There was a light tap on the door and then Steven poked his head in. “Are you decent?”
“I am.”
The door opened farther and Steven led his grandfather into the room. “I hate hospitals. I could’ve waited until you two went home.”
“Hi, Jasper,” Darcy greeted.
Jasper came over to the bed and Darcy pulled the sweet baby from her shoulder and turned her around so he could see her.
“She’s as cute as a button. And a full head of hair.”
“Which explains the heartburn.” Darcy laughed.
“That’s what they say. I think my Annie had that when she was pregnant with your father,” Jasper said to Steven. “So, Steven wouldn’t tell me her name. Haven’t you two picked one yet?”
“We have,” Steven said.
“I hope it isn’t one of those weird names you young people choose these days.”
Darcy smiled. “I think you’ll like it. We named her Anna Jane.”
She watched Jasper closely as it sunk it.
“We plan to call her Annie, if that’s okay with you,” Steven added.
Jasper grinned and Darcy swore she saw his eyes get wet. “I think it’s a beautiful name, and I’d love it if you called her that.” He took a deep breath. “Could I hold Annie?”
Darcy held the baby out to him, and he took her and held her close. “Well, little Annie, I expect you’ll be a sweet little girl. And you’d better be so these two will give me many more of you.”
“Not anytime soon.” Darcy looked at Steven.
He grinned at her and then leaned forward and placed a kiss on her cheek. “I love you, Darcy.”
“I love you too.”
