“Go run the water.” Summer said it with a big sigh, but I could tell by the flush on her cheeks that she was almost as turned on as I was. “I guess I’ll spend the evening with you.”
“We passed evening about an hour ago, sweetheart. I thought those guys would never get the fucking furniture put together.” I grabbed the baby monitor and took it with me into the bathroom. Earlier, Summer had laughed at me when I made the prospects test the limits of the monitors range. I had them all the way out in the street before Bear reported that he couldn’t hear Stoffer’s voice singing Ninety-Nine Bottles of Beer from inside the closed door of the nursery.
“How much longer will the guys be downstairs?” Summer asked when I came back into the bedroom.
“I’m not sure. I’ll make sure to muffle your screams when you have a mind-blowing orgasm.”
“Oh, thank you, darling. The things you’re willing to do for me.”
I moved onto the bed, one of my knees resting between her legs, almost to her crotch.
“You are so fucking beautiful, Summer.”
“Now I know you really are mental.”
“I’m not playing. You’re beautiful. Your breasts are perfect. I want to lube them up and put my dick between them.”
“Well, now that’s something I’ve never experienced before. Do you think my tongue would reach the tip while you were doing that?”
I groaned.
“What else do you like about me?”
“I like your hips. And that ass.” I ran my hands down her sides and smiled when she jumped as I hit a ticklish spot. I grasped her hips in my hands and pulled her pelvis up, rubbing her core against my thigh. “God, baby. Your ass is fantastic.”
“So, you’re not only bat shit crazy, but blind as well.”
“Get up and take your clothes off. I want to get you in the bathtub and feel every inch of you against me.”
“Will you still like all of that when I’m big and pregnant? When my feet are swollen and my boobs are tender? After I have the baby and my boobs turn into an around the clock buffet and I don’t want you to touch them?”
I moved down and put my feet on the floor so I could rain kisses across her belly.
“I’ll like all of that, sweetheart. And I’ll get as much of your tits as I can now, so I won’t be jealous of the kid for stealing my toys. I’ll enjoy all of you that I can, and when you’re pregnant and round with my baby in you, I’ll enjoy whatever you are willing to give me.”
“You know one thing about being pregnant that is pretty cool? Well, two things, actually.”
“You’re growing a human that will come out and be treated like a king? Or queen.”
“Well, besides that. When my hormones are raging, I get so horny I could rub myself on the arm of the couch and get off.” I growled at her words, my dick getting even harder. “The other thing is that no matter what, I can’t get more pregnant. So, we can do whatever we want and enjoy the hell out of it. It will make up for the six weeks afterward that I can’t have sex. I’ve thought about it all evening, and decided I want to stop the condoms.”
“Do you really want this, Sunshine? Tell me.” I had to get serious for a second. I wanted to make sure she wasn’t feeling any pressure from me.
“I actually do, Bird. At first it scared the hell out of me, the thought that I might be pregnant.” Summer sat up and then stood in front of me. She got a few inches shorter as she held onto my biceps and stepped out of her heels. “The more I thought about it, the more I remembered that I loved being pregnant. I loved having a tiny baby in my arms. I loved to rock with him and sing to him while I nourished him at my breast. Some women want to rule the world. I just want to have babies and love them.”
Summer took her top off and I reached around her to unhook her bra as she continued speaking.
“I’m taking all of this on faith, Bird. I’m following my heart, but my head knows that I can it do by myself if you ever leave me.” She put her hand up to stop me when I opened my mouth to argue. “I’m not dooming us to fail, Bird. I’m not saying you’re going to ditch me. I’m being realistic. John was a boring guy who wore a suit every day and worked with numbers. His idea of fun was taking his book and binoculars out and bird watching for hours. John died in a random car accident on a route that he drove twice a day for years. My stepfather died when a brand-new piece of machinery exploded for no reason. It killed him instantly. He walked out of the house that morning making plans for that evening with his kids. You live a life where you have guns hidden in the kitchen cabinet and call in your minions to kidnap drug dealers from the park. You ride a motorcycle at warp speed down the highway with a smile on your face. Our life together could end in a single heartbeat, but I’m going to enjoy the fuck out of it until it does.”
Summer turned around and walked toward the bathroom, dropping her pants down and kicking them off her feet as she walked.
“Now, come on and get in the bathtub. When we’re done, I want you to lay in bed so I can sit on your lap backwards and fuck you until your screams are loud enough to wake the baby.”

I pulled Summer’s foot up onto my chest and started rubbing it. She groaned and smiled; her head laid back on the tub with her eyes closed.
“Smokey told me about the day he met your Mom.”
“He did? Yeah. I remember that day.”
“You do? You were five?”
“Almost six. Yeah. I remember seeing the little boy fall down and Mama scooped him up like she always did for me and Clem.” I was looking down at her foot, and the brief flashes of memory from that day came back to me. “That was the first night we got to sleep in the bed with Mom.”
“That was a new thing? My boys always crawl into bed with me. I guess I should give you a heads up about that now, huh?”
“Noted. Yeah. We weren’t allowed to leave our room after she put us to bed. I know now it was because of my Father. He was abusive and he drank, but I don’t remember hearing anything or seeing any bruises on her.”
“That’s horrible. He didn’t hurt you guys then?”
“No. Well, only once. I came out of my bedroom because I didn’t feel good. My Father had my Mom by the throat and was holding her against the wall. Her face was purple. I ran in and tried to help her. He yanked me back and broke my arm. She got away and took me to the bedroom and held the door so he couldn’t get in. We left that night. That’s the only memory I have of my Father.”
“Oh, honey. That’s horrible.”
“I guess he passed out or whatever. My arm was killing me, but I had fallen asleep next to Clem. Mama woke me up and made me carry a bag with my good arm. We went out to the car and she snuck in and out a few more times to bring things and put them in the trunk.” I looked up and saw that Summer’s eyes were open and she was studying me. “We drove until the sun was up and then she pulled into a hospital and they put my arm in a cast. In the car she coached me to tell the doctors that I hurt it playing at the park. When it was done, we got in the car and kept driving. Finally, the car died. She was able to pull it into a parking lot. She left us outside waiting in the car while she went in. When she came out, she had a job. We slept in the car for a while. I’m not sure how long. Before her shift, she would take us in the bathroom and wash us in the sink. She would get us dressed, and we would sit in the corner booth while she worked. When she got off work, we would go to the park down the street and play until it got dark. Then, we would go back to sleep in the car.”
“Oh, my God, Bird. That’s so sad.”
“It worked out though. It wasn’t too long before she met Smokey. He bought the place that day and the old owners had moved out of the apartment upstairs. He walked past our car as he was leaving and could tell we had been living in it. He went back into the diner and gave her the apartment key. We didn’t go to the park that afternoon, we went to the little apartment upstairs. We ran around like we were crazy. It was empty, and we ran in circles and flipped a
round while she sat on the floor and laughed at us. A little bit later someone knocked, and she shushed us and made us go in the bathroom. Turns out it was Smokey and his best friend Bill. They brought another friend, Tink, and one of the younger guys, Grunt. They had all gotten their women together and gathered up towels and bedding, pots and pans. House stuff. Grunt carried in a bed and they put the mattress on the floor in the bedroom, which was a perfect trampoline, by the way. That night, we slept in bed with Mama for the first time. We played in the parking lot with Kale and Daughtry, and their friends Sam, Zeke and Jace.”
I looked back at Summer and saw that she was crying silently.
“Everything about what your Dad told me this afternoon, and what you’ve told me now, makes me in awe of both of your parents and what you boys have become.”
“Yeah. Especially Kale. He watched his Mom get murdered. The two of them had it so much worse than us.”
“I don’t think it’s a competition, but even if it was, there wouldn’t be a winner.”
“True.”
“So, tell me what you guys were like as boys.”
“We were holy terrors. Teachers cried when they found out we were going to be in their class.”
“Wow. That is bad.”
“We were fun. Nothing too illegal or too bad. Cussing and fighting. Same shit we all do now. What were you like?”
“I was quiet. I got good grades. Had a lot of friends.”
“So, you were a goody goody?”
“Yeah, kind of.”
“I bet you were hot.”
“I was chubby then too.”
“So, I guess you were one of those girls that wanted to look like a stick?”
“A stick?”
“A popsicle stick. No curves, nothing.”
“Maybe less curves would be okay. Not so much a popsicle.”
“I only like frozen popsicles. Not female ones.”
“Good to know.”
“I think I might have some in the freezer. I bet I can find something good to do with them.”
“You’re such a dork.” I could tell she was thinking about what I had said. “Okay, maybe.”
I laughed at her.
“Come on, baby. Take me to bed. I’ve been thinking about this all afternoon. I want to be inside you.”
Summer groaned. “When you talk like that it makes my knees week.”
“Does it make you wet?”
“Well, duh. I’m in a bathtub.” I growled at her and she laughed. “Okay. Yeah. Maybe.”
~*~
I held myself up above Summer, poised at her entrance. I had given her two orgasms with my hands and mouth already, and she was flushed and sweaty, begging me to push inside her. I felt like I should slow things down for a second. As much as I wanted to feel her heat surround me, skin to skin, I felt like I should make sure everything was set first.
“Sunshine. Look at me.” Her eyes fluttered and her hands moved through my hair and down my neck. “Look at me.”
She opened her eyes and looked into mine. “I want this. I want you.”
I slowly pushed into her, groaning at the feeling of her pussy fluttering around me. I pulled back out just a little and then fully seated myself inside her. She moved her legs and then tilted her hips, taking just a little bit more.
“You feel so good.” I kissed her, remaining still inside her as our passion built up again. “I can’t wait to come inside you.”
“You’ve got to move, Bird.” Summer wiggled her hips. “Fuck me.”
I did exactly as she asked, but I did it slowly and thoroughly, making it last. Making it memorable. As if she could sense what I was feeling, Summer kept her eyes on mine. Her hands roamed my chest and curved around my back to pull my ass in closer to her at each thrust.
Before long, I was shaking with need. My movements were faster and rougher, and I could tell by the noises she was making she was enjoying this as much as I was. I felt her put her hand between us and start to touch herself. Within just a minute, her walls started to tighten. Her breathing quickened and she squeezed me tight inside her as she screamed my name. One more thrust and I was joining her, twitching inside her body. Emptying myself with a loud shout, hoping that we had created a child together.
“I love you, Bird.” I heard her whisper right before her breathing evened out and she fell asleep.
“I love you too, Sunshine.” I let my weight drop down beside her and pulled her tight against me as I tried to catch my breath. I heard some movement through the monitor, and just as I closed my eyes Lark whimpered.
I untangled my limbs from Summer’s and left the bed. I grabbed a pair of boxers from the drawer and stepped into them as I grabbed the monitor and silently left our bedroom.
I went next door to the nursery and saw that Lark was awake, fidgeting in her little sleep sack that Summer had bought for her today.
“Hello, my baby bird. Are you wet and hungry?” Lark cooed at me and I took that as agreement. I moved her over to the changing table on the other side of the room and cleaned her up and redressed her. “Let’s go see if the guys are still here and get you a warm bottle while I drink a cold one. What do you say?”
Lark cooed again and I looked down into her eyes. “I love you, baby bird.”

“If I lived every day like it was my last day on earth, the body count would be staggering.”

I put one more load of baby things in the washing machine and picked up the basket of clean clothes to fold and put away. Bird and the guys were moving things around in the garage, trying to make room for the rest of the things that needed to come out of the rooms upstairs before I moved the boy’s furniture in this afternoon.
I had spent a quiet morning with Lark while Bird worked with the guys, and to be honest, I was enjoying the hell out of it.
Right about the time I was scheduled to be at work, I called HR and requested a leave of absence due to a family emergency. Later today, I would send them a certified letter with my resignation and a formal complaint about Dan’s behavior. Well, Bird’s lawyer was going to be sending those things for me. The complaint was put in motion by Bird when he spoke to Marcus, his lawyer. I found out that Marcus was drafting the letter for me when Bird walked in and handed me the phone so that I could answer some questions Marcus had.
At first I was reluctant, but then I realized that none of the other women were as lucky as I am. They have to put up with that man’s shit every day for the same reasons I always had. Most people can’t just up and quit their job. If it wasn’t for the crazy events in my life in the last twenty-four hours, I would be at work right now biting my tongue to keep my mouth shut.
While I was on the phone with Marcus, he had also asked for my information and all the information for my sons, so that we could be added to Bird’s health insurance immediately after the wedding. I was lucky to have healthy children, but it was never a good idea to go without insurance. With four children under the age of five, accidents and illness were bound to happen. I wasn’t willing to risk it.
As I neared the stairs, the side door opened and I waited to see who was coming in. It was Martha, Bird’s Mom. I had only met her less than twenty-four hours ago, and I wasn’t sure what to say to her. ‘Hello, I’m the one-night stand that turned into a fiancé after only three days’ didn’t seem like a good opening line for a good relationship.
Instead, I settled for a smile and a nice, “Hello.”
“Good morning, sweetheart. Do you mind if I visit for a while?”
“Of course not! I was headed upstairs to fold some laundry and put it away. The baby should be up soon, if you’re here to visit her.”
“I was here to visit with you actually, the baby is an added bonus.”
I cringed. Yeah, I was glad I didn’t go with that opening line about the one-night stand.
“Of course.” I moved to sit on the c
ouch, but Martha put her hand up to stop me.
“Oh, don’t let me stop you from your chores. I’ll come up and help, if that’s okay.”
“I will never say no to help folding laundry. It’s a never-ending job.”
“I remember when the boys were little. I did at least two loads, sometimes more, every day. It was exhausting.”
Martha started up the steps beside me. She looked down at the tape Bear had put down in a line on the stairs but didn’t comment. I had no idea what Bear had been measuring out earlier, and when I asked Bear what it was for, he only told me that it was Bird’s orders.
