First Love

  As we left the restaurant and returned to campus, Rob and Sam took off for a walk and Eric took me to back to the room.

  When we entered the room, he pulled me into his arms and lightly kissed me, “Happy Birthday, Emily.”

  I smiled, “Thank you, Handsome.” I walked over to his window and looked up at the moon.

  “Emily, please tell what is on your mind.”

  I took a deep breathe as I turned around and looked into his eyes, I was lost in them as always.

  He put his hands on my shoulders, “Whatever it is, tell me.”

  I softly said, “I’m pregnant, Eric. I know this changes everything. I know you must be so upset right now. How are we going to handle this? What about football? What about your parents? What about my parents?” I stopped and just watched his face change. I couldn’t read it, “Please say something.”

  He looked at the floor but slowly looked up into my eyes, “Marry me, Emily.”

  I couldn’t breathe, he didn’t overact, he didn’t scream at me, he proposed to me again. I tried to catch my breath as my thoughts raced through my head. Through the tears, I responded,

  “Yes.”
