“Me too. Especially when I’m hungry. But I usually just order a meat lovers.”

“A man after my own heart.” I pat his shoulder then walk past him to get to the sofa.

Nathan’s whole body tenses under my grip, and I realize I’m probably being a little too forward by touching him. Based on the way I’ve seen him with his brother, he probably doesn’t appreciate strange men reaching out to him for no reason.

“Sorry about that,” I say quietly.

He shakes his head quickly. “No, it’s fine. Sorry. Some instincts are hard to kick.” He looks around the house and shudders. “This house just brings back a lot of bad memories.”

I meet his gaze and nod. “I figured.”

Nathan blows out a slow exhale and turns toward the staircase. “Let me make sure Mom is still asleep, and I’ll be right back. Make yourself comfortable.”

While Nathan is upstairs, I call my favorite pizzeria and place my usual order. Large meat lovers with a side of cheese bread.

A few minutes later, Nathan is back and standing in front of me. “We don’t have much to drink, but there’s a case of water in the pantry and a couple cans of Coke. Joseph has pretty much cleared out everything else.”

“A Coke sounds great.” I slip my phone into my pocket. “And I’ve got drinks at my house, so I can go grab more when the pizza gets here.”

“Oh, let me get you some money for that.” Nathan pats his back pocket then pulls out his wallet.

“Don’t worry about it. I had a coupon, so it wasn’t much.” That’s a lie, but it’s the kind of lie I don’t feel guilty telling.

Nathan doesn’t argue before running to the kitchen for drinks. He comes back a few seconds later with two cans of Coke in his hands. He hands me one before sitting on the other end of the couch. “Thanks for stopping by. This house has ghosts, you know?”

“I think I do.” I crack open the can and take a drink. “But if you want to talk, I’m a good listener.”

Nathan gives me a half smile then looks out the front window. “You don’t want to hear my sob story. Hey, where’s your boyfriend? Does he want to come over too?”

I furrow an eyebrow in his direction. “I don’t have a boyfriend.”

“Oh, sorry. I just assumed that guy at your house…”

It takes me a minute to figure out what he means. “This morning? That’s my cousin Ollie. He needed to pick up something.”

“Oh.” Nathan takes another drink from his can, but it’s more like a gulp.

I watch Nathan’s eyes as he tries to focus on the window. But every few seconds, they flit toward me. He knows I’m watching him, but he can’t seem to hold eye contact.

I’m curious why. “What about you? Is there someone waiting for you at home?”

Nathan’s shoulders relax, and he finally shifts his weight so he’s facing me. “No, no one. I didn’t even tell my friends I was leaving town. I just felt like I needed to come back.”

“Really? Could you sense that your mother was sick?”

“Oh, no, nothing like that. I came to confront my brother. I’ve been carrying around a lot of anger and resentment…and fear toward him. It seemed like the right time to face him, so I can move forward in my life.”

I move my arm along the back of the sofa, so my hand is just inches away from his shoulder, but I don’t go the extra distance it would require to actually touch him. “That’s very brave. I’m sure this must be a shock for you.”

Nathan’s breath hitches and a soft sob escapes. “She’s not going to make it, is she?”

I lean forward and gently grab his forearm with my fingertips. “I don’t know, Nathan. But she’s fighting. She fought this once before, she can do it again.”

The weight of his emotion seems to get the better of him, and Nathan folds forward, sobbing into his palms.

I can’t just sit back and watch him while he’s in so much pain. Closing the distance between us, I wrap my arms around his thin frame and hold him against my chest as he cries.

“I’m sorry, Dodge. This isn’t your problem.”

Rubbing circles on his back, I gently sway him in my arms. “It’s okay, Nathan. You can let it out. You’ll feel better once you do.”

Nathan allows himself a moment of emotion before pulling himself together. He sighs heavily against my chest but doesn’t pull away. “Thank you, Dodge. I can’t remember the last time somebody held me like this.”

My heart breaks at his words, and my arms involuntarily tighten around him. When that’s still not close enough, I pull him onto my lap. “I’ve got you. You’re going to be okay now. Whatever happened in the past, and whatever happens in the future, you’re okay now.”

Nathan has fistfuls of my shirt wadded up in his hands as he slowly lifts his head, brushing his cheek against my jaw. He’s so close I can smell his shampoo and his unique scent. A little woodsy and a little minty.

I inhale deeply, committing the delicious aroma to memory in case I’m never this close to him again. As his eyes meet mine, he doesn’t back away. His soft breaths blow into my mouth, and I lean into him before I can stop myself.

It’s just a brush of my lips against his, but the touch seems to ignite something within Nathan as he shifts his body weight and straddles my lap. He still has my shirt in his grip, and he uses it to pull himself toward me again, this time pressing his lips to mine.

This probably isn’t appropriate considering the situation he’s in, but Nathan is in pain and he needs comfort. I can’t make his mom better or exorcise the demons of his past, but I can give him this right now.

My lips part and my tongue glides across his mouth before slipping inside.

Nathan’s hands finally release my shirt before snaking up around my neck and holding my head in place while his lips dance with mine.

Our movements are awkward at first, choppy and desperate. But we quickly find a rhythm of nipping and licking and sucking that has my cock fully engorged within moments. When he feels it, Nathan moans and slides his ass along the length of my dick, grinding against me.

My hands hold his hips in place as I angle upward against him. “Fuck, this feels good.” I’m so hot right now, I could probably come just from rutting against him like a horny teenager.

If the sound of the doorbell didn’t interrupt us, I might have. But I’ll never hear the end of it from James if I ignore the door and his son reports back to him that I was making out on the couch instead of taking the pizza he made for me.

It’s hard, everything’s hard, but I pull back and look into Nathan’s eyes. “We should get the pizza.”

Nathan seems like he’s waking from a daze as he steps out of my lap and opens the front door.

I follow behind with my wallet to give Jimmy Jr. a tip.

The kid takes one look at Nathan and then back at me before he gives me a cheesy grin. “Enjoy your pizza, Dodge.”

Yeah, definitely not gonna hear the end of that.

As soon as the door closes, I hold up the pizza between Nathan and me. “Do you want to eat?”

He looks down at the box then back at me before he shakes his head.

I swallow the lump in my throat. “Are you sure this is what you want right now? You’re vulnerable and —"

  “I’m sure.”

I step forward and place my hand on his cheek before taking his mouth again. I don’t know how much time passes before we come up for air, but when we do, I look around the room and frown. “Should we go upstairs?”

Nathan’s eyes go wide with disgust. “No, not here. Can we go to your place?”

  “Definitely.”

Our appetites are gone as a new hunger sets in. With Nathan’s hand in mine, I drag him across the street then head straight up to my bedroom. We haven’t even made it to the bed before he’s on me again, his fingers clinging to my back, and his body tight like a wire about to reach its breaking point.

I lift him up by his thighs then lower him onto the middl
e of my bed. Once I have him where I want him, I stand up and pull my T-shirt over my head.

I hope this is what he really wants right now, because there’s no turning back.

  This omega’s ass is mine.

Holy shit, this is really happening. Dodge is unbuttoning his jeans, and all I can do is lie here and stare with my mouth hanging open. He’s so gorgeous. His wide muscles appear to be sculpted from stone, and his skin has a golden glow like he’s spent some time on the beach. His fingers hook underneath the waistband of his underwear, and he tugs them down just an inch before looking up at me. “Are you sure this is what you want?”

I should give him an excuse to stop, but I can’t. My tongue darts out and coats my chapped lips as I nod. “Yes.”

Dodge’s eyes darken as he yanks his clothes completely off.

I gasp when I see the size of his cock. It’s huge. Way bigger than Joseph was and definitely too big to fit inside me. I’m trying to find the words to tell him I can’t take him when he steps closer and releases the button on my jeans. All thoughts in my mind evaporate as I close my eyes and throw my head back, just focusing on his gentle fingertips as they glide across my belly before he tugs my jeans and boxers off me.

My heart feels like it’s about to pound right out of my chest when he finally pulls them down low enough that my cock is free. Dodge’s eyes roll upward as he lowers his face into my crotch, inhaling my scent and licking up my cock until he catches the drop forming at the tip. His fingertips slide from my thighs to my hips and underneath my shirt until he pushes it completely over my head. Once I’m as naked as he is, he hovers above me, just looking at my body.

“You’re perfect, Nathan.” He bends his elbows, lowering onto me like he’s doing a push-up until his body lands on mine.

I eagerly match his enthusiasm, wanting to touch him everywhere, so I do. My fingertips trace the valleys and ridges of his stomach and his back before tangling into his hair. I curl my fingers into a fist, taking his strands a little tighter. Dodge moans, shifting his hip so his cock is lined up with mine.

Holy shit, I’m gonna come already.

I whimper with need I’m not able to express verbally. Dodge understands what I’m asking for and wraps his wide palm around my cock then presses it against his hard dick. I can hardly breathe as he begins to stroke us together while thrusting against me.

It doesn’t take long for me to get to the edge of my control. “I’m going to come…”

“I want you to, Nathan. I’m right there with you,” Dodge whispers against my cheek.

I jut my chin in the air and bite my lower lip as a powerful orgasm rocks through me. Dodge continues stroking even as his body goes rigid, and he unloads his thick cream onto my chest. I can’t look away as he pours onto me, mixing his seed with mine.

Seconds tick by as we both revel in the endorphins shooting through our veins.

  “That was… I don’t even have words.”

“Yeah.” Dodge rests his weight on his knees and elbows but presses his body against me, smearing our come together on our chests and bellies.

His forehead nestles in the crook of my neck, and the sound of our heavy pants fills the room. I’m still holding on to the back of his head, but I loosen my grip, spreading out my fingers and lowering my hands to his firm back. “Was that okay for you…or do you need more?”

Dodge rolls his head toward me then lifts up so he’s looking me in the eye. “What do you mean by more?”

  “Well, I know you didn’t get to…”

A sexy grin spreads across his face. “Oh, I did. I thought you noticed the pound of jizz on your chest.”

Okay, now I just feel stupid. “I know you did that, but you didn’t get to…knot. Are you okay with that?”

The smile fades from Dodge’s face as he rolls off me and sits up. “Why would you ask that?”

“I just thought it wasn’t as satisfying if you didn’t knot. Isn’t that true?”

Dodge lies beside me and pulls me up onto his chest. “No, that’s not exactly true. But what we just did was amazing. Although, it’s true that knotting is also very amazing.” That sexy grin is back. “But that doesn’t mean my orgasm was unsatisfying. Quite the contrary, in fact.”

“Really?” I finally relax enough to smile back at him. “So, it was good?”

“It was a thousand times better than good, Nathan. And anyone who has ever told you otherwise is a fucking liar. You’re perfect.”

“Huh…” I don’t really know what to say to that, so I clear my throat and change the subject. “How about that pizza?”

Dodge just looks at me for a moment before chuckling. “That sounds great.”

Nathan and I are each on our second piece of pizza back at his mother’s house when Joseph pulls up in front. Nathan still hasn’t told me exactly what brought him here, but I know his relationship with his brother has always been strained. And based on the way he tenses whenever he’s around Joseph, there’s definitely bad blood between them.

Joseph walks right inside with a brown paper bag in his hand and looks between Nathan and me with an annoyed expression. “How’s she doing?”

Nathan takes a drink before answering. “She’s been asleep for most of the day and hasn’t really been hungry.”

Joseph nods. “I brought some broth. She can usually keep this down. I’ll be right back.”

Before we can say anything else, he jogs up the stairs to check on his mom.

“He’s more doting than I expected,” I say to Nathan. “Based on the way he usually screeches out of the driveway, I thought coming by was more of a burden to him.”

Nathan shrugs. “Maybe he really has changed. He was really…nice to me today. It was weird, and a little freaky.”

I can’t hear anything happening upstairs, but Joseph comes down a few minutes later with the bag still in his hand. “She wasn’t really in the mood to eat. Um…” He looks at me and then to his brother. “Will you be staying long?”

I look Joseph in the eye and smirk. “Probably.”

Joseph nods then turns toward the front door. “I’m gonna head out. My cell phone number is on that card I gave you, Nathan. Call if you need me.”

“Okay.” Nathan stands up and takes a step toward Joseph before hesitating. “Will you be back tomorrow?”

Joseph has his hand on the doorknob when he turns back. “Yeah. Have a good night.”

He leaves as suddenly as he arrived. “That was weird.”

Nathan chuckles. “Yeah, it really was.”

I lean back on the sofa and take another bite. “You probably already know this, but your brother’s always been a bit off.”

Nathan laughs and then takes a sip of Coke. “Yeah, I know. And he’s always been an asshole, which is why this newfound, caring demeanor is hard to trust.”

I’m not quite buying it either. But I don’t know one side of the story, much less both sides. When Nathan’s ready to share the details with me, I’ll be able to help in a more specific way. Until then, I’m just a friendly neighbor. Which means I probably need to get him to share sooner rather than later.

“So, Nathan, tell me about yourself. What do you do back at home?” I grab another slice of pizza, picking up a piece of sausage that falls from the tip and popping it into my mouth.

Nathan swallows the bite he’s just finished chewing then wipes his mouth. “I work at an Omega House.”

I perk up. “That sounds cool. Do you enjoy helping others?”

Nathan beams with more excitement than I’ve seen on him. “I really do. It wasn’t so long ago that I needed help, so being able to comfort others in a similar situation means a lot to me.” Nathan stops, glancing at me to gauge my reaction to his words.

I keep my features stoic, listening intently to any tidbit of information about this man’s life that he’s willing to share.

  Once he realizes
I’m not passing judgment, he continues. “Some of the omegas come to us in really bad shape. Being able to show them someone cares about them is really important. Most of them come from broken homes or a life of abuse. It can be heartbreaking, but there is a lot of joy in the work I do… Especially when the omegas finally realize they’re safe and there’s a life after their trauma.”

Even though Nathan’s talking about other omegas, the way his eyes become pained is proof that his story isn’t too far from theirs. And that makes me even more curious about exactly why he left home at such a young age.

“It sounds like rewarding work.” I slip my hand behind his neck and give him a gentle squeeze.

He inhales deeply and relaxes into my hand. “It is. The best part is that I get to drive the van most of the time. I love it.”

“Driving the van?” I’m not sure why anyone would take pleasure in driving, let alone carting people around from one place to another.

“Yeah. I didn’t think I’d ever get my license, but my friend Sean taught me how to drive.” Nathan laughs at a memory. “I used to scare the hell out of him when we practiced in the vacant lot behind an old supermarket. But he never gave up on me. And by the time I was ready to take the written exam, the driving test was a snap.” Nathan’s face is beaming with delight at his accomplishment.

I love seeing him smile like that. “That’s great. Have you been driving for a while?”

“Only for around a year, but I love it.”

His excitement about something so simplistic to most is a reminder that he hasn’t led an easy life. Whatever pain or suffering Nathan went through in the past needs to stay in the past. He deserves to find a happy future.

I place my plate onto the table and scoot closer to him. “Maybe I should let you chauffeur me around while you’re in town. I hate driving.”

Nathan’s eyes perk up. “Really? I’ve seen your car. It looks sweet.”

I chuckle, thinking of the unremarkable Mazda sitting in my driveway. “It’s just a car.”
