“You mean put her in a medically induced coma.” I replied knowing exactly what he meant and astonished by the fact that he was neglecting to tell us that she was only in a coma because they had slipped her into one in the first place.

“Yes, if it comes to that.” The doctor responded clearing his throat. “I suggest if you want to communicate with her just use this pen and pad. I’ll be back later to see how she’s doing.”

That damn doctor couldn’t have gotten out the room fast enough as he practically tossed the pen and pad in my arms as he left. A few minutes later, a Caucasian, long dark haired nurse came in and began straightening things around the room and checking for things that didn’t need to be checked. I could only assume that this bitch was the watch dog that the doctor sent in the room to make sure we weren’t dogging his prognosis. I would’ve if it weren’t for the fact that Yolo and I weren’t friends. We weren’t anything to each other, so I had nothing to say to his ass. I placed the pen in Flava’s hand while holding the pad sturdy and firm giving her a nice backbone to write on.

“Tired.” She wrote rather sketchy and slow with her left hand.

It was clear that she was a right-handed person but that hand was being occupied by her lying nearly devoted husband. “Just do the best you can and take your time.”

“Betrayal,” She wrote again underneath her first word. Then, “I know who killed me.”

“Who baby? Tell me who did this to you honey?” I said realizing how good she was doing.

“Hey if she’s communicating coherently then you might want to put this on tape just in case she slips back into a coma. The cops could easily use this as evidence and make it hold up in court. I think it’s called a dying declaration or something like that.” The nurse said walking over with her Iphone fumbling through buttons before beginning to record the session.

“But she’s not dying though.” Yolo said kissing the hand of hers he refused to let go.

“Yeah but it can still be used. Keep going. I’ll record it and give it to the doctor to verify.” The nurse said getting shots of everyone in the room then focusing in on Flava’s writing.

“Mink shot me!” Flava wrote going over the words over and over again releasing a faint cry from her mouth and small tears from her eyes. “Mink shot me!”

“Oh my God! I can’t believe that shit.” I said shaking my damn head at the news we just learned.

“Mink? Who is Mink? Do you know her?” The nurse asked.

“Yeah she was just here. It’s her damn sister!” I snapped looking at Yolo who stood with a vexed expression on his face.

“I told that bitch she would never amount to you babe. She was that jealous that she would shoot you over it? That bitch is gonna pay! You mark my words babe. That bitch is gonna pay for what she’s done to you! You hear me?” Yolo said kneeling down placing his head on her hand.

Flava rolled her eyes, grunting in despair. I felt so badly for her and I barely even knew her. She just looked so pitiful and helpless sitting there for basically no reason. It was sad that her life had to come to this because of some deceitful, jealous, coldhearted bitch. It was a shame though that Yolo would exact his revenge on her as he promised because he would soon be euthanized his damn self. I knew I couldn’t let that bitch get away with attempted murder though, so I would exact Flava’s revenge for her. It was perfect. I hated that trifling bitch anyway. She had to go down. Prison was too good for a bitch like that to have three hots and a cot while Flava sat in misery.

For a minute it looked like Flava’s face was turning blue. I did a double take and shit she was turning blue as hell right before our eyes. The nurse turned to her in the video and quickly saved before stuffing her phone in her smock. She reached across Flava’s body and removed Yolo’s hand from her grasp.

“Move sir! Let me help her.” She said as she hit the emergency panic button on the wall. “Move, move. Everybody move.”

“Aye, what’s wrong with her? Is she going to be alright?” Yolo said as he moved back towards the window aside me.

We watched as about seven different nurses and doctors came rushing in the room all jumping on different machines and working to perform CPR on Flava’s body. Interesting enough she hadn’t flat lined so I knew she would be okay. I just figured maybe she just slipped back into another coma. Her head tilted off to the right and her body went as limp as a dishrag. The doctors were all yelling for the shock machine to shock her heart back to life.

Then one doctor looked up at the heart monitor and realized that she had been flat lined for two minutes already. The volume was turned down on the machine. Everybody neglected to look at the monitor because they were looking for the sound being so focused on working on her body. I could see the frustration resonate on their faces as they all one by one shook their heads and left the room.

“1:36pm, time of death. Notify the family.” The doctor ordered the nurse. “I’m so sorry for your loss.”

After the doctor touched Yolo’s shoulder shooting him a solemn look before leaving the room, he walked over to Flava’s body immediately kissing her forehead. Not one tear was shed through his entire process. I, on the other hand, was shocked that she had gone so quickly. She actually looked like she might pull through one minute and then the next she’s laying there turning colder by the second. A nurse was on standby just in case anyone went out of control or needed moral support.

“Hey. I will be turning this video over to the acting physician. He’ll get it to the proper authorities. She’ll get her justice.” The recording nurse came to whisper in my ear.

“Thank you so much. We appreciate that.” I responded as she smiled and left the room.

“You’re coming with me.” Yolo said hemming me up by my arm forcefully. “Say anything and you’re fucking dead right here.

He lured me out of the room quickly and down the hall to the elevator. I had to admit that I was not expecting that. I thought he might had needed time to grieve the loss of his wife before leaving the hospital but I see he wanted his death swift and painful just like I liked to deliver them. His breathing was that of a raging bull and his adrenaline was on fifty. I guess I was supposed to be scared.

  Chapter 10—Cesar

Walking in the parking garage looking around for my truck, I looked over and noticed Ms. Pearl's car was gone. She had parked six cars down on the opposite side of the garage facing my truck. I recognized the ding in the fender that she refused to fix from a year ago. As I started the car up and pulled off, the only person I could think about was my son. My cell was now dead and had cut off the radio transmitter leaving my signal dead as well. I never understood why cells did that shit but gave you the option to call 911. If I were a smart nigga I would stop to get a car charger but seeing as though I knew Ms. Pearl was not a woman who liked to roam the streets, I knew CJ would be at home.

I turned the corner, feeling like I was robbed of my chance to pay my respects to Flava. The only thing that I could hope was that she would be able to pull through without any problems and be able to identify her shooter or at the very least tell us what happened to her. Seeing baby girl laying there like that was the most fucked up thing I’ve seen all year aside from the Cleaning Crew shooting babies down in cold fucking blood.

The expressway got me to her spot in no time. I jumped out pressing the car alarm on my keys and headed up to the door ringing the doorbell. I had kind of hoped to be inconspicuous with my presence but that damn glass door wasn’t hiding nothing. I was ready to see my little man. He was the best thing smoking in my life and I knew he would cheer me clean out of the funk that I was in. I just needed to be in the presence of someone who was pure and free from drama and lies.

“Hey, Cesar.” Ms. Pearl smiled opening the door, inviting me in.

“Hey Momma Pearl; How are you holding up?” I asked.

“Boy, you have no idea. This shit is starting to get to me but I’m maintaining, Ya know? Just trying not to explode.” She
replied plopping down on her plush red sofa lacing up her running sneakers.

“Right, right. I feel you. So where you going? You going to get your exercise on and relieve some steam?”

“Naw. I’m about to take your son to his favorite place on Earth. Well at least his favorite place in Chicago.” She replied dry as hell like her body was tired of living.

“Oh ok.” I replied lowering my head. “Momma Pearl I’m so sorry you’re going through this.”

“Don’t you worry yourself now. God has a way of working these things out for us all.” She smiled gently patting my cheeks as CJ entered the room.

“Dad!” CJ yelled beaming from ear to ear like he hadn’t seen me in forever and running up to me with open arms.

“Hey son! I missed you so much.” I shouted back obliging his hug. “What you been up to kid?”

Just holding him in my arms felt like a cool breeze on a hot summer’s day. It was right. It was perfect. His face grew solemn though and his head lowered as if it wanted to bang itself on the floor. It was like his soul had been torn down, like someone had ripped the very life up out of him in an instant. I had never seen my bubbly, charismatic young man like that ever. Immediately I knew it had to have been what happened to his aunt. They were so close they could have been brother and sister. I forgot that this would hit him like a ton of bricks since it would be feeling like he had just lost his best friend.

“Awe son, Flava’s going to be just fine. Your grandma told you how to pray so you know what to do.” I said rubbing his head to soothe his pain.

“It’s not that.” Ms. Pearl said walking up to rub his head just the same. “Him and his momma got into it a few minutes ago. You know how evil she can be.”

Just as she finished her words, Mink came waltzing her ignorant ass into the room looking black and ugly as ever. Her lips were turned up at my presence as she looked down at CJ with the same look of disgust in her eyes. She was always jealous of the connection that he and I had but the expression on her face now wreaked of pure hatred. Ms. Pearl shot her eyes back and forth between the three of us realizing that shit wad about to hit the fan.

"What are you doing here?" She growled placing her hands on her hips in a Wonder Woman pose. "Let go of him. Let go of my son."

"Oh now he's only your son?" I asked placing my hand on CJ's head.

"Why are you here?" Mink repeated taking a few steps closer to us. "You're now welcomed here."

"Could've fooled me. Last time I checked this was your momma's house and that's who let me in." I laughed.

“Momma, stop letting muthafuckas in your house. You don’t know if I had a restraining order on him or not.” Mink snapped turning to her mother.

“Girl, I ain’t got time to argue with you.” Ms. Pearl responded snatching CJ up by his shoulder gently. “C’mon boy, let’s go get you some McDonald’s so you can calm your nerves.”

“Bring me back a Quarter pounder with cheese, a large fry with a coke, Momma Pearl. I’m good for it.” I smirked as she sent me the nod before walking out the door.

“Me too, ma!” Mink yelled but I was sure her request was ignored.

We were alone. I could have easily went to the car to grab a pistol to put to her brain but since I knew my son would be looking for her when they got back I decided to let her breathe. All the shit this bitch had done to me was fuming in my mind and boiling like a pot of noodles inside of me. I wanted to vomit on her grave after I dug it and threw her in there nearly alive. I wanted to piss on it, shit on it, or light a fucking match in hopes that this bitch felt every bit of it. Even still, it would nowhere begin to inflict the pain she had caused on so many people.

“Why’d you lie on me, Mink?” I said calming my nerve and taking a seat on the small sofa.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. When you’re done squatting in other people’s houses, you can show yourself the door.” Mink said turning around to walk away.

“Bitch, don’t sit here and act like you don’t know what I’m talking about. You fucked with Yolo’s head and got him all fucked up then you gone try to frame me for some shit you know I ain’t do. Why?” I paused watching her turn around to search my eyes for information. “Is it because you feel guilty? Did you shoot your sister?”

“Shoot my sister? Are you fucking smoking something? Why would I shoot my own flesh and blood?” She sucked her teeth.

“Because you’re evil, twisted, and vindictive. That’s why.”

The room grew as silent as it did cold. In the mist of it all a purple Galaxy S began vibrating on the coffee table in front of me. Neither I nor Mink reached for it leading me to believe that Ms. Pearl had ran out and left her cell on the table as she’s done so many times before. We watched as the phone lit up while it vibrated then quickly faded to darkness and quiet. My attention turned back to Mink with my lips twisted not allowing her to get off that easily without answering my question.

“So, what the fuck are you trying to do? Get me locked up on some bullshit so I can never see my son again?” I asked interlocking my fingers.

“Nigga fuck you! You left me and your fucking son stranded, deserted out on the fucking streets. You don’t give a damn about us.”

“You went to your momma’s house...he was already here for the summer visiting. What the fuck are you talking about?”

“You know what I mean, Cesar. You just said fuck our family and me. You weren’t even willing to give us a try.” She said putting her famous puppy dog face.

“Mink, how many chances did you expect to get? Do I got boo boo the fool written all across my face or some shit? You cheated on me…ALL THE TIME!” I snapped rising to get in her face. “You think a nigga supposed to be that damn stupid and stay with your ass?”

“But I always did it for you…for us. You were always working and I was lonely, okay. But while you’re talkin’ we never hurt for shit. We never went without—“

“Because I busted my ass to get it for us. What the fuck did you think I was enjoying working twelve hours a day never seeing my fucking family? Girl you fucked up your good thing, not me. You’re not going to sit there and try to make me feel guilty about being a man and providing for my family.”

“I’m not trying to make you feel guilty. I’m just trying to get you to understand that when you left us, you cut me deep. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t sleep. I could barely peel myself out of bed to take a shower. I needed you and you left me…for some light skinned tramp.” Mink said rubbing my chest with her devilish claws.

“She’s not light skinned, she’s Mexican and she’s not a tramp. She’s a better woman than you’ll ever be.” I said almost feeling as though it was a lie as Miami flashed into my head again. “Excuse me.”

I stepped towards the front door to make sure I had optimal reception while I tried to dial Lasha’s number once more. Back to back it went to the voicemail. It never did that shit. It got me wondering if she even did what I asked her to do or if she had bailed on me once again. My feelings were too involved with this chick and I knew it but when love called my name, I was the type of nigga who answered. So why she was not answering my call, I didn’t know. But after the next three calls went straight to the voicemail, I realized it must truly be over.

“You calling that bitch? She ain’t answering for a reason.” Mink said as I turned to her trying to read her lying eyes for the truth.

  “Why? You know something?”

“Nope. I’m just saying, she’s not answering because this moment right here is written in the stars. We’re supposed to be together.” Mink leaned in softly pressing her lips to mine. “I mean think about it. We’re alone for a reason.”

“Mink the only thing you can do for me is suck my dick and even then it might not get hard.” I said pushing her out of the way. “Excuse me.”

“Oh now daddy I find that hard to believe. You know how I do.” She said tugging at my pants as I stuffed my phone down in my pocket.

I didn’t want my dick wet right now. At least I thought I didn’t. But spending so much time licking pussy and not getting shit does do something to a nigga’s libido. My shit was literally going insane and when she toyed with my belt buckle pulling it loose, I knew she had me. It was cool though, cause I knew how to hold my own with Mink. I knew just what category to place her in and how to treat women who drop to their knees at the drop of a dime. Still, I knew she would take care of a nigga. As she pulled out my dick and shoved it to the back of her throat gagging but swallowing every time, she made me feel like an Allstate commercial. I was definitely in good hands.

“You sure feel hard to me daddy.” She breathed in between slurps.

She was right. I was hard as hell, dick standing at attention like a muthafucka. The harder she slurped the more my head tilted back to the ceiling. I tucked my t-shirt into the palm on my left hand revealing my washboard abs and held the top of her head with my right helping her keep a mild steady pace. Faint moaning excreted from my mouth through no fault of my own as I yearned to bust a nut all in her mouth, eyes, and nose. Looking down at her happy expression, I knew she would have gladly accepted the facial.
