My Secrets Your Lies

“Thanks, Sand. I want to look fashionably presentable for a meeting I have with a very important new client of mine.”

Sand stared at Chyna. She was sexy. That couldn’t be denied. The way she talked, the way she walked. Everything about her was sexy. But Chyna was fire, and Sand knew it was going to take more than some computer skills and a business degree to do what she needed to do, and that was to beat Chyna at her own game and give payback.

Sand spent the few hours Chyna left her alone thinking about her next move. She had to calculate things carefully if she wanted to make sure Rene stayed safe and unharmed. It was obvious that Chyna was not the only player in this field, and Sand had better be sure she knew everyone’s positions, including her own.

  * * *

At 11:34 p.m., Chyna pulled up in a pearl-white Lexus. She knew from the way Rene was standing that the girl was scared shitless about meeting so late and at such an unusual place. The wind was bone chilling, and while Rene was trying to keep warm in her thin jacket, Chyna was hotter than grease in a sizzling skillet. One glimpse of Rene and her mind thought nasty thoughts. This was her first time seeing Rene up this close and personal. And if seeing her from a distance did as much as it did for her now, she couldn’t wait to see the reaction she would have once she was face-to-face with the young tenderoni. Chyna stepped out of the car nice and slow, throwing her mink on over her dress.

Rene had spotted the Lexus the second it pulled up. She knew then that it had to be the woman she had spoken to over the phone. After seeing her get out of the car, she decided the woman didn’t look as threatening as her voice made her seem. But she still couldn’t help but think that Chyna had to be messed up in the head to suggest such a crazy place to meet. Rene’s guard came down a little. Hell, what am I scared of? she thought. Realizing how her hands had been shaking, Rene stuffed them into her pockets. She was no longer petrified, but just in case the bitch was crazy, she gripped a full container of pepper spray, ready to aim and shoot if the situation got out of control.

“Hello. I’m glad you were able to meet with me tonight.” Chyna undressed Rene with her eyes. Damn, she thought. Why would such a pretty feminine female want a butch bitch like Sand?

“Look, half that money is spent, if that’s what this is about.”

Chyna was still admiring Rene’s sexiness. She had to catch herself and remember this was business. “No, no. That’s not what this is about. I don’t want your money, honey. I just want to ask you a few questions and see if you can help me recover mine. That’s all.”

Rene looked at Chyna, trying to remember where she had seen her face before.

“You see, Albery owes me for a job he didn’t complete. He also owes me for a job he didn’t start. Now that his ass is sitting on millions of dollars, he has the nerve to up and retire on me.”

Rene was lost and wondered how any of this could involve her. She saw herself as being no help and was curious if Sand had anything to do with this woman coming here, after all.

“I don’t think I can help you. . . . Uh, what was your name again?”

Chyna raised her brow a bit. “Some call me Chyndra, but you can call me Chyna.”

“Okay, Chyna. As I was saying, I don’t think I can help you find what you’re looking for.”

“I think you can. As a matter of fact, your girl knows you can,” Chyna reminded her. She hoped Rene would reflect on the words in the letter that she had written herself and had hand delivered right to her best friend’s doorstep.

  “What?”

“She assured me that you would be most helpful in assisting me in a timely manner.”

Rene looked around, checking her surroundings and listening for any trains. Why did we have to meet up on the railroad tracks? she thought.

“Look, all I need for you to do is make a small transaction. One time is all it would take.”

Rene looked back up at Chyna. Chyna saw the uncertainty planted on her face.

“I’ll tell you like this, Ma. You do this thing here for me, and you and Sand will be given the best life has to offer. I’ll even throw in an incentive.” She lifted her brow and batted her eyelashes. “This is a sweet deal, honey,” she added, while overworking her brain as she thought about the money she could make off Rene if she joined her team.

Chyna was determined to psyche Rene up. The longer Rene took to answer, the more irritated Chyna grew, as she was hardly giving Rene an option.

Rene thought for a second. “And what would that incentive be?”

Chyna grinned. “That’s for me to know and you to find out.”

“How much are we talking that he owes you?”

“Let’s just say the numbers are up, and it’s tax season.”

“So, if I do this for you, you’ll pay me off and Sand will come back home to me?”

  “That’s what it is.”

Rene stopped for a moment to gather her thoughts. That was what she and Sand needed, a break like this, because she knew the money she had pinched from Johnson and Johnson would take them only so far. Chyna’s proposal sounded like it would afford them more security.

“All right. What have I got to lose? The son of a bitch tried to fire me on some bullshit, anyway.” This was the perfect revenge, to empty his bank account to a negative zero. She laughed inside at the thought. She remembered the last time she had balanced the books: his company’s account had had over six million dollars. What it was like now, she couldn’t wait to see. “I’ll do it.”

“That’s my girl. In the meantime, here’s a cell phone. It can only receive incoming calls. Only I have the number. I’ll contact you when everything is set up. Now, to the right of you, over there under that rock, there’s an envelope with your name on it. You can thank me later. Until then, you better get off these tracks. A train is coming.” Rene didn’t hear a train. Then suddenly the loud sound was banging in her ears.

  Choo-chooooo!

She hopped off the tracks so quick, hoping she hadn’t peed on herself.

Chyna smiled as she walked back to her car, all the while knowing she had proven her point.

Rene headed for the envelope. She lifted the rock, picked up the envelope, and tore at it eagerly to see what was inside. “Five thousand dollars!” She stuffed the money into her purse and couldn’t get in her car fast enough. As she cranked up her engine and drove off, she neglected to notice the red Honda that had been trailing her all week.
