The Weaponized: The Complete LitRPG Series
Page 44
“Yeah yeah,” I said. “I’m coming.”
I began to walk toward my pod. It was not the nearest one, though. I could use any of the other three, but out of habit, I had picked my own.
Only when I climbed into my pod and lay down, I realized what I was doing. I was going to join another team of warriors whom I knew nothing about.
What were they going to be like? Would they be nice and friendly? Or would they turn out to be assholes like Vlad?
However, it was too late to have any second thoughts. The lid of my teleportation chamber swung shut, trapping me inside the pod.
Not long after that, I passed out.
To be continued…

Part V
The consciousness returned to me. The first thing that I saw upon opening my eyes was faces hovering above me. Two girls, who seemed to be in their mid-twenties, and a guy in his late twenties or early thirties were staring down at me.
Then I realized I was lying supine in some kind of container. The three persons stood next to the container, staring down at me through the transparent lid.
What is going on here, I thought.
Then I realized something else. My mind was blank. Absolutely empty. I did not possess any memories at all.
Where was I? Who was I? What was happening? Why was I lying in a container of sorts? How did I end up in such a situation?
Lots of questions without answers.
And since I could not remember anything before this moment, I did not even know if what was going on was normal or not. Should I be scared by the situation I had just found myself in? I had no idea.
“Why isn’t he climbing out?” One of the girls asked, snapping me back from my reverie.
I looked up at the three people towering above me again.
“He most probably does not know how to open his teleportation chamber yet,” replied somebody who was keeping out of sight for some reason.
“What are you talking about, Echo?” The same girl asked. “Hasn’t he already been in such a situation?”
“He surely was, warrior,” the person who was outside my field of vision replied. “But he does not remember it.”
“Why doesn’t he?” The girl replied. “Did something happen to him? Got knocked on the head or something?”
“Temporary memory loss is one of the unfortunate side effects of teleportation travel,” the other girl said. “Echo told us this some time ago. Don’t you remember?”
“I can’t remember every single thing I hear somebody say, Maya,” the other girl replied, looking indignant.
Maya emitted a short laugh and said, “I’m just messing with you, Nadia.”
The guy did not participate in the girls’ bickering. He looked down at me and said, “Hey, there should be a touchscreen panel to your right. You can use it to open your pod.”
I turned my head to the right and indeed saw a small button on the right-hand wall. When I pushed it, a holographic display screen popped up. It contained a piece of information.
Name: David Tanner
Level: 75
Class: Flanker
I had no idea what the second and third lines were about. I figured David Tanner was my name, though.
Out of curiosity, I touched the tip of my index finger to the holographic screen. It did not go through it. Instead, I could feel a hard surface under my fingertip.
I tried to scroll down, and it worked. The piece of information about me disappeared to be replaced by two what appeared to be buttons.
[OPEN CHAMBER DOOR]
[CLOSE CHAMBER DOOR]
The second button was grayed-out and could not be pressed. I pushed the first one to open the door. As soon as my fingertip made contact with the button, the transparent lid above me parted vertically, and then the two halves soundlessly slid in the opposite walls of the chamber.
I sat up. The two girls and the guy stepped away from the container to give me room. I climbed out of the pod and glanced around.
The room I found myself in was square in shape. It was pretty spacious but mostly empty. The container I had just climbed out of lay along one of the walls. Farther along the same wall was another container that looked exactly like mine. Along the opposite wall were two other identical containers. In the middle of the room sat something that looked like a round table. One of the walls was completely transparent. Through it could be seen a bluish disk of the local star and the blackness of space with myriads of stars scattered against it. The wall opposite the huge window had a door set in the middle of it.
“What is your name?” The guy asked.
I shifted my attention to the three people standing in front of me and studying me. The guy was tall and kind of lanky. However, while he did not seem to be particularly strong, he looked tough. Something in his eyes told me that he had endured a lot of challenges in his life.
The same held true with the two girls. Though they were not muscular, I could tell they could handle themselves.
Each of them had a hard look in their eyes. It was clear that these people had gone through a lot of hardships. Yet none of the three strangers displayed any hostility toward me. Nadia looked a little sulky for some reason, though.
I already knew the two girls’ names. The one whose short hair was dyed blue was Maya. The other was Nadia. She wore her red hair in a short pigtail.
They were still waiting for me to say something.
“I’m David, I guess,” I finally replied, then pointed back to the pod I had climbed out from. “At least, that’s the name I got from that thing.”
The guy nodded and said, “Yeah. My name is Thomas. You can call me Tom.”
“But we prefer to call him Pinky,” Maya put in, with a teasing smile on her lips.
“Pinky?” I asked as I shifted my eyes back to Thomas.
“Yeah,” he said. “That’s the nickname they gave me.”
“Why?

By way of answer, he held up his left hand. I instantly noticed that his hand was missing the little finger.
“What happened to your pinky?” I asked.
Thomas seemed hesitant. When he finally opened his mouth to say something, Maya beat him to it.
“He lost it on one of our previous missions,” the blue-haired girl said with a big smile on her face. “There was a big explosion not too far from us. It knocked us in different directions. However, when we got to our feet and examined ourselves for injures, we found that none of us so much as got a scratch. Well, except for Pinky.” Maya emitted a short laugh before continuing. “Just like us, he was uninjured. Well, almost. He lost his little finger. Other than that, he was absolutely sound. Not a scratch or a bruise on his body. Can you imagine it?”
Maya was openly laughing now.
Thomas seemed eager to change the topic of conversation. He nodded at Maya and said, “Okay. So this girl’s name is—”
The blue-haired girl spoke up again, silencing Thomas.
“I tried to heal him but even my magic-like healing abilities couldn’t restore his finger,” she said. “All I could do was stop the bleeding and heal the wound. Anyway, that’s why we call him Pinky.”
