Grace Alive: a Christian Romance

“Clare! I’m so sorry! What happened?” She came to my side. I was rinsing my mouth out as Willow continued to rub my back.
“Tacos.” I lifted my head. “Do you have any mints?”
Paige rummaged through her tiny purse and produced Altoids. Thank God! I shoved two in my mouth as Willow brushed my hair back from my forehead.
“You’re sweating, Clare,” she said with concern. She was the little mother of our group.
“It’s just nerves. I’ll be fine after I calm down.”
Paige pulled out a water bottle and thrust it into my hand. “Drink.”
I gulped the water down and ate seven more mints before my stomach began to settle.
“It was that guy wasn’t it,” Willow’s soft voice said.
“I don’t know, maybe. I shouldn’t have had tacos today.” I drew in several deep breaths. My friends looked at me with compassion.
“Clare, we know how you get around hot guys. It’s okay. We all say stupid stuff sometimes,” Willow said. I slowly nodded, letting my curls cover my red face.
“Do you want to go back to youth group?” Paige asked. I handed her the water bottle and the mints that were almost gone.
“Yeah, I’m okay now.” We walked out together, our arms around each other. Youth group was insane. I could hear shouting and erratic laughter coming from the room. Did I want to go back into that lions’ den?
