Our Broken Pieces

I’D LIKE TO thank my family for being supportive during this process. It couldn’t have been easy to see me come home from a day at the office and sit down to a night at the computer. You guys loved me and gave me the time to follow this dream and share this story. I love you all so much. I hope you are as proud of it as I am.
THANK YOU TO all the family who live outside my house who stepped up to offer support and encouragement. Many of you were the first to read this story and offer feedback. You always asked for the latest news and celebrated each success with me, making it that much sweeter.
JAIME ANGELL, I’M not even sure where to begin thanking you. I will forever be grateful to the universe for giving me a chair in your English class. Today I consider you one of my most treasured friends. When I came to you years ago with the idea of entering a writing contest, you never once made me feel like I couldn’t do it. You gave me your free time to support my effort, and with you in my corner I believed I could win—and I did. Since then you have supported me in both careers and outside of them as well. Thank you, my friend.
CHRISTINA ZELLER, I’M thanking you in the back of this story because you did something for me that warmed my heart. You took an interest in my story, read it with enthusiasm, and insisted you take me out to celebrate my book deal. You told me women don’t always do enough of that for each other, and you were right. So I’m thanking you for being a great friend and fellow woman. You rock. Our boys are awesome, and we will always be fun room moms even if we pull things together last minute. That’s just how we work best.
THANK YOU, CHRISTINE Witthohn, for believing in me. I can’t wait to celebrate many more successes with you in the future. I love being a part of your Book Cents family. Without your guidance and hard work on my behalf, this would not have happened. I feel very lucky for the opportunity to be represented by you.
A SPECIAL THANK-YOU to Catherine Wallace and the entire team at HarperTeen for seeing something in Everly and Gabe’s story. It’s been an amazing experience! I’m looking forward to continuing to work with you and share more stories of loss, love, friendship, and healing.
I HAVE TO give a shout-out to Jo Watson. You have become my friend over the last few years since starting this crazy journey together. I can’t wait to see where it takes us. You’re a brilliant author and a magnificent friend. I know when I need support you’re just a few clicks away with your adorable accent and brightly colored hair and shoes. Thank you.
