David cursed under his breath. “That’s just luck Ramirez.”
Lucas tossed him a look over his shoulder that let him know exactly what he thought of that.
David knew he was yanking his chains, but he had no more strategies left except to bad mouth Lucas, and hope that it would be enough of a distraction to get him to lose the game.
“Come on, Ramirez. Bring it hombre,” he smirked as he managed to land a shot that evened out his score with Lucas.
Lucas grimaced. “You’re on.”
The game continued for twenty minutes, both of them trying to beat the other, none of them succeeding. Till all of a sudden, the doorbell rang. They paused the game and stared at each other wondering who was outside.
David uncrossed his legs and hopped up to the door. He opened the door and smiled when he noticed a group of scantily clad women walk through.
One of his other teammates called out and introduced them. Kami and the other women were all huge basketball fans, and they knew everyone on the team, and everyone knew them.
They were sort of like groupies but without the obsessive part.
David let his eyes trail over Kami’s toned legs that went on for miles especially because she was wearing a micro skirt that left very little to the imagination. She had one of those tie at the front blouses that revealed part of her stomach, and when he looked at her from the back, admiring the fun curve of her ass, he noticed a tattoo peek out from underneath her skirt.
She had a tattoo on her mid lower back. A butterfly of sorts.
David smirked as he took in her large shapely breasts, and her petite curve deciding that he definitely wasn’t interested in Zombies anymore. All the blood rushed south as he made his way towards Kami.
“Hey.”
Kami turned around, an expression of mild annoyance carved onto her features until she noticed how tall he was, and her eyes paused over his copper hair, her blue eyes assessing him much like he had assessed her.
He could tell she liked what she saw because she straightened up, fluttered her eyelashes and tossed her blonde hair over her shoulders. “Hey. I haven’t seen you around before.”
“I’m new actually.”
“Is that a Scottish accent?”
Bingo.
David pretended to look sheepish at having been caught. “You’re right. I miss Scotland too much sometimes.”
“You’re from Scotland?” Her eyes grew wider, and she practically undressed him as she leaned towards him and placed her hand on his chest.
“The one and only.”
“Yo, Dave, we finishing this game or what, man?” Lucas’s annoyed voice asked as he came out of nowhere and stood behind Kami.
David glowered at him. “Now!”
“Unless you’re too chicken.” Lucas watched him carefully knowing that would get him to move. He gave Kami a smile. “Want to watch?”
Kami nodded as he grabbed her hand and headed towards the tv. This time he plopped onto the couch and placed Kami on his lap.
“For good luck,” he murmured inside her ear as he grabbed the control and clicked play. Kami watched for a while and tried to get into the game, but after a while he could tell she grew bored. She began to carefully trace his chest, marveling at how toned he was.
Her hands traveled down till they landed on his crotch. He jerked involuntarily and flashed a wry smile. Kami shrugged innocently as she wriggled her hips suggestively.
David clenched his fists around the controller so hard he was sure it would leave a mark. He could feel Kami’s eyes on him, waiting for him to make a move.
A muscle ticked in his jaw as he simply shot her a quick smile knowing that the anticipation made everything so much sweeter.
Kami frowned at him, no doubt wondering why he hadn’t already dragged her off and thrust into her so hard, she wouldn’t be able to stand up straight for a week.
Not that he didn’t want to.
He just enjoyed making her squirm in desire. It gave him more time to savor the scent of her desire, and more time to plot just how he would take her, and where, and how many times.
He bit down on the inside of his cheek until he could focus on the game once more, and Kami quietly traced his abdomen over his chest until she stopped, and out of the corner of his eye, he could see her smile, a mischievous glint in her eye.
David raised an eyebrow at her. “What’s that look for, lass?”
“Well, you seem to be so busy playing the game, I don’t think you’d mind if I got up and made myself busy.”
“Oh, really?”
Kami moved her hips once causing David to growl in the back of his throat. “What makes you think I’m not paying attention?”
Kami stared at him as if he were asking a silly question. “Your eyes are completely on the game, both your hands are on the joystick, if it weren’t for Mr. happy over here, I’d say you didn’t have a reaction to me at all.”
David shot her a quick look before he reached around and yanked her, so she was pressed up against him, he let one hand travel over her body while the other stayed on the joystick, his eyes never left the game.
His free hand was rubbing her over her shirt, causing her breasts to heave in reaction. “Does this seem like a man who isn’t paying attention?”
Kami leaned her shoulder against his, and he allowed his hand to travel down until it landed on top of her crotch. “how about now?”
Kami breathed heavily as she kissed his neck and nibbled on his ear. “Can’t argue with that.”
“Oh, really?” David whispered into her ear, letting his breath tingle her skin. He chuckled as he noticed the goosebumps rising all up and down her flesh.
“Are you almost done?”
David laughed quietly in her ear. “I am almost done actually, but see the thing is, I need to win, it’s a pride thing, so while I love driving you absolutely wild with desire, it’s good for my manly ego to win things like these then I’m going to do all sorts of wicked wild things to you all night long.”
“Is that a promise?” she purred in his ear.
“That’s a fact,” he murmured huskily.
“Is that so?”
“Is that a challenge?” One eyebrow went up as he turned to look at her, turning the full force of his cerulean blue eyes on her.
“Think you’re up to it?”
“Oh, I know I am.” He let a hint of his Scottish accent seep into his voice. “After all, lass, a wee lassie like you don’t stand a chance. I very much look forward to rising to the occasion.”
“Using your Scottish accent to cheat, are you?”
David grinned at her. “I use every weapon at my disposal.”
She leaned forward and took one lobe between her two teeth before she pressed her body against his, so he could feel her breasts pressed up against him. “So do I.”
“What’s that saying? All is fair in love and war.”
Kami’s laughter echoed in his ears, a deep husky sound. “That’s right, Scot Let’s see what you can bring to the table.”
He inclined his head in agreement, and Kami sat quietly while he played against Lucas. She moved her hand under his shirt and played with the hair on his chest. He leaned forward, so she could have better access, and he tried to keep his thoughts neutral, so he wouldn’t have a massive boner while he was trying to win otherwise he’d never focus.
“Think you can take me down, Scot?”
“I know I can, Spanish.”
“Are you going to beat me while wearing a kilt and singing songs about mountains and hills?”
David laughed. “Only if you show up ready to interrogate me like in the Spanish inquisition.”
Lucas laughed as he reached behind his back and shoved David. David shoved him back thinking that it was nice that he had made a friend on the team. When he first transferred, he wasn’t able to make friends with anyone. The only person who seemed open to even try was
Lucas. Maybe it was because Lucas was also from a different country, so he knew what it felt like to be an outsider.
Either way, he was grateful. Lucas had taught him a lot. David just thought it was a damn shame that Lucas was no longer a ladies’ man. He was one of the best, or so David had heard. He stopped right before David got transferred. On account of the fact that he discovered he had a little girl his ex-girlfriend hadn’t told him about.
He couldn’t imagine that ever happening to him.
It seemed like it was complicated and a lot of work to be a father and a boyfriend. He had never tried being a full time boyfriend. Only one a really long time ago did he try seriously dating, but after a while, they just stopped.
He was thankful it had because he liked his freedom. He loved that women knew his name, and that they screamed it frequently, in and out of the field.
He finally beat Lucas a while later, and Lucas glowered at him. “I’m sure you cheated.”
David threw his head back and laughed. “Naw, man. That was a good game.”
Lucas chuckled as he went up to him to shake his hand. “Indeed. I was just going easy on you, Scotland. Don’t want you to run back to your home country after all. The NBA needs you.”
“Yeah, sure. Whatever floats your boat,” David laughed sardonically as they shook hands. Lucas wandered off to find someone else, and David turned his attention to Kami who was licking her lips seductively.
“Well, it seems you need a reward for winning.”
“Do I now?” He placed his arm on the small of her back and gently began to massage it. Kami’s eyes fluttered as she bit down on her bottom lip.
“I think so,” she murmured huskily.
David raised an eyebrow as his hands moved up her back and rested on her shoulders. He began to knead them carefully making sure to hit all the pressure points until Kami was putty in his hands. She was practically salivating by the time he began to massage her legs.
Kami huffed in frustration as she wrapped her arms around her waist. “Are we going to stay in one place all night, or are we going to go have some real fun?”
David leaned forward. “As you say, Lassie.”
Chapter 2
Sweat was dripping down David’s face as he struggled to concentrate. There were only a few minutes left on the buzzer, and they were tied. They needed one more basket to win. He knew he wanted his team to win, but the problem was that he was cornered on all sides.
It’s like the other team knew that he was his team’s only chance of winning, and so they wouldn’t let him out of their sight. He blew a stray strand of hair out of his face as he wiped away the sweat with the back of his hand. His shirt was sticking to his back, making a pool of sweat from underneath his arms. His shorts were stuck like Velcro, and he was sure he could no longer feel his muscles. His body screamed at his top given that this was the most intense game he’d played yet, but he couldn’t stop.
Couldn’t stop till he got his team across that finish line.
His mother always sided that his stubbornness came from his inner Scott. Centuries of highlanders ran through his blood, and sometimes he wondered if maybe that was true. He was pretty sure highlanders would find this a trivial game though.
He smiled to himself at the thought before he shook his head and attempted to reel his thoughts back in. He frowned as he tried to make eye contact with any of his teammates.
He spotted Lucas, Keith and Blake all on different sides of the court. He was at a serious disadvantage. He stood on his toes trying to catch a glimpse of Lucas who was the closest to him. Lucas’s eyes met his, and they both gazed at where the ball was. Currently in the hands of his teammates, Blake who was doing his best to ditch the other team. Everytime he turned, there they were.
David and Lucas made eye contact once more, before they nodded and jogged off in the direction of Blake. Blake’s eyes snapped up, and he saw that they were standing on either side of him. He gave them a grim smile as he tossed the ball to Lucas. Lucas dribbled the ball and took it all the way till half the court before he was outnumbered.
He faked left then broke right making sure the ball landed in Keith’s hands. Keith desperately glanced around for someone to toss the ball to, and he spotted David who was right in his field of vision. The other team must’ve realized this too was for to cover him.
David smirked as he caught the ball and sent it flying through the air.
It landed with a whoosh right in the middle of the net and David fell to his knees and slammed his fists in the air as the buzzer signaled the end of the game. The cacophony of voices around him rose to a fever pitch as the world around blurred into a maze of colors.
All David could hear was the pounding of blood in his ears, and the rush of adrenaline coursing through his veins. He had never scored the winning shot before. It was a big deal to him.
He felt a group of bodies rushing towards him, and he fell to the floor with an ‘ompf’ as a group of bodies tackled him to the ground.
“Guys?” He got elbowed in the side as he was trying to wriggle out from underneath the guys who were hollering and cheering. “You might want to actually move before you crush me.”
A pair of hands grabbed his shoulders and hoisted him up, and he breathed a sigh of relief as he looked into Lucas’s eyes.
“Thanks, man.”
“No problem, dude. Congrats on scoring that winning shot. Still maintain that you cheated in Zombies though.”
“Dude you’ve got to let go of that.”
Lucas brought his hand up to his chest. “Never. You’re going down, Scotland.”
“I’m up for a challenge, Spain.”
They were interrupted when a host of other guys came swarming in, grabbing David by the shoulders, clapping him on the back and yelling out their good wishes.
David smiled as he looked around the room and quietly took it all in. The fans were all cheering and hugging each other considering it was on their turf, and the smell of salty popcorn, soda and victory hung in there.
David’s mouth went up in a half smile as he stood there. He shook his head and made his way back towards the lockers figuring he could out for a night of drinks with the guys.
He stepped into the locker room and was met with more hoots and hollers as he made his way towards the locker. He put the combination, and it swung open. He took out a change of clothes and slammed the locker door shut. He made his way towards the showers and stepped in underneath the hot shower head spray.
It cascaded in waves down his body washing away the tension as well as the sweat. He allowed it to let his muscles loosen up as he washed his body then switched off the water.
He needed to get lucky tonight.
Chapter 3
He stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around his waist, his red hair gleaming copper as it dripped water all over the white marble tiles. He made his way towards his locker and froze as he noticed a young woman standing there talking to one of his teammates.
She was tall, not as tall as him, but not average tall with curly red hair that tumbled in waves down her back. She had a tiny waist, long legs, and from what he could tell, nice cleavage. He wished she would turn around, so he could ogle the rest of her body.
As if she had somehow sensed his thoughts, she turned around, and he was struck by the depth of her sky gray eyes. Even though they were hidden behind a pair of glasses.
Sexy librarian glasses.
He frowned as he wondered why he suddenly felt as if he knew her. It was the niggling sensation in the back of his mind, and he couldn’t quite shake it off. He titled his head as he studied her thinking that if he could just put his mind to it, he’d be able to place her.
Maybe he slept with her?
No, that wasn’t. He wouldn’t be likely to forget a redhead with stunning gray eyes. She gave him a smile as she continued chatting with the teammate as he gestured towards David and nodded.
/> He came towards them with a charming smile. That’s when he noticed the bag, notebook and pen in hand.
She was a reporter.
He didn’t really care for reporters, but anyone as fine as her deserved the time of day, so he leaned against his locker and casually crossed one leg over the other. He didn’t bother taking out his clothes because he wanted her to get a full view of what was in front of her before he began the slow primal dance of seduction.
He could see that she was struggling to keep her eyes on his face and not stare at his defined six pack abs.
“Hello,” she said with a slight lilt he couldn’t place. “I’m a reporter for the New York Times, and I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions Mr. Westley.”
“Call me, David, please.”
She gave him a confused smile as she clicked her pen. “First of all congratulations on the big win tonight. Your teammates were telling me it would not have been possible to win without you.”
“It was teamwork,” he shrugged as he studied her lips. She flushed as she noticed his gaze and let her hair fall over her face.
“Have you always wanted to be in the NBA?”
“To be honest, I didn’t even know if it was possible for me up until a few months ago when I got transferred.”
She jotted that down. “Where did you get transferred from?”
“I played for this local team in Scotland. I doubt you’ll have heard of them. Anyway, I got lucky because there was a talent scout who was at one of the games, probably more out of boredom than anything else, but he saw me play and offered me a job. A few weeks later, I was on a first class plane to America.”
She looked surprised for a second as her pen hovered over the notebook. She gazed up at him. “Did you say you’re from Scotland?”
He nodded. “I did.”
“Edinburgh?” she guessed as she pushed her glasses up her nose.
“How’d you guess?” Surprise laced his tone as one corner of his mouth quirked up into an amused smile.
“Your accent,” she pointed out. “Also, I’m from Inverness.”
