“I want you,” he murmured as he brushed her hair aside and kissed her earlobe and her neck, his hot breath making her shudder with longing.

She meant to say, I want you too, but she ended up saying, “I need you.” She pulled back, embarrassed at her unintentional honesty.

But Sean’s eyes were dark with equal need. “If you had any idea how much you turn me on—”

She didn’t think she’d ever turned a man on before, not really, but Sean’s desire fueled her own. Without breaking apart, she managed to get her hands to his waist and slipped up beneath his undershirt, exploring the glorious rippling expanse of his muscular abdomen.

“I haven’t even shown you my house,” he said in between kisses.

“Show me the way to the bedroom,” she said, because that was the only part of the house she was interested in seeing just then. His bedroom and his body, not necessarily in that order.

Grinning, Sean grabbed her hand and led the way. His house was both cozy and spare at the same time. The wood floors and exterior walls were warm glowing pine, and the interior walls were painted eggshell white. Beyond the entry hall, there was a kitchen and beyond that, a vaulted great room with nothing but a black leather sofa, a coffee table, a recliner, and a huge TV. Definitely a bachelor’s house, Annabelle decided. There were no indications that a woman had ever lived here, which made her feel good.

She was sure many women had been in Sean’s bed, though that didn’t bother her as much as she might have expected. It meant he had plenty of experience and plenty of options, and he’d chosen her anyway.

They paused at the doorway to his bedroom.

“Where were we?” he asked as his hands found her hips and pulled them to his. “Right about here, I think.”

“That’s right.” Annabelle slipped her hands under his shirt and sweater again, but this time she pulled them off. He assisted at the end, and her hands roamed across his broad chest. He had a thicket of light brown chest hair. So masculine, she thought. Such a turn-on.

Sean looked like he was in heaven from how she was touching him, the equivalent of a purring cat, and Annabelle was glad he liked to be touched because she liked touching him. Arching her back, she pulled off her sweater, glad she was wearing her good bra. It wasn’t lacy or anything, but at least it was black.

She stepped so close the length of their bodies touched, skin to skin. This is Sean, she thought. Sean’s body. Sean’s lips. This is the man I’ve been waiting for. She slipped her hands around him so she could feel each bone and muscle in his back. Part of her was trying to memorize him in case it turned out this was just all a lovely dream.

Sean buried his face in her neck. “Annabelle,” he said, his voice low and husky. “This feels so right between us.”

“I know.” She tilted her head up to him. That’s part of what scares me.

Their kiss started slow and felt safe, and then it built and felt exciting and dangerous. It seemed like it was beyond them, like a supernatural passion was working through them and they were just along for the ride. In the past, she’d always had a hard time getting out of her head during sex, but the swells of wildness and lust she was experiencing made thinking impossible, and she was glad for it.

Her bra was a front-clasp one. Sean unhooked it and then fondled her breasts. His hands were strong and sure, and he must have known how she longed for his tongue on them because in one swift move he backed her to the bed, guided her down onto her back, and then his mouth covered her nipples, first one and then the other. It was a masterful dance as his tongue and teeth teased her to near-orgasm.

She pulled him back up and reached to unbutton his jeans. “I assume you’ve got a condom or three?”

“I do,” he said, backing off the bed to undress and get naked.

“Then let’s get busy,” she said.

When at last she saw the size and solidity of his cock, all she wanted was to have him inside her. Still on her back, she unbuttoned her jeans, and as she started to slide out of them, Sean reached to help.

“You’re so beautiful,” he murmured, pausing and looking down at her. The intensity of his gaze made Annabelle feel exposed in a good way, in a way to be proud of rather than embarrassed by. “You’re absolutely perfect.”

“Perfect for you,” she said, and then he was on the bed with her, and his fingers slipped inside her. She gasped at the suddenness, and at the spike of pleasure.

She couldn’t think anymore and didn’t want to.

She was more aroused than she’d ever been in her life, and this was Sean Kelly, and he wanted her—finally—as much as she wanted him.

Kneeling on the bed above her, Sean watched Annabelle’s expression as he circled her most sensitive spot with a gentle touch. Her breath was ragged, her mouth open in a moan of pleasure, and he loved how turned on she was. Loved how she spread her legs for him and the fiery waves of her pale red hair falling across her shoulders. He wanted her more than he’d ever wanted a woman before.

“There’s something about you,” he said. “Something I can’t get enough of.”

Her shyness, her innocence, and her frightening intelligence . . . it made Sean feel naked in more ways than one. In her vulnerability, Annabelle made Sean vulnerable, too, and he could no more resist it than snow could resist melting under the sun. Her body was the food for a lifelong hunger, the drink to quench a thirst he hadn’t known he possessed.

“Sean,” she said. “The way you touch me . . . I can’t even . . . I’ve wanted you for so long.”

“Well, you’ve got me,” he said. “You’ve got me good.”

“But is this really happening? I mean, you’re the man of my dreams. Is my dream coming true?”

He slipped two fingers inside her and pumped them slowly. “You tell me—does this feel like a dream?”

  “It feels like—oh!”

He grinned as she cried out. She’d been about to lose it. About to orgasm, and it had surprised her.

Get used to it, Annabelle, he thought. It’s going to happen a lot.

Her hands reached for his stiff cock, but Sean wasn’t inclined to let her have it, not yet. He’d lose control too soon that way, and he wanted to focus on Annabelle’s pleasure first, so he took her hands and guided them to the bed’s headrest so she’d have something to clutch while he explored her sweet nakedness.

“I want to know your body inside and out,” he said, watching her sharp intake of breath at his words. “I want to touch every inch of you, taste every inch of you, and learn what makes you scream.”

Knowing how long Annabelle had wanted him made him feel a power unlike anything he’d felt before. He lowered his mouth to her breast, circling her nipple with his tongue while cupping it with his free hand, taking her nipple in his mouth fully, kissing and nibbling and eliciting a throaty moan from her. Soon enough, she gasped in a way that told him she again was close to orgasm. He ached with arousal, ached with the desire to be fucking her for all he was worth, and he decided it was time.

Removing her hands from the bedpost, Annabelle clenched fistfuls of his hair and pulled him up so he’d kiss her. She tasted of a cinnamon sweetness he felt he’d never get enough of. I want to make her mine, he thought. I want to know her like no man ever has before.

He pulled back from their kiss and straddled her so the length of his cock was between her legs, feeling how swollen she was, how hot and ready and tantalizingly close. She moved, trying to get the tip inside her opening. He teased so she couldn’t.

“Sean,” she panted. He could tell that was her polite way of saying, “Fuck me.”

He grinned. “Annabelle.” He pushed his tip into her—sweet heaven!—and then out again as she gasped. “Tell me what you want.”

She wrapped a leg around his waist, drawing him closer. Capturing him, almost, as if he’d ever try to get away from her. “I want you inside me. Fully. All of you.”

She’s wanted you since high school, he thought to himself, and
when she sank her nails into his ass he decided that she’d waited long enough.

  “You have me.”

He slowly inched his throbbing cock into her. Her glorious breasts heaved in wanting, and her yielding body took him and gripped him tight. He was still for just a moment, feeling every inch of her surrounding him, and then they moved together in a natural rhythm.

He said her name over and over, and she said his name back. He hadn’t expected such intimacy; it was beyond anything he’d ever felt before. If this is now, he thought, I can’t wait for the future. She will be in it, and life will be perfect.

A white-hot fist of pleasure built at the base of his shaft, and he pushed forward into her, hearing her soft cries grow more frantic.

“Come for me, Annabelle,” he said, and she must have liked that, must have liked being told what to do, because he felt her close in around him and then spasm into an explosive, trembling orgasm.

Oh, Annabelle, he thought. You’re saving me just as much as I saved you.

Annabelle felt like she was in a different world, a different life. The incredible sensations rolling through her had already made her lose control once. She had nothing left except the need for more, for Sean to keep on like this, to never stop. As he drove into her with an increasing rhythm that she matched stroke for stroke, she was at the point of no return. When he cradled her head in his hands and told her to come for him, that did it.

She came with an intensity like never before. Wave after wave of release, each one better than the last.

Afterward, she was weak, still undulating with the afterglow. Sean slowed his thrusts, seeming to feel every pulse of her muscles, and then he cradled her in his arms and rolled them together so she was on top of him.

“You’re amazing,” he said. “I love how your body moves.”

Annabelle beamed with pride. She’d never been called amazing before, certainly not in the bedroom, and it made her want to be amazing for him. She determined to make him lose control like she had. Despite the shattering orgasms she’d just experienced, with Sean still inside her she could already feel the stirring of another.

Placing her hands on his broad chest, thrilling at the feel of his hard muscles beneath the softness of his chest hair, she straddled him. His eyes were hungry as she dangled her breasts tantalizingly near his mouth, knowing he’d want to take them in but never quite letting him.

I could do this forever, she thought. Make my man happy and completely lose myself in him. Find myself in him, too.

She dipped her head and kissed him, tried to tell him so without words. His hands found her breasts, claimed them, as she rode the length of his cock up and down. She was so raw and sensitive that every sensation was magnified. Pleasure and pain and pleasure, pleasure, pleasure.

With a light touch, Annabelle ran her fingernails down his chest.

  “Harder?” she asked.

“Don’t hold back with me,” he said. “Never hold back.”

Urgency overtook her, a wildness, a need to come and make him come, to scream and make him scream. Sean’s face was a taut mask of trying to stay in control but being unable to for much longer. She felt him vibrating inside her, filling her to perfection.

“Please don’t stop,” he said, his eyelids half-closed in rapture, and she wondered if he knew where he was anymore.

  “Never,” she said.

Throwing her head back, she closed her eyes to absorb the pure ecstasy she was feeling, smiling from how good it felt.

“You’re ridiculously beautiful,” he said as she rode him. “You’re the sexiest woman I know.”

His words, or his willing cock, or maybe the combination of both, sent her into a heated frenzy. The first bit of orgasm took her by surprise, and she moaned as it roiled through her in all its aching delight, so absorbed in her own pleasure that for an instant she forgot him, but then she heard him call out her name with a sharpness that spoke of wanting desperation.

“Let go, Sean,” she urged him. “Join me.”

That was all it took, the last moment of him holding back, and with one big groan Sean’s orgasm released.

They shuddered together, and then she collapsed onto him, and he held her close, and said her name again and again in a tone that contained something close to wonder.

“I’m glad your car broke down,” he said once they were cuddling together under the covers, her head with its glorious red hair resting on his chest. “Or maybe none of this would have happened.”

She gave him a satisfied, post-coital smile. “You think?”

“Who am I kidding?” he said. “Of course this would have happened. It was bound to happen. Fated, even.”

  “You believe in fate?”

“Oh, that’s right,” he said. “You’re a scientist, so I don’t suppose you do.”

“Where you’re concerned, maybe I do,” she said. “I mean, falling into a crevasse on a glacier and having you show up? That cannot be just a coincidence. A gift from the gods, maybe, but not a coincidence.”

He took a deep breath, loving the weight of her head on his chest. She was tucked into the crook of his shoulder, and as she felt so perfectly right, he grew suddenly worried.

“We’re together now, right?” he said. “Please tell me this wasn’t a one-time thing.”

Annabelle softly bit the flesh of his shoulder. “It better not be.”

“You’ll stay the night?” he said. “You’ll let me make you breakfast in the morning?”

  “Definitely,” she said.

He kissed the top of her head, and the relief he felt surprised him, as had the worry that prompted his invitation. He usually didn’t stay the night with women until after several months of solid dating, but with Annabelle, he could hardly bear the thought of her leaving.

So this is what it’s like, he thought as he watched her fade off to sleep. This is how forever happens.

  18

Thursday morning, Annabelle woke to the sound of soft snores. She opened her eyes and saw light dancing in the room; the curtains were open, and she could see the rising sun peeking through the trees. A fluffy down comforter enveloped her and her pillow was perfectly soft, just the way she liked it.

And then there was the solid-muscle weight of an arm around her, his hand holding her bare breast, and the feel of warm sleeping breath on the back of her neck, moving her hair.

This is comfortable, she thought. This is right.

Then she was fully awake and remembered where, exactly, this was. Sean Kelly. Last night. They’d had sex. She’d slept at his house. Images from the night before played in her mind, images and sensations, and the languid feeling in her muscles reminded her how much she’d enjoyed it. After falling asleep the first time, they’d coupled twice more throughout the night. And now she was tucked into him, with his hand on her breast and his cock lightly pressed into her buttocks. She was potentially minutes away from having him again, and the more she thought about it, the more she wanted it.

After a few moments of lying there in a swirling mix of arousal and terror and what-have-I-done insecurity, Sean’s arm shifted and he rolled onto his back. Annabelle chanced a look back at him and discovered he wasn’t the one snoring. That would be Samwise the cat, a black ball of fur curled on Sean’s other side.

She also discovered that Sean’s face while sleeping was impossibly handsome. He looked untroubled, the lines of his brow smooth, his brown hair flopped rakishly across his forehead. His lips held a slight smile as if he was having a pleasant dream.

Maybe he’s dreaming of me, she thought. Which would be nice after so many years of me dreaming about him!

Annabelle was in new territory. She’d never fallen into bed with a man who’d made her lose all control the way she had last night—multiple times. There had only been two men before Sean, and neither had been particularly skilled in lovemaking.

Sean sure was. Being with him was what she imagined it was like being on a potent, addictive drug
. She wanted more, a never-ending more.

And that meant burrowing deeper under the covers, watching the light play across the ceiling as it reflected off the snow on the ground outside, and waiting for him to wake up . . . which he did a little while later, rolling towards her and pulling her close with a deep sigh, as if making sure she hadn’t vanished in the night.

  “Hey,” he said gently.

  “Hey.”

His face was beside her, eyes open, with that dreamy half-smile still on his face. “Good morning.”

  “Good morning.”

“You’re naked,” he said, his hand touching her beneath the covers, sliding from her breasts down her stomach and stopping at the juncture of her thighs.

“All your fault,” she murmured, feeling slightly embarrassed that he was about to discover she was already hungry for him.

But when Sean’s hand moved further down, his fingers exploring, he made a low noise of approval in his throat. “Annabelle,” he almost growled. “Let’s never leave this bed.”

That idea sounded just about perfect. If they never left, there would be no real world in which Sean might decide she wasn’t his type after all.

Feeling bold, she reached out a hand and found that she wasn’t the only one who’d woken up aroused.

They came together more gently than the night before, Sean cradling Annabelle beneath him, never breaking their kiss even as he slid inside her. He moved with slow, deliberate thrusts. She rocked her hips up to meet him every time. As her pleasure began to build, she couldn’t help gasping his name. “Sean. Yes. Sean.” It rolled off her tongue so easily, and she knew it was because his was the face she’d always wanted, always imagined, above her.

If last night’s orgasms were lightning crackling through her body, this was the thunder, a deep, powerful tumult that pounded through her, shuddering for long minutes. When she came, Sean didn’t hold back, following her over the edge with a groan and a whispered, “Oh, yes, Annabelle,” through gritted teeth.
