“Dalton, please don’t stop,” the words shot straight to his groin, a rush of heat that set him tingling with the force of an upcoming release. He slammed into her again and again until he finally came in long, hard bursts inside her.
The night was passed restlessly but in the most satisfying way, with each of them waking the other up repeatedly to satisfy their need. Morning came all too soon.
Still, though… waking up next to Julie, he couldn’t really mind that the amazing night had ended.
“I love you, Julie. I always have.”
She smiled sleepily and pressed a kiss against his chest before laying her head on it.
“I know,” she replied with a small, satisfied smile.
Epilogue
The spring morning dawned sunny and bright. This was it. Today. When the sun set this evening, she would be Julie O’Malley. She’d wanted Dalton, waited for him, for so long. How many times had she scrawled Julie O’Malley in the margins of her notebooks, way back in high school? She’d never thought it would be a reality, not after she’d messed things up so terribly.
And yet… she smiled to herself when a knock sounded on the door, and she recognized Dalton’s voice as he called out a welcome.
“You’re not supposed to see me. It’s bad luck,” she chided jokingly as she opened the door.
“I’ll keep my eyes closed. Promise,” he murmured as he leaned down to capture her lips with his.
She smiled and looked into his eyes. “Liar. Your eyes are wide open.”
His smile widened as he leaned in to kiss her again. She couldn’t believe that she was so lucky, that this man was going to share his life with her, was going to be the father of the life growing inside her.
“I had to see you. How can I not look at the most beautiful woman I’ve ever known on the best day of my life?”
She’d been waiting for the right moment to tell him. This, she decided, was it.
“Would it get any more perfect if I told you that you’re going to be a father?”
He was too choked with emotion to answer her, but the look on his face said it all. This was it. The most perfect day of their lives.
