Jackaleena stood away from both of them.
“Mr. Alfie and Mrs. Bea. Jesus Man send me. I have a big purpose. My purpose is you, Mr. Alfie,” as she grabbed his hand. “Mrs Bea, my purpose is you,” as she grabbed her hand. “Your baby died long time ago and is with Jesus Man. If she could come back, she may not want to, I think. I think my father and mother are dead. I hope they are with Jesus Man. If they are and could come back, I think they not come back.
“I think we live today and not think too much about yesterday. Let us walk to the car and let us go home. Together.”
CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
Judge Parker looked worn out.
“That is the most incredulous and intriguing story I have ever heard in my life, Ms. Carter,” he said. “The very fact that you are an attorney working in my court is unfathomable to me after what you have told me. Your courage and determination are somewhat breathtaking and the most commendable thing I have ever heard of in my lifetime about any human being. But you have told me nothing about how you ascertained your schooling and your law degree, the bar exam and the rest. That journey, I am sure, was full of potholes and hurdles but just look at you. I mean just look at you. I am honored to be working with you to say the least.”
Jackie looked at him closely. “Judge, it has been a long day. We have a very busy day tomorrow. Yes, it was a remarkable journey and it continues today. But that is another story for another day.”

BJ Mayo was born in an oil field town in Texas. He spent the first few years of his life living in a company field camp twenty-five miles from the closest town. His career in the energy industry took him to various points in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Louisiana, Bangladesh, Australia, and Angola West Africa.
He and his wife were high school sweethearts and have been married for forty-six years with two grown children. They live on a working farm near San Angelo, Texas.
