Trafficking (Powell Book 1)

“We want to find Afina,” Dimitry said. “You are going to tell us where to find her.”
She felt fear in her heart but not for herself, not even for Afina, who had Powell to help but for Adriana, who was due home very shortly. She prayed they would be gone before Adriana arrived.
“Get me a glass of water,” Dimitry instructed Bogdan. “I’m going to remove the tape. Don’t make any noise or I will hurt you.” He ripped the tape from her mouth.
Bogdan returned with a glass of water, handed it to Dimitry and he in turn held it to her lips. She drank a little.
“So where is Afina?” Dimitry asked.
“She is in England.”
“I know she is in England but where is she?”
“She is in Brighton.”
“I fucking know she’s in Brighton but where is she?” Dimitry shouted impatiently.
“I’m not sure. She calls me sometimes but I don’t know where she is living.”
“That’s a pity. It would save you a great deal of pain if you could just tell me something, which would help me find Afina.”
“I know she moved from where she was originally staying but I don’t have any other details.”
Without warning Dimitry wrapped more tape around her mouth. “Let’s take her to the bedroom,” he said.
They untied her and supporting each arm half carried, half dragged her to the bedroom.
“Hold her up.” Dimitry said. He roughly tore and pulled off her clothes until she was naked. “Did you know I had the pleasure of fucking Afina the day she arrived in England? No, I guess she wouldn’t share those sort of details with her mother. She has a nice body but a very tight arse. I have a very large cock as you will discover in the minute and it was difficult getting all of it into Afina’s tight little arse but we managed it in the end. Now we will discover if you are equally as tight.”
She heard the front door opening and knew it could only be one person.
“Hello mama,” Ariana called out. “I am home.”
She had been pretending to be weaker than she felt. She summoned up all her strength and kicked out at Dimitry’s crotch.
“Bitch,” he shouted, bent double and in serious pain.
In the same instant she threw her head backwards and connected with Bogdan’s nose. He released his grip on her arms and she tore the tape from her mouth.
“Run Adriana,” she screamed at the top of her voice. “Get help.”
Dimitry punched her in the face and she collapsed to the floor.
Afina found Powell downstairs in the bar.
“Did Adriana get home okay?” Powell asked and then seeing the tears streaming down her face asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Dimitry went to my mother’s apartment. There were two of them and God knows what they would have done to my mother but Adriana came home and she ran for help.”
“Are they both okay?” Powell asked, deeply concerned.
“My mother has a fractured jaw but otherwise she is okay. They didn’t touch Adriana. She was lucky, as she ran out on to the street to look for help, two policemen came to her assistance. When they went upstairs there was no sign of Dimitry. He had probably taken the fire escape. What are we going to do, Powell? With Dimitry free my family can never be safe.”
Powell had to agree that it was impossible for Afina to move on with her life while Dimitry was at large. To his mind this latest attack by Dimitry was the straw that finally broke the camel’s back. Powell had encountered similar people before, who only knew how to use violence and terror to achieve their criminal aims. Like Dimitry, they were usually arrogant and felt themselves superior to those around them, not recognising the limits others lived their lives by. Well Powell had reached his limits of restraint. Bella would understand it was imperative he acted promptly to cut out the cancer that was putting so many people’s lives in danger. There was no other option.
“I will deal with Dimitry,” Powell said with conviction. “Where are your mother and Adriana staying?”
“Mama is in hospital and Adriana is staying with a friend. What are you going to do?”
“I’m going to visit Bucharest again and I promise you I won’t come home until Dimitry is no longer a danger to your family. There’s something you should know though before I go. If anything happens to me, I have changed my will so you will inherit the bar.”
“What do you mean, I inherit the bar?”
“You will own the bar.” He didn’t bother to add, as sole beneficiary she would also own his house and everything else. “But don’t get too excited, I fully intend to live for a very long time.”
Afina couldn’t stop her tears. She ran into Powell’s arms and gave him a huge hug. “You are too kind.”
“I know it’s what Bella would have wanted. You and she would have liked each other.”
“It is too dangerous for you to go to Bucharest, Powell. I don’t want you killed as well.”
“I can look after myself and remember, despite what Dimitry has done to you and your family, I have a more powerful reason than any of you for wanting to see him behind bars.”
