She felt some form of relief at the fact that Andre took on her troubles and that he was there ready to fight for her, to protect her. She wasn’t alone in this. He cared deeply about her. And that gave her enough reassurance. He had “her back” and she loved him for that.

Soon after he’d given her a soft, hot kiss of reassurance he grabbed his keys and left. He had told her that room service should be up soon with breakfast.

Minutes passed and the doorbell sounded. She got up and walked over to the door, tightening the belt on her silk robe. “Who is it?” she answered, sounding more drained than she had intended to.

  “Room service, ma’am.”

She opened the door and before she could do anything the man in the dark suit made a lunge for her. He grabbed her with his strong heavy arm holding her tight as he placed his hand around her mouth. He kicked the door shut with his foot then told her not to scream, or else. She nodded, tears streaming down her face, she felt her bladder weaken, and her knees were like jelly.

She panted as she turned around and took a look at the tall, dark and dangerously handsome waiter. Only he wasn’t a waiter. It was…

  “Gustav?”

“I’m sorry to have alarmed you but there was no other way to do this,” he said in a smooth charming voice, his eyes scanning the environment. He looked more like a James Bond character than a waiter.

“What are you doing here?” She huffed. Her blood was boiling now. How the hell could he have gotten past Andre’s security team? Then it dawned on her. He was the one who had her under surveillance, wasn’t he? But why? Who was he, really?

“Before you say anything,” Gustav looked around as he walked in further with Hannah holding her arm firmly.

Gustav strangely enough looked more dashing than she had remembered. He had dark blond short-cropped hair and deep blue, green eyes and that bad boy stubble. That was one of the reasons she didn’t mind helping him to get his green card in exchange for a having a baby with him in wedlock. But then it all went downhill from there, didn’t it? He was a fraud and a no-show at their wedding.

“Before you say anything, how dare you come back after leaving me at the altar?” she growled.

“Well, you’re not exactly the perfect bride, fucking the best man before the ceremony…” he answered in a matter-of-fact tone of voice. A grin touched the corner of his full lips.

Hannah’s breath stopped. She felt her heart take a plunge. Okay, so he technically had a point. But...

  “You were already married.”

“Did you know that before you fucked, Andre?” he said in a cool breath as he reached into his breast pocket of his dark suit. He was very tall, much taller than Andre and certainly firm built, his muscles, she remembered when he was shirtless were well ripped and his shoulders nice and broad.

  But his accent…it was gone!

“What happened to your accent? I thought you were Russian. You sound American.”

He showed her a badge of some sort and Hannah felt as if she was going to collapse. It was from her home country, the principality of Melipos. One of the smallest nations in the Mediterranean next to Monaco.

The gold, sparkling badge had several numbers engraved on it. His photo identification and name were clear inside his expensive-looking leather badge wallet.

She covered her mouth with her hand as shock spread through her body like wild fire. She read the initials in her mind and knew what they meant.

  M.S.S.A.

  Melipos Secret Service Agent.

Gustav was an undercover federal agent from her country.
