“Ah, not so, Watson,” said he, waving away any praise. “Merely reason and observation, the essential tools of any detective.”
“Well, I believe I’m going to turn in,” I said, as I finished my brandy, “it’s been quite the adventure.”
“Very good, Watson. I think I shall stay up awhile,” he replied, turning back to the window.
“Right you are, Holmes. Good night.”
“Good night, Watson,” he said. His voice grew absent as the fire dwindled and the shadows deepened around him, and Sherlock Holmes looked out into the London night somewhere in the direction of the Thames and Blackfriars Bridge.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Nick Kyme is an author and editor. He has written several novels and short stories set in the worlds of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 for the Black Library, one of which, The Primarchs for the Horus Heresy series, was a New York Times bestseller. His most notable works include the popular Tome of Fire trilogy, and The Fall of Damnos. He was a contributor to Titan’s Encounters of Sherlock Holmes in 2013.
