14 Flipping Out - My Sister the Vampire

. . . And no one apologised!
As the bus drove down the road, Ivy touched the spot on her cheek where the ball of paper had hit her, and she smiled.
She’d never been happier in her life.
Readers, when you think about the best in bunny fashion, who springs to mind? A young lady who has stepped out on the red carpet, who’s danced at the prom in a pink rhinestone cowboy hat, and who knows everything there is to know about gingham? Me, too – it’s our favourite friend-to-vampires, Olivia Abbott!
In this issue of VAMP, Olivia has agreed to share some of her unique fashion tips. Her only demand was that we allowed her to use pink rhinestones. Of course we agreed!
So, all you vamps out there, gather your materials and get ready to channel your inner bunny. Olivia Abbott is in town to show you how to turn heads by making your very own special flower accessory.
Signing off,
Georgia Huntingdon, Editor in Chief
Ever since I saw the rose petals that decorated the ballroom in Transylvania, and discovered the super-romantic vampire legend of the Free Rose of Summer, I’ve had a real thing about flowers. And not just pink flowers – they’re great in every colour!
So, here’s my top tip for bringing a floral touch to your own outfit, by adding a homemade flowery headband. And yes, there might just be the odd pink rhinestone included . . .!
Materials Needed
Templates of flowers and leaf (supplied here)
Slim, plain hairband
Green felt
Scraps of stiff flower-printed cotton of felt in different colours
Embroidery thread and needle
Fabric scissors
Cute buttons
Pencil
Glue
Pink rhinestones or glitter
Instructions
Trace the three different-sized flower templates on to a piece of paper and cut them out.
Now choose three different scraps of fabric (or felt if you prefer) and place a flower shape on top of each of them. Draw round the flower shapes with a pencil and cut them out carefully using fabric scissors.
Trace your leaf template on to a piece of paper and cut it out. Place the leaf shape on top of your green felt and cut out, following the edges of the template.
Place your green felt leaf down on your work surface, then arrange your three flowers on top of it, with the smallest shape on top.
Pick out a cute button and place it on top of your arrangement.
Awesome! You should have something that looks like this:
Now it’s time to sew the flower together. Make sure you get an adult to help you. Needles are nearly as sharp as Ivy’s fangs are when she’s forgotten to go to the dentist!
Thread a needle and sew the button to your flower, looping your thread between the holes of the button and making sure you pierce through all of the layers.
After you’ve sewn through the button holes several times, tie your thread in a knot right at the back of your work and cut off the excess thread, close to the knot.
You’ve just created the most beautiful flower! You can make some more, or keep it simple with just one. (My step-mom Lillian always says less is more. But I don’t know about that!)
Now, take your hairband. You’ll need to prop it up between two heavy books or two stable containers so that the top of the hairband is nice and secure.
Apply a few drops of glue to the back of your flower and stick it on to the hairband, wherever you think it will look prettiest. Add the other flowers if you’ve made more than one.
Now take your pink rhinestones and carefully glue them along the rest of the hairband. You could even add some rhinestones to the petals of your flower, for extra sparkle.
Leave overnight for the glue to set.
That’s it! You have just created a hair accessory that is totally unique and totally bunny. Yeehaw!
