Anabelle - Vampire & Werewolf & Witch

by Mela Zen

Now old as a fart, I see my niece and nephews with dire faces, crying at my going away. I opted to not have surgery that could have prolonged my life. I actually thought about it but then again I thought it was time.

I lived a good life without the love of my life. I finally get to see her, hopefully not in my old state but a younger state, in the afterlife.

“I am going to miss you brother. You were always the father in my eyes,” she cries softly.

“Yeah, yeah. You guys better get going, you do not want to be late to school, especially when Danny boy over there has a big presentation.”

“But...uncle I want to say,” the young eight-year-old whines.

“Now, now. Please go home and rest.”

“I will see you tomorrow, okay brother?”

  “Bye, sister.”

She packs up the kids and leaves me alone in the room. The pain in my chest and my head increases, I moan wishing for a speedy death. However, this process will take a while. I turn on the tv, on the lowest brightness setting and the lowest volume not loud enough to hurt my eardrums.

Weirdly, Annabelle’s favorite movie came on. I haven’t seen that movie in years, not since our night in Italy. This movie is with that one actor Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, in their hay day. So many years have passed since their passing.

I smile at it, chuckling at some of the jokes and I am starting to feel the pain fade away. My eyes grew heavy, blinking at the flying spaceships and I blink again seeing my loves face. Then I heard the monitor’ beeping noise turn tone deaf.

  Flashback

That is when I see the blade lift high above Annabelle and she pulls it down to her heart, she wincing at the stab. The demon then screams with agony and pain, holding its chest, breathing for air.

“Annabelle!” I yell, running towards her. Why did she do this?

“What the fuck?” Jax gets up from Anna’s grasp and running behind me.

But it was all too late as Annabelle grabs the blade and twist it more and more until both her and the demon fall at the same time.

When I reach her, all she did was look up at the sky, never making eye contact with me. Instead, she blinks a few times, smiling.

  Is she at peace?

“Annabelle, baby what did you do,” I ask her. All I got in response was a few more blinks.

  Then she closes her eyes.

I wake up in a soft bed, a king size bed similar to the one I have at home. My eyes wander around recognizing everything that is in place, apart from a few minor changes such as the pictures and some of the paintings. Paintings I will always harp Annabelle on for their simplicity and lack of...well...art.

I get up to look at myself in the mirror, looking at my younger self. Well, a tad bit younger than what I was when…

  Wait, am I dead?

“Theoretically, yes you are dead. Your soul is no longer in the living world but in this afterlife, you see,” Grace appears looking good as ever. Does she even age?

“No, I do not age. Elijah, you are in the afterlife, heaven if you will. There are variations of heaven, you have the pearly white gates, your perfect world, or you can simply just sleep.”

  “Where am I now?”

“Your heaven is your ideal world. Time continued to pass, but instead of being there in the real world you are here. Think of it as being a ghost, but not really a ghost.”

“MA! I already told you I brought the cupcakes. I will be there,” I hear the angelic voice downstairs making my heart beat.

  “I thought I was dead,” I whisper.

“Yeah, but we still function the same.”

  “Can I see her?”

“If you accept the fact you are not coming back. It still appears that your body can handle a few more days. Hence why Annabelle can’t sense you, you haven’t really accepted that you are gone.”

“I…,” I don’t want to leave Kenzie but at the same time, I don’t want to miss this opportunity.

“I love you, Kenzie,” I whisper. I close my eyes and came to terms with my death.

  Annabelle

“Hmmm, another being just crossed into the afterlife. I will be right back, my dear,” my mother says to me as she disappears.

“In your return, I will be outside,” I mumble getting up and leaving out the doors. I am proud that these doors stayed put for years. I honestly thought about using magic after the first few times it broke.

I sit on the swinging bench, overlooking the river glisten beneath the suns setting rays. I eat the faux cupcake. I have been here for years knowing that everything tastes really bland. Mother explained to me that it is because I am technically still a vampire. All this after life stuff doesn’t make sense.

I choke on my cupcake recognizing the scent. I drop the cupcake and immediately turn around to find him standing there, smiling like some goofy kid.

  “Elijah?”

  “Annabelle.”

“You’re here? Like here? Here, here?”

“Yes, babe. I am here. I am finally here.”

I run up to him, kissing him hard. His lips are still the same softness, tender and full of love and passion. I guess he felt the same passion as he moans in my lips, “Oh my god, I miss you.”

  “So….can we finish upstairs?”

“Hmm, hmmm,” I smile as he lifts me up and we make way to our bedroom.

“Why did you do it?” Elijah asks me.

“Why did I link my blood to the demon?” I reply back. My fingers skim around his abs, smiling that they are still the same.

  “Yeah.”

“I figure if it was going to kill me, might as well it die. I mean my blood was the one that created the demon. I was honestly hoping it came down to that, where it killed me and it turned killed itself. But knowing destiny, I knew I had to come up with a back up plan.

So after we created the idea of the blade, I went to Grace with this plan. At first she was hell bent on not doing this but I convinced her. With our first encounter with the demon, I took some of its blood and linked it with me. Then when you guys were casting the spell I threw my blood and its blood over it, just in case.

  And then it worked.”

  “You didn’t tell me?”

“I knew you didn’t want me to do it.”

“You know how much I missed you?”

“I knew. I have watched you for many years. It pained me when you went to those bars seeking out sex, though.”

  “They weren’t any good.”

  “Really?”

“You’re telling me that you didn’t watch.”

  “Ew, no privacy dude.”

  “I love you, Annabelle.”

  “I love you too Elijah.”

He kisses my lips softly this time, still holding on to me. I do the same, finally happy and finally at peace. This...this...is what I always wanted.

  Peace and happiness.
