“Record time?” Fancy asked. “Could you please be more specific?”
Case took her by the hand and twirled her around. “As soon as we can get the marriage license.”
Fancy let out a squeal. “Case! Our families will expect something grander than a quickie wedding. Mama will want it to be the talk of the town.”
“What do you want?” he asked. “Because I don’t want to waste another single moment not being your husband.”
“I know. I feel the same way, but I still want to wear the fancy white dress and have all of our friends and family in attendance. I still want the fairytale.”
Case saw the look of hesitation on Fancy’s face. She wanted to be her authentic self, while at the same time respecting his wishes. And even though he didn’t want to wait to become her husband, he wanted to make her happy. That would be his goal for the rest of his days. Happy wife. Happy life.
“Why don’t we do what we’re going to be doing for the rest of our lives?” He brushed a kiss across her forehead. She looked up at him with love shining in her eyes. “Compromise.”
“Oh how I love that word,” Fancy gushed. “We can plan something elegant and meaningful, but not too big or too fancy.” She began to hop up and down with excitement, which brought an instant smile to his face. Her exuberance was part of who she was right down to her core. “And we can have it at Savannah House. It might be a little tricky with all the guests we have booked, but I should get some special consideration since I’m one of the owners.” She let out a whoop of unbridled joy.
Case nodded, instantly warming to the idea. “Now that’s not a bad idea. That way we can decide when and how many people without having to go through wedding planners or event organizers.” Case twisted his face up. “That part gets complicated.”
Fancy giggled at his expression. “Baby, this event will be flawless and uncomplicated and spiritual. The people we love most in the world will be there. And more importantly than anything else, God will be there. After all, He brought us back together.”
“He did,” Case said, reaching for Fancy and wrapping his arms around her waist. “When I did all my soul searching and turned to God for His support, it all became very clear. You, Fancy Tolliver, are my world. Together, with our faith, love, trust and understanding, we can conquer any obstacles in our path. I love you, my sweet Fancy.”
“Oh, Case,” she whispered. “I love and adore you. And I can’t wait to share our happy news with everyone who has been rooting for us.”
“That can wait,” Case said in a low voice. “I need to kiss my fiancée and seal this deal.”
“Oh it’s already been sealed,” Fancy said. “Just you try getting rid of me.”
“Never,” Case said as he lowered his head and placed a searing, triumphant kiss on his beloved’s lips. The kiss signified that from this day forward, they would be walking away from the turmoil of the past and toward their glorious future.
