To find out more about how new media companies work, I visited Buzzfeed’s offices just off Oxford Circus. Although I named a character in the novel after him, I have to emphasise that Jim Waterson, politics editor of Buzzfeed News, is a highly skilled journalist who I’m sure has never posted a cat meme in his life. Thanks for your help, Jim!

I am lucky enough to be represented by LAW, where an amazing team of people have held my hand throughout my journey as a writer. Peta Nightingale, Jennifer Hunt, Alice Saunders and Niamh O’Grady have my eternal gratitude for their expertise, kindness and ability to deliver a good shake when it’s most needed. Tash Webber has designed the covers of all my books, and this one is an absolute stunner. Becca Allen deployed her ninja proofreading skills and spared my blushes. Thank you all.

At home, my partner Hopi has been by my side and had my back all the way, providing contacts, advice, kisses and gin with unstinting generosity. I love you very much. My darling little Purrs is the best companion any writer could want, making me laugh when I’m on the brink of despair and shouting at me when it’s time for an afternoon nap. I couldn’t have done it without her.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sophie Ranald is the youngest of five sisters. She was born in Zimbabwe and lived in South Africa until an acute case of itchy feet brought her to London in her mid-20s. As an editor for a customer publishing agency, Sophie developed her fiction-writing skills describing holidays to places she’d never visited. In 2011, she decided to disregard all the good advice given to aspiring novelists and attempt to write full-time. After one false start, It Would Be Wrong to Steal My Sister’s Boyfriend (Wouldn’t It?) seemed to write itself and the rest is history… Sophie also writes for magazines and online about food, fashion and running. She lives in south-east London with her amazing partner Hopi and Purrs, their adorable little cat.
