move your hips again. So good, so good.”

Tana melted around him and she knew he must have felt it because his strokes began to increase the more she rolled her hips and took him completely inside. Knowing what he needed, Tana gripped his hair and pulled. His garbled cry ramped her higher and she bucked as if to throw him off. His growls of approval sent tingles across her clit. She’d unleashed his beast and it reflected in his words.

“Touch yourself as I fuck you, Tana. Reach down and rub that pretty clit for me. I want to feel your knuckles bumping up against my belly. Shoving her hand between them, she began a fast stroke across her distended bud. Her legs trembled from the pleasure overload. Through narrowed lids, she watched him lift slightly and glance down. The sight of their joining pushed him over another edge. His voice was gravelly and strained.

“Yes, that’s it. Rub harder. Look what you’re doing to me. I’m so hard for you. I could fuck you forever.”

Faster and faster he moved, and she had no trouble keeping up the pace. The tingles began again along her flesh and she didn’t fight it this time. She felt something blanket her skin and push through. Her back arched at the intense pleasure as it penetrated muscle and bone.

“This is it, Tana. Let me inside. Open your mind. I want to be a part of you and you to me.”

Tana blanked her mind and fell into the abyss. She was feeling him inside her now. Swirling balls of color swept through her mind, danced, weaved into tight bands, and merged. She felt his hard flesh pushing against the moist walls as if she were him. His balls were lifting tighter with each stroke and drove excruciating pleasure through her groin.

She willed her eyes to open as soft tendrils caressed her arms and thighs. The yellow tree’s branches were stretched long and running against their sweat-slicked skin. Colored energy danced and swirled in the air around them. Acceptance, love, hope, and awe inundated her emotions. They weren’t just hers. The planet was welcoming her, giving her its love and approval in great pushes of energy. She burst into tears at the intensity of the feelings. She cried harder as Lucien’s croaked words drifted to her ears.

“I love you. I love you.”

Wrapping her arms around his neck, she buried her head against his shoulder and bit down when their shared orgasm ripped through them both. His hot seed bathed her insides and his cock kicked with each excruciating surge. His arms tightened into strong bands and crushed her to his body.

“Yes, my love. Mark me. I’m yours…I’m yours.”

Again and again, shared spasms of pleasure passed between them until they were left panting for breath. Tana knew what was about to happen and she hoped she could control her body enough to help him. All too soon, it began.

Lucien grunted and tried to rise up on his arms. They wobbled and shook as he stared at her through glassy eyes.

  “Help me. I need…push me…over.”

Tana shoved hard against his chest and rolled with him as he slipped from her body. He slammed hard against the ground then immediately curled into a ball of quivering, rigid flesh. She crawled over to the stump and grabbed the container leaning against the side. Opening the top, she gulped down some of the water and immediately turned back to him. Sluggish, she was still able to get him to prop himself on her lap as she sprinkled water into his mouth and caressed his cheek. He was mumbling incoherently as she wiped his brow with her T-shirt and massaged his flesh. No wonder he feared this happening on Glaxon 8. He was helpless as a baby.

What felt like hours passed as she cradled him to her chest and cooed sweetly to him. She lifted the mating necklace several times to stare in awe at the light blue glow emanating from the surface of the tooth. It boggled her mind how this mineral was so intricately connected to the energy of the Insedi. Just amazing.

She remembered Kallon speaking reverently of the pride an Insedi male had when displaying the tooth to the populace. It was equivalent to a wedding ring for them both. She was married to him now and she couldn’t even comprehend the amount of love that suffused her body as she stared into his sleeping face. Tana made a promise to herself at this exact moment of recognition that she would never let this beautiful, fierce, and loving male down as long as she held breath in her lungs. She would be an empress he could be proud of.

Eventually, Lucien appeared to regain some of his strength and gathered her into his arms. He curled into a fetal position with her tucked snugly in the warm cocoon of his body. She listened to his breathing even out before she dared close her eyes. For several long moments she enjoyed the images flashing through his mind.

It had been easy to slip in while Insedivertus stabilized his energy and matched hers to his. He was dreaming of the moment he’d seen the Dar Kan carrying her down the hallway. She giggled that he’d found her ass that delicious. She’d have to remember that. She bit her lip at his perception of her fighting the blue bastard that ended with her slicing its throat. He’d thought that he’d failed her. It took several minutes for her heart to quit racing from the amount of adrenaline he’d dumped just trying to get to her in time. She now knew that the Dar Kan chasing her from the clearing had died a horrible death at his hand. It had been moments from snatching her hair when he turned the tables and crushed its face. Damn, he was a total badass.

The shared memory of the waterfall had her caressing his arm from the fear he’d experienced when he couldn’t find her at the camp. Everything that traipsed through his mind allowed her to know the gradual build of his love for her. She now understood why he would sacrifice his happiness to assure her own. The pain he’d felt as he stood by the Athenian and made her go away was excruciating. She leaned forward and kissed his arm. Poor baby.

She thought back to the day she’d told him that she was trying to figure out why she’d been unfortunate enough to get snatched by the blue bastards. It hadn’t been a tragedy. It’d been the best thing that had ever happened, and she’d relive it through a thousand lives as long as she ended up right where she lay right now. She was Insedi.

Tana opened her mind wide and called out to Maxim. She felt his surprise then delight that she’d done so.

My empress. You’ve just made me the happiest male on this planet to be the first that you’ve called. I am at your command.

Right now, you’re my favorite warrior for bringing me out here. It’s time to come for us. I need to get my emperor home.

  On my way.

She jumped when she heard Lucien’s groggy voice behind her. “I’m impressed. You caught on to that very quickly. I knew you were smart, but you still surprise me. I like that.” Chuckling, she rolled in his arms and faced him.

“Good. You’re awake. I thought I’d have to walk around the pond, get your clothes, and then dress you. I’m exhausted, so I wasn’t looking forward to that.”

He smiled and ran his hand across her hair. “Well, I’ll show you that all of your effort would have been wasted when you could have done this.” He disappeared right out of her arms.

Gasping, she rose up and looked around. Damn. He’d done what she’d seen all the warriors do in the clearing. Before she could call out to him, he reappeared by her side with his clothes bundled under his arm.

“Now, that is way too cool, mister. So, I’ll be able to do that?”

“Yes. We can play around with it later. Let’s get dressed before Maxim gets here
.”

Scrambling to their feet, they laughed as they pulled on their clothes and stumbled about like new born fillies. They snacked on the pineapples while they waited for Maxim’s arrival. Lucien had just tied the blanket around the items he’d brought when the transport arrived. Hand in hand, they walked to the vehicle and returned Maxim’s huge grin.

“I’m glad to see this all worked out for the best. Nice necklace there, Emperor.”

“Thanks, Maxim. Now take us back and make sure to skirt the Great Plains. I don’t think Tana has seen that side of Urbis yet.”

Maxim smiled and turned back to the console. “No problem. I was waiting patiently for her to see it, too.”

Tana enjoyed the quietness of the ride and Lucien’s warm body against hers. She felt her eyelids drooping and jolted when he called her name.

“Sweetness. We’re here. Look out the window. It’s a beautiful sight.”

Stretching the kinks out, Tana yawned and leaned close to the window. Gasping, she scrambled over Lucien’s lap and plastered her face to the window.

“Oh, my god! Horses. There has to be at least thirty of them. Where…how did you?” She swiveled her head to Maxim. “You were so dirty. Did you bring them here?”

“Yup. At the direct order of your mate. As soon as you get an eyeful of those beautiful things, I’m dropping you off at the palace and will pass out for a few days. Do you have any idea how hard it is to coax one of those things through a dark passage, much less convince them to enter the vortex? They almost killed me until I figured out a blindfold works wonders.”

Tana’s laughter mixed with Lucien’s and she immediately turned to him. “Lucien, this is unbelievable. Thank you.” She crawled into his lap and gave him the best thank-you kiss she could conjure. It appeared to work. When she pulled back, his eyes were narrowed and she could feel his cock growing under her right butt cheek.

He smiled, and that gorgeous dimple dented his cheek. “Hurry, Maxim. My mate wants to thank me properly. We can visit the plains later.”

Maxim’s relieved sigh could be heard all the way in the back. “Good. Home it is then.”

Tana nodded and placed a gentle kiss on her mate’s soft lips. “Yes. Home.”

  * * * *

Kallon scrambled down the corridor with a wide grin splitting his face after watching Maxim fly away in the transport. When their new empress had mind-called him, Maxim had acted like he’d won the Earth lottery. Things were about to change and all for the better, hopefully.

Feeling ecstatic that Tana had snagged her male, Kallon felt his luck could change just as quickly. Flinging the door to his room open, he grabbed the box he brought back from Earth and made quick work of cutting through the common room before he was spotted. Now that Maxim wasn’t snooping around the guest quarters, he might have a chance of catching Ulixes before he started heading to the dining room for lunch.

Kallon stopped dead in his tracks when he spotted Bellator standing in the hallway with Ulixes. It appeared he caught him just as he was leaving his room. Backing around the corner, Kallon tried to control his runaway heart. He knew he should leave, but couldn’t bear to move from the spot. He strained to hear their conversation and silently begged that if he were caught Ulixes wouldn’t think him a stalker.

“Good. I’ll join you. I was about to go there myself. Wait, if you don’t mind, may I ask you a question, Ulixes?”

“I guess it depends on what you ask. Go ahead. If I don’t like what you’re saying, I can always decline to answer.”

Kallon loved to hear that deep voice. The cadence and the timbre always sent chills running up his spine. He was such a sap.

Bellator chuckled. “See, this is exactly why I’m here. You never blurt out the first thing on your mind, and when you do speak, it always includes some prepared thought. I need someone like you in my court, Ulixes. Would you consider coming home and being my second-in-command? I trust you. What you did when Basilius revealed his true self took tremendous courage. I need this.”

Kallon felt his stomach drop. His greatest fear since Bellator stepped foot on Insedivertus was playing out at this very moment. He had to remind himself to breathe. Many seconds ticked by without a response and he almost peeked around the corner to see if they’d stepped into Ulixes’s room to continue the conversation. He let loose a soft sigh when his beloved’s voice drifted down the corridor.

  “I don’t think that’s wise. I’ve renounced my citizenship. I’m Insedi now.”

Kallon fist-pumped the air and restrained the whoop of happiness threatening to escape from his throat.

“It matters not. Come with me for just a little while and help me through the transition. I’ll not demand a decision from you on the permanency. Just long enough to get my feet beneath me. You know the court well. I crave your advice and wisdom. I see the hesitation in your eyes. Is there something here that keeps you locked to this planet, besides your loyalty to the emperor?”

Kallon scooted close to the edge of the wall and strained to catch the rumbling response.

“No. There’s nothing here that would keep me. Let me think upon this. I’ll let you know tomorrow.”

“Good. I can settle for a consideration. Thank you. Now, let’s get to our meal.”

Kallon slumped against the wall and fought the tears burning the back of his lids. He looked down to the gift of a black chess case with the initials of UMD engraved into the fine leather. He’d known that Ulixes carried his chess pieces in a simple wooden box. The marble figures were precious to him, yet he’d never had a decent case to cradle them. Kallon had thought to rectify that tragedy quickly.

The script blurred before his eyes and jolted him to reality. The sound of heavy boots seconds from turning the corner had him misting to the intersecting hallway to make his escape. He was surprised he’d been able with the state of his emotions in such an upheaval.

Kallon slid to the floor and let the darkness of the corridor swallow him up. If Ulixes returned with Bellator, he may never come back. The king was persuasive and cunning. He knew what a find he had in Ulixes and wouldn’t give it up easily. The male was brilliant.

Burying his face against his knees, Kallon hoped that Ulixes made the right choice and realized that there was indeed something here to stay for—him.
