“You did a fantastic job,” he murmured against her belly as he separated the folds of her dress top and revealed her front closure bra. He deftly unhooked it and then spent long minutes paying attention to her sensitive breasts. She clasped his head in place, enjoying the slow way he was building the sexual tension and hunger in her.

He placed little biting kissing down her torso, spreading the dress wide open to reveal her long legs and satin panties. He slowly worked his mouth down her legs, and then he kissed his way back up, stopping for several long moments to give special attention to that area of her body that was weeping for him in anticipation of what was to come.

She was slowly going crazy and decided to return the favor. She opened his shirt, using her fingernails to trace patterns around his nipples and down the defined muscles of his chest. One of the things she loved best about Joel was how in shape he was. It was the off-season for professional football, but he still went to the gym and worked out several hours a day.

She pushed him to a sitting position and then stripped him of his remaining clothes, using her lips and tongue to taste every inch of his skin. Every inch and then some. She settled on the floor, loving him with her mouth, but as often happened, he had no self-control where she was concerned, and he pulled her away long before she was ready.

He settled back on the couch and then pulled her to straddle him, her knees buried in the cushions around his hips. He used his hands to guide her into position and then arched up at the same time he pressed her down upon his turgid length.

Veronica threw her head back at the marvelous sensations, settling into a driving rhythm a few moments later and not slowing down until they were both calling out each other’s names and reaching for the stars.

She collapsed on his chest, and they dozed for a while before hunger drove them to the kitchen and eventually, they ordered Chinese food from the small restaurant a block away. It was delivered in no time, and they took turns feeding one another with chopsticks while they sat on the kitchen floor. She was wrapped in a blanket from the back of the couch, and he was only wearing his boxers.

It was decadent, delicious, and felt oh, so right that when Joel popped the question, Veronica didn’t even seem surprised.

“Let’s do this for the rest of our lives. Marry me?”

  “Yes.”

Joel smirked at her and then tipped her head back for a long and passionate kiss. “You do realize I just asked you to marry me, right?”

Veronica nodded and then sighed. “It took you long enough.”

Joel chuckled and then tickled her until she was crying and threatening to wet her pants if he didn’t stop. “When?” he asked sometime later.

  “Before football starts.”

“Then it needs to be soon. Training camps begin in May.”

  “Let’s get married in April.”

“That’s only a few weeks away,” he cautioned her.

“So, we’ll hire a wedding planner to do most of the work and just show up,” Veronica told him.

Joel chuckled and then proceeded to demonstrate his approval of her plan. In triplicate.

  Epilogue

  Four weeks later…

“Joel, do you take Veronica to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, forsaking all others, to be your lawfully wedded wife?”

“I do,” Joel’s voice rang loud and clear.

“What tokens have you brought today?” the judge asked.

“Rings,” Joel replied, gesturing for the little boy from the children’s center to step forward. He removed the rings from the small satin pillow and handed them to the judge.

The judge held up the rings for all to see. “These tokens are to be worn as a symbol of the love you have for one another. They have no beginning and no end and remind us that when we open our hearts up to love like yours, it also has no end. It will be forever.”

He handed a ring to each of them and then asked them to hold hands and place the rings on the proper finger and repeat after him. “With this ring, I thee wed.”

Joel smiled and then looked at the judge, “Now?”

The judge inclined his head with a roll of his eyes, and Joel murmured, “Finally.” He swept Veronica into his arms and kissed her soundly while cheers and clapping surrounded them.

The wedding of Joel Marketis and Veronica Samuels had taken the City of Boston by storm. The children’s center was still getting donations, both financial and physical, and already planning for yet another addition. The Patriots had arrived with their families in tow to celebrate the marriage of one of their friends and teammates. Veronica’s friends had paled in number in comparison but were no less important.

Their small little wedding had turned into a large congregation of more than four hundred people, and the wedding planner they’d hired was certainly earning her pay today. Joel let Veronica up for air and then turned to the crowd. “She’s mine.”

Veronica shook her head at him and then gave a shout of surprise when he picked her up in his arms, wedding gown, veil, and all and carried her down the aisle that had been created in the large reception room.

“Joel, I think we were supposed to walk back down the aisle.”

“It’s our wedding; we can do what we like. Do you want me to put you down?” he asked as he entered the hallway at the back of the large room.

Veronica sighed and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Never. I kind of like being held safe in your arms.”

Joel chuckled and continued toward the small rooms they had used for the bridal parties. “My champion of women’s rights taken down by one little ole’ me.”

“There’s nothing little about you and probably not a woman under the age of ninety who wouldn’t want to be carried in arms like yours. They’ll have to find their own set, though, because these are all mine.”

“And you are all mine,” Joel set her down inside one of the rooms and then kicked the door shut, grinning when he heard the lock engage. “Perfect.”

He removed her veil and then cupped her face in both hands. “Mrs. Marketis. Hello.”

“Hello,” she murmured, going up on her tiptoes and kissing him thoroughly. “Welcome to our new life.”

  “It’s going to be fantastic.”
