“Pushing is normal. You’re supposed to do that, it will help.”

He groaned and in a matter of seconds he was thrusting his hips.

“You’re doing really good. That’s it. It’s going to get hot and you’ll want to move faster. That’s good, you can do that.”

  “Harder!” he growled.

“You want me to hold you harder?”

He looked down and wrapped his hands around hers and squeezed, staring at her, his mouth open in astonishment as he moved.

“Do it,” she whispered to him, staring into his glowing, slit gaze before she looked down at their hands. Charlotte couldn’t resist allowing it to hit her lips.

Poe’s breath shot out followed by several strained grunts.

“That’s it, let it come, let it come, don’t stop.” Unable to deny herself any longer, she tasted. She suddenly felt like she’d die if she didn’t have more his otherworldly essence.

“Scribbler!” He grabbed her head and held it tight, giving her his first roaring release.

The second it was over and she released him, he spun away from her. “Scribbler! I’m… I’m sorry. Dear Gods, what is happening?”

“It’s fine!” She hurried to him and latched her arms around his heaving torso from behind. “You did exactly perfectly. Stop making such a fuss!”

“I was supposed to do that?” he said incredulous.

“Yes, you were. How did it feel?”

His breath shot out of him several times.

“Amazing,” she helped. “It’s called amazing, and it’s called better than anything you’ve ever experienced.”

“Yes,” he whispered. “What… kind of sorcery is this?”

“It’s not sorcery, Poe, it’s humanity.” She smiled, her heart hammering in her chest and other places that he’d had his first experience with her. “And you did very well.”

“I’m glad it’s over,” he gaped. “Thank you. So, now I’m healed?”

She clenched her eyes and bit her lip hard. “For now.”

“For now? How long will it be gone?”

“It’s different for some.” She released him, playing the casual healer. “I’m tired. You will sleep in this room? I don’t want to be alone.”

“Of… of course.” He sounded like an awkward virgin in an impossibly sexy body.

She smiled while climbing under the covers. “You can have the other bed.” But she knew even as she climbed in, that she was hardly done with Mr. Poe.

  ****

Poe laid in the spare bed, fighting the images in his head. The thing the Scribbler had done to him. Not just with her hand but her lips. Poe clenched his eyes at feeling it. The dreaded disease had already returned. Hardly an hour later! It was worse than the other bodily functions his human form forced upon him. Much worse. And yet there was something else he felt with his Scribbler. She’d helped him in a very… difficult fashion. He felt… indebted in a most humiliating way. He recalled the way she hugged him after his ordeal. He’d been so relieved and grateful to her. She’d done it without any thought to herself even when she’d clearly said how hard it was for her as well.

And that she was—aroused she’d called it—like he was. Knowing that, made it hotter. He liked it, he realized. Very much. Even used it to help him with the release. Seeing her hands and mouth on him as though she were hungry for it. And he needed so much more and even as he needed it, she’d… sucked that impossibly hot part.

He’d not missed the look in her gaze. It burned him deeply.

Poe jerked his head at hearing his Scribbler making little sounds very similar to what she’d made while performing his release. He strained to hear for several seconds—his manhood straining as well.

  “Poe,” she whispered.

  “Yes?” he answered immediately.

  “I had a bad dream.”

The sound of her voice made him sit up but he wasn’t sure why. “I’m sorry,” was all he could think to say.

“Can you lay with me? Just until I fall asleep?”

His member jerked at her words and Poe choked on the groan it evoked. He realized all at once that the beast wanted that very much. “Of course,” he said, agreeing to certain death.

  “Thank you,” she said.

Again, that part of him jerked at her voice. A wisp of silk along the hungry mouth of the beast. He stood next to her bed and she scooted over. Best for both if he lay on top of the… she opened the covers for him and his body slid in at the offer.

Once he was under those covers, Poe was in dire trouble. The first thing was her scent. He turned his head away to breathe air not saturated with it. Then she snuggled up to him and moved his arm so she could put her face against the side of his chest.

He lowered his hand and rested it… he jerked it back at finding naked flesh. Surely she…

She snuggled the length of her small body on him, and his hand itched to touch and see if his mind had determined correctly. The material she wore was very soft. Perhaps it was that.

She turned over and faced away, drawing a sigh of relief from Poe. “Can you hold me?”

Quarks! Back to dead. If she had no clothes on, all was lost. Poe turned and draped his arm over her and she grabbed hold and pulled it close to her body. He clenched his eyes at the warmth of her naked flesh. She gave a tiny moan and scooted her bottom into his raging groin.

  “Mmm, thank you.”

Thank you? What was he to say to that? She’d just demanded everything of him and thanked him when he was fighting not to… do something. And just what was that? Make her release him again?

  “Are you okay?” she asked.

He gasped. “No. No, I’m not okay.”

When he was sure it couldn’t get any worse, she turned and faced him. “Me either.”

The idea that something was wrong with her, helped to briefly dispel the raging ache taking him over. “What’s wrong?”

“I… I’m suffering with the same thing you have.”

Heat gripped him hard and that member between his legs did war with his fears and defeated them in one blow. “What do I do?”

“I can do it,” she whispered, turning on her back next to him. “I just…” Her legs opened and she began making soft moaning sounds.

  “What are you doing?”

She took his hand and brought it between her legs and he felt her. “I’m touching where it… aches.”

Poe gasped, smelling her again. “It aches?” The scent was coming from there, between her legs. Divinities! It caused power to spike through him, provoking him to act but how, he wasn’t sure.

“Yes,” she opened more, pushing her leg into him. “It’s so hot right here.”

Poe suddenly needed to see the problem. “I can’t see.” He traced her hand, trying to understand what she touched. She moved his hand again and this time Poe gasped in shock at what he felt. The most exquisite silk he’d ever encountered. Hot and wet. His fingers wasted no time exploring her with a delicate wonder.

“Yes,” she whispered, moving under his tentative touch. “Touch me there. Kiss me while you touch me, Poe.”

No power in the universe could keep him from denying her. Her fingers snaked along his neck and gently pulled him down.

“Kiss me,” she whispered against his mouth when he hovered.

“I’m not sure…how.” The rasped words came with the soft slide of his lips along hers, much like his fingers over the hot silk between her legs.

“Yes!” Her breath filled his mouth and she opened her lips more, kissing him now. A wave of dizzy rushed over him when her other hand moved his so that Poe’s finger dipped inside her body. She gave a delicate cry in his mouth, her tongue moving against his, beckoning him to some kind of dance he vaguely might know at some instinctual level.

Poe’s body shuddered with more of that provoking need to do something. Something immediately, as his Scribbler held his wrist tight and moved him in and out of her, similar to the motion of her ton
gue that seemed hungry to taste him.

Poe’s breath escaped in ragged bursts as he pressed his manhood into her leg while exploring her body’s inner silk. “Scribbler,” he whispered hoarsely in her mouth.

“Poe, Poe!” she cried, suddenly thrashing her head. He discerned her fingers touching herself just above his hand. He looked down, finally able to make out what she looked like.

Divinities. Her legs were wide open and she thrust herself into his hand, showing him what she wanted. The need to oblige her perfectly made him groan as he thrust his finger as deep inside her as he could, bringing her shrill cry.

  “Kiss me!” she gasped.

Poe went to her mouth with a hunger this time, his tongue harmonizing with the stroke of his finger. Her nails dug into his wrist as her legs and body shuddered, his name a desperate plea on her every breath. Her final “Poe,” came on a delicate whimper as she held his face and kissed his lips softly until his own heat became unbearable.

They both fought to get his clothes off until he was naked. She pushed him down onto the bed with her palms on his chest and knelt between his legs. When she opened them, panic gripped him.

“I got you,” she whispered, grabbing hold of his raging length. “You’re safe.”

Poe gripped the covers as she descended on him then he bowed off the bed as she devoured his manhood in one moment. She moved on him like a slow hungry fire, her long soft moans tickling all the way to the top of his spine.

“Scribbler! You’re sucking me.” He gasped, watching her, rolling his hips slowly. “Tasting me,” he strained. “I want to taste you this way. I want… I want to have this inside you, where my finger was.”

She gasped and cried out, licking him along the hottest parts.

He bowed off the bed again. “So hot! Scribbler, so hot! Don’t stop.” He held her head, watching her again. “Don’t stop, Scribbler,” he growled. “It’s coming. God it’s coming so hard, so hot!”

She stroked beneath what he knew as his testicles and his release rushed forward in a harsh wave of power, his upper body coming off the bed to see. See her doing that very impossibly amazing thing while he released. She answered with hot whimpers, her grip tighter while the fire came out of him in savage growls, his fingers wrapped viciously in her hair. But he couldn’t help it. The fire burned him so he could scarcely think.

She kissed softly now, satisfaction purring out of her as she kissed her way along his still heaving torso. When her head reached his chest, she laid on him, and snuggled her body along his.

  “Thank you,” she whispered.

Poe was speechless. There were no words, not even questions. There were just no words. He wrapped his arms around her, his legs entangling in hers. He closed his eyes not understanding how the feel of her legs along his, her body pressed into him, her head on his chest, and his arms around her could be so utterly glorious.

Poe’s body slowly relaxed and his eyes drifted closed with a most potent sedation he’d ever experienced.

  Chapter Seventeen

  Charlotte looked all around her.

  “Are you lost, Scribbler?”

Charlotte shot a glare at Poe, wondering for the fifth time what his problem was. He was making everything so awkward! Everything was fine until the second she came out of the bathroom that morning after her shower. She found him sitting at the edge of the bed looking like he’d been told awful secrets. When she tried to approach him and offer him use of the bathroom, he walked off and out of the hotel room, rude as you please.

As soon as they had a moment, she’d find out what his problem was. If they’d ever have a moment. He’d repeated his plan to her like she may have forgotten it. Find all seven arks and go back to Octava, ASAP. Like he couldn’t wait to get away from her! Just what was he so pissed about? And it didn’t help that he was so utterly and ridiculously delicious looking every second of every minute. “Well excuse me, but I’m tired.” She took a right and backtracked to the address she’d passed. “We’ve been driving for eight hours straight, cut me some slack.”

“I suppose you’re ready to stop and play at a hotel.”

She gasped at his words, looking at him.

  “Car!” he yelled.

She slammed the breaks, squealing the tires. “I’m sorry, shit,” she gasped. “That’s it. That store right there.” She angled her head peering at the place. “Tattoo parlor? Great.”

  “Park,” Poe ordered, rudely.

“I was.” She zoomed across two lanes, slammed the brakes, grabbed the back seat and reversed into a spot at the speed of what the fuck. Yeah you grab that dash, Mr. Poe. She shoved the stick shift into park. “Hand me my bag, will you Cado?” She turned and pointed to the back, grabbing it from him when he passed it to her.

She scooted her seat back a little and glanced at a Poe staring at her. “Go get your Ark Poe, I have stories to scribble.”

  “Are you kidding?” he said.

“Do I look like I’m kidding?” She opened the lap top.

“Cado, come with me,” Poe said.”

  “What about me?” Kane asked.

“I need you to watch over Miss Howe.”

“Mark Briggs.” Charlotte angled her head at Kane and smiled. “I’m Mark Briggs when I’m writing my fantasy,” she cooed to him before shooting a glare at Poe.

“What am I going to do?” Cado asked sounding worried.

“You’ll lead me out in case I get blinded again for some reason.”

Fear struck Charlotte at the idea of him getting hurt. “Maybe I should go.”

“Oh no, no Mr. Briggs,” he opened his door. “By all means, tend to your fantasy.”

She quirked her lip while looking all around. “Is it safe?”

“As far as I can tell.” Before shutting the door he peered in at her with his bright eyes. “Try to keep your thoughts down, will you? It makes it really hard for me to think.”

He shut the door, leaving Charlotte with her mouth hanging open. “Is he… can he read my mind?” she gasped, suddenly horrified if he could.

“He’s got lots of power,” Kane said.

She sat there considering if he could, what he might have heard. Nothing she’d want him to hear! How dare he?

“Can we stop at another hotel soon, Mom?”

Charlotte’s stomach jolted at the term. He’d not called her that in a while. “Of course we can, sweetheart.” She felt like… such a fraud. Truth be told, she was glad to let him call her that, it made her feel… normal.

Charlotte looked toward the tattoo parlor, wondering how it was going, scolding herself for choosing now to get pissy with Poe. She glanced in her rearview mirror, looking for trouble. Pissy with Poe, good one. Wait, what was she saying, he was the pissy one!

“You got any more movies? I’m hungry and bored. I had another dream.”

She jerked around in her seat. “What was it?”

“I dreamed I was a hero. And I killed the bad man!”

She let out a laugh. “Well of course you did! You are a hero!” She pulled down the panel to go through the kid selection of movies. “Ohhh, what about Spirit? I loved that one. He was a hero too.”

“I like horses,” he said. “Mr. Poe rided me on his horse in Octava. His name was Mage.”

Charlotte turned to him. “Did he? Say,” Charlotte wondered. “Did you ever see Mr. Poe with a girl in Octava? Like a girlfriend?” She couldn’t help wonder what he did while she wasn’t keeping him busy in her story. She realized he had tons of leisure time on his hands at the rate she wrote.

“Nope. Mr. Poe doesn’t like love.”

  “Ah, right.”

“He says there’s something wrong with the couple’s in the romance province, says they’re confused.”

“He did say that, I remember!” Charlotte tapped the screen and set the movie on the back seat screen. “You remember how to use the ear phones?”

  “Yep!” he yelled too loud.

  “Good,” she mumb
led, eyeing the tattoo parlor. Who would be next, some giant bald headed man covered in tattoos?

  ****

Poe regarded the large bald headed man covered in tattoos. At feeling Cado’s terror on his left, he reached down and took hold of his wrist. It would be the first surge of real information that he got on the boy and it nearly wrecked the operation at what he felt in his body and mind. He’d been abused in unthinkable ways that sent a rage burning in Poe. At that Church. Cado gasped and looked down, just as Poe realized he was strangling his wrist.

Focusing, he pulled power from the center of his stomach and channeled it into his lungs. “I just need to speak to the girl. Then we’re leaving. There will be no trouble.”

Poe felt the serum of his words hit Cado even as white sparks lit up the big man’s dark eyes. “Sure thing man,” he said in complete cooperation.

Poe nodded, surprised he wasn’t blind after that trick with such a large humanoid. In fact, he felt… energized. He looked at the tiny blonde haired girl on the large man’s right who could have been his Scribbler’s sister by age and build. He locked his gaze onto her dark green one, finding terror in its depths. Again he drew energy, same as before. But before he could speak, she hurried to his side and held his arm tight. For several seconds, Poe stared into her eyes and knew, he’d somehow just saved her life.

“I need you to come with me,” he said anyway. “I’ll explain it later.”

She gave him a tiny nod and Poe took her hand and walked her out. Hurrying to the vehicle, he looked all around. “What’s your name, little one?” He fought to hold the shields in place as they went, already knowing who she was the second she’d touched him. Although, he didn’t know more beyond that.

“Lark,” she gasped, like she’d been holding her breath.

  “I’m Cado,” the boy said.

  “Hi,” she whispered.

As Poe got closer to the vehicle, he was unable to hold the block keeping his Scribbler’s thoughts out. Who is that? Were the first words he heard her think. Did she suppose he was in there grabbing random people for a social picnic?

He opened the back door and Cado and the girl got in. He shut it and got in the vehicle. “Drive,” he whispered, feeling something hitting his barrier. Something seeking.
