I look down into my paper bag at the four dead ravens. Such beautiful birds. Did you know that if you see a raven when someone dies, it means they’re on their way to heaven? Not my beauties, though. I capture and kill ravens. None of mine will make it to the promised land.
It’s good to see Carlos again. What a stroke of luck that he’s in the same town as Kade Cantrill. Two birds, one stone. I chuckle to myself and begin to walk up Main Street. Such a friendly town, everyone smiles and nods as you pass them, but no one truly sees me, not until I want them to.
Tourmaline.
Such a pretty name.
The stone to which the town is named after means it’s soothing. I smile to myself. By the time I’m done with them, soothing is the last thing it will feel like.
