by Michael Savage

Now, more than at any time in our history, we’re in danger of losing our freedom and our national identity to the gang of Marxist thugs who have taken over our government. This administration will stop at nothing to exert total control over every aspect of our lives: It promises to sentence all of us to life without parole in the cradle-to-grave prison that is Marxism.

Yes, Lady Liberty has been poisoned with the cancerous toxins of liberalism. Left unchecked, her voice will be silenced and her shining beacon of hope and freedom will be forever extinguished. And, while the country that our forefathers fought and died for may be hanging in the balance, that doesn’t necessarily mean America is destined to go out with a whimper.

  Can America be saved?

I believe it can. Not easily, mind you.

If we seize this moment and do the hard thing, I believe our best and brightest days are ahead of us. Why? Because American exceptionalism is hardwired into our Constitution and I believe in the resilience of our people. However, for America to survive the infestation of radical liberalism, we must turn the stethoscope on ourselves and admit that we’ve been apathetic when we should have been outraged.

We’ve been indifferent when we should have been alarmed.

We’ve been sluggish when vigilance was called for.

Yes, America’s patriots have been complacent when we should have been on the offensive. How else can you explain that a naked Marxist sits in the Oval Office and his czars, like termites, are gnawing away at the foundations upon which this country was built? As I wrote in my bestseller Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder, we will not have a nation unless the sheeple awaken to the reality that America has become pacified; America has become feminized; and America is being compromised from without and within. Yes, it’s time we fought back.

  What’s the solution?

We need a revolution at the ballot box. That’s number one.

That’s why the elections of 2010 and 2012 are of paramount importance. We must throw out these Marxist-Leninist betrayers as fast as possible before there’s nothing left of the country. While I’m not the only voice calling for that change in political leadership, I’m the only one in talk radio who freely admits we don’t need just a change of party—as some counterfeit conservatives have said. The last thing we want are the phony Republican Bush-ites who got us into this trouble to begin with.

No, we need a conservative revolution at the ballot box.

The question is, where will it come from?

It has to be the leaders within the Tea Party movement. They are the ones who should run for office. Likewise, when conservatives seek to represent us, they must hold fast to an agenda that limits the size and role of the government, protects America’s borders, language, and culture, and remains true to the vision first cast by our Founding Fathers as elucidated in the Constitution.

The Tea Party knows that, to reverse trickle up poverty, we cannot afford to lose sight of the fact that the government works for us, not the other way around.

President Calvin Coolidge put it this way:

I want the people of America to be able to work less for the government and more for themselves. I want them to have the rewards of their own industry. This is the chief meaning of freedom. Until we can reestablish a condition under which the earnings of the people can be kept by the people, we are bound to suffer a very severe and distinct curtailment of our liberty.1

While I’ve pointed out a number of problems in this book, every one of them is solvable. An individual still has the freedom and power to address his grievances. Don’t give up just because the checked-pants Republicans aren’t motivated to lead the charge. You, as an American citizen, can do much to change the future of America. And, when we band together, as the Tea Party has done, we galvanize our individual voices into a deafening roar. I commend everyone who is part of the Tea Party’s effort to hold Congress accountable with its 10-point “Contract From America”:

  1. Protect the Constitution: Require each bill to identify the specific provision of the Constitution that gives Congress the power to do what the bill does.

  2. Reject Cap and Trade: Stop costly new regulations that would increase unemployment, raise consumers prices, and weaken the nation’s global competitiveness with virtually no impact on global temperatures.

  3. Demand a Balanced Budget: Begin the Constitutional amendment process to require a balanced budget with a two-thirds majority needed for any tax hike.

  4. Enact Fundamental Tax Reform: Adopt a simple and fair single-rate tax system by scrapping the internal revenue code and replacing it with one that is no longer than 4,543 words—the length of the original Constitution.

  5. Restore Fiscal Responsibility and Constitutionally Limited Government in Washington: Create a Blue Ribbon task force that engages in a

complete audit of federal agencies and programs, assessing their Constitutionality, and identifying duplication, waste, ineffectiveness, and agencies and programs better left for the states or local authorities, or ripe for wholesale reform or elimination due to our efforts to restore limited government consistent with the U.S. Constitution’s meaning.

  6. End Runaway Government Spending: Impose a statutory cap limiting the annual growth in total federal spending to the sum of the inflation rate plus the percentage of population growth.

  7. De-Fund, Repeal, and Replace Government-Run Health Care: De-fund, repeal, and replace the recently passed government-run health care with a system that actually makes health care and insurance more affordable by enabling a competitive, open, and transparent free-market health care and health insurance system that isn’t restricted by state boundaries.

  8. Pass an “All-of-the-Above” Energy Policy: Authorize the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries and reduce regulatory barriers to all other forms of energy creation, lowering prices and creating competition and jobs.

  9. Stop the Pork: Place a moratorium on all earmarks until the budget is balanced, and then require a two-thirds majority to pass any earmark.

  10. Stop the Tax Hikes: Permanently repeal all tax hikes, including those to the income, capital gains and death taxes, currently scheduled to begin in 2011.2

This list is a good place start. Every one of these initiatives is something we can and should get behind. But it’s incomplete. In a moment, I’ll offer a number of other solutions and steps that must be taken to reverse trickle up poverty and save the middle class from Obama’s tyranny. Before I do, let me say that the Tea Party’s call to preserve the Constitution resonates strongly with me. President Obama demonstrates a shameless disregard for that precious document and the procedures of governing that it outlines.

Speaking of a shameless disregard for the Constitution, there’s no clearer example than what this member of Team Obama expressed. Regarding the passage of ObamaCare, Representative Phil Hare (D-IL) said, “I don’t worry about the Constitution.”3 And you wonder why America is in trouble?

This is why I believe all candidates for public office must pledge not only to uphold the Constitution, but to demonstrate that they know what’s in it!

Are you starting to get the picture?

Every time this president can’t have his way through the legitimate, prescribed, constitutional process of passing laws, he bypasses it. He is not an emperor who can do whatever the hell he wants—in spite of his delusions of grandeur. Barack Obama’s Marxist-Leninist view of America, his hard-left march toward socialism, his spread-the-wealth-around nonsense, and his disregard for our Constitution must be stopped. How can we keep America from becoming financially, morally, and ethically bankrupt? How do we retain our place as a shining light to the world? Conservative patriots must return America to the core principles that made this country great using both the Contract From America coupled with these sensible, doable solutions found in The Savage Manifesto:

  1. English Only: Make English the official language of the
United States. Require all who immigrate to our country to begin immediately to learn English as part of the requirement to qualify for the privilege of American citizenship. Likewise, require voting ballots to be written in English only.

  2. Close the Borders: Use illegal aliens to build a wall between the United States and Mexico. Hire Sheriff Joe Arpaio to oversee the project. Pay the illegals for their labor in the form of a one-time worker fee. Upon finishing, repatriate them.

  3. Defend the Borders: Pull the troops out of Germany and South Korea where they’re doing nothing and put them on our southern border where there’s a real threat to our citizens. Defending South Korea can be done with our ships and subs with their tactical nuclear weapons.

  4. De-Fund and Repeal ObamaCare: Remember how the Schecter Brothers overturned FDR’s socialism? Sue on the grounds of religious freedom. Use Schecter Brothers strategy from chapter five.

  5. Reduce the Size and Scope of Government: The Federal Government is bloated. With the exception of the military and defense, reduce all departments in size by 4 percent each year, for a total reduction of size by 16 percent over four years. Require government employees to speak English and to have achieved at least a high school diploma.

  6. Liquidate TARP: It’s time to abandon and repeal the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), a government bailout program used to stabilize the financial sector. Use repaid TARP funds and funds that haven’t been spent to reduce the federal debt.

  7. Oil for Illegals: Mexico has what we want (oil), and we have something they don’t want (their unemployed citizens). To offset this alien invasion, Mexico should pay one barrel of oil per month per illegal alien that sneaks into our country. Americans are also owed tens of billions of dollars in reparations from Mexico for the generous free health care, welfare, and ACLU-care they’ve received for five decades.

  8. Strike Down Anchor Babies Law: Eliminate the loophole in our law that encourages illegal immigrants to enter this country for the purpose of having “anchor babies” who are U.S. citizens simply because they happened to have been born in our hospitals.

  9. Export Jailed Illegal Aliens: Our federal, state, and local jails are overcrowded with 2,396,002 inmates as of 2008.4 Of that number, 29 percent are illegal aliens! They don’t even belong here, yet we’re paying an average of $29,000 per year to house, feed, clothe, and entertain them.5 Send them back to their country of origin.

  10. Fire Janet Napolitano: Pressure Janet Napolitano to be removed from office. She has demonstrated her incompetence in Homeland Security, she’s failing to uphold the illegal immigration laws already on the books, and she has suspended the construction of a fence along the border—despite the fact that federal law mandates it.

  11. Use Profiling to Prevent Terror Attacks: The attempted terrorist plots on our own soil follow a definite pattern. All these acts were carried out by radical Muslims. Shrewd police work requires common sense. If acts of terror repeatedly come from people who practice a certain religion, and, if all these acts are in accord with some twisted notion of their holy book, prudent police work would dictate that we immediately employ national—if not religious—profiling to stop the next terrorist before he or she succeeds.

  12. Name the Enemy: Identify radical Islam as the enemy. Demand that Attorney General Eric Holder stops scrubbing federal policies and communications of truly descriptive words such as “terrorist” and “jihad” and

“Islam” and start telling it like it is. Furthermore, don’t extend the rights guaranteed to American citizens to enemy combatants. Don’t prosecute them in civilian courts.

  13. Rewrite the Rules of Engagement: The ROE should match the real world that our troops face on the ground rather than the politically correct virtual world the bureaucrats live in with their computer models and fake war-game scenarios.

  14. Save the Seals: Stop prosecuting our Navy SEALs and other military personnel for doing what needs to be done to subdue our radical Islamist enemies. You can’t fight a war in ballet slippers. We must stop requiring that our soldiers do a plié before they ask the enemy if he’d consent to being handcuffed and taken away.

  15. Re-Enforce the Military Infrastructure: Our brave service men and women should have the benefit of the best training and equipment not seminars on how to fight a politically correct war. Furthermore, Obama’s disarmament and meeker-than-thou defense policy must stop. We need to continually renew our military infrastructure by spending the necessary dollars to upgrade and modernize equipment. We must fund the F-22 fighter jets Obama has cut from the budget and increase the number of ships, subs, and missiles.

  16. Pay Raise for the Military Personnel: The support of our military must expand to include increasing pay for active duty combat troops by 10 percent.

  17. Silence the Hitler of Iran: Allow no more hate speech rants on U.S. soil from Ahmadinejad; deny this junior dictator permission to enter our country. Implement strong sanctions against this rogue nation, using our military to enforce embargoes and to mine and blockade Iran’s harbors so that nothing goes in and nothing comes out. Meanwhile, ship to Israel the necessary munitions, including “bunker buster” bombs that will enable them to mount a military strike on Iran if necessary.

  18. Impose Tariffs on China: We must draw a line in the sand with regard to China in order to loosen their strangle hold on our economy by imposing a 20 percent tariff on all goods produced in China. That tariff should be raised by 5 percent each year that China refuses to revalue its currency.

  19. Offer Health Savings Plans: Make health savings accounts the vehicle

of choice for “insuring” people’s medical needs. These accounts would be supplemented by smorgasbord high-deductible catastrophic health insurance policies sold by private insurance companies across state lines in open competition. By the same token, people who are injured or become ill with long-term conditions should not be allowed to be dropped by their insurance companies. Let the insurance companies and the market sort out how this comes about.

  20. Institute a Flat Tax: This simplifies the complex tax code and the unfair practice of tax discrimination—since 47 percent of U.S. households pay no federal income tax!6 All Americans above the poverty level should pay the same percentage of income tax—a straight 15 percent across the board for individual earners.

  21. Keep the Estate Tax at Zero: George Bush was right to eliminate the so-call “Death Tax”—the confiscatory practice of taxing the inheritance money passed from parents to children upon the parents’ death. In 2011, this tax will jump from 0 to 55 percent on estates with assets valued between $1 million to $10 million unless the Bush tax cuts are renewed.

  22. Say “NO” to the VAT Tax: The Value Added Tax is a bad idea. This raises taxes disproportionately on those who can least afford it—the poor and the middle class. We don’t need more taxes, we need less government spending, waste, and fraud.

  23. Reduce Pay and Pensions for Civil Servants: Why is New York City paying a $242,000 tax-free disability pension per year for a former fire chief?7 Why do almost two thousand House of Representative staffers take down six-figure incomes? How can forty-three of them soak the public for $172,500, which is “three times the median U.S. household income”8 in this down economy? This is an outrage and must be cut to reflect current economic realities.

  24. Defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA): Traditional marriage is under attack. This basic building block of society must continue to be defined as a legal union between one man and one woman. President Obama wants to repeal DOMA, which was signed into law in 1996 by Bill Clinton. Don’t let Obama get away with that!

  25. Encourage Child Bearing among Tax-Paying Citizens: Create a marriage incentive through lower taxes for married heterosexual couples and a tax credit for each child conceived and carried to birth. Increase the subsidies for each year the couple remains married.

  26. Make Abortions Illegal: With the exception of the physical survival of the mother—to be determined by two lice
nsed medical doctors. Require Norplant for all women on welfare of childbearing age. At the very least, prohibit taxpayer funded abortion through organizations such as Planned Parenthood.

  27. End Affirmative Action: This leftist policy of giving special advantage to certain groups has no place in America. When people of all colors and ethnicities compete equally and to the best of their abilities, the best and most qualified will rise to the top. Studies demonstrate that giving certain groups of people a leg up in competing for positions and honors actually harms them more than it benefits and leads to reverse discrimination.9

  28. Limit Welfare Benefits: Provide welfare benefits for no longer than three years. Require able-bodied recipients of welfare to volunteer fifteen hours per week in acts of community service. America will cease to exist if we continue to steal from the “makers” and give to the “takers.”

  29. Voting Reform: Require a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license at the ballot box when voting. While this doesn’t provide proof of citizenship, it eliminates the ACORN-style fraud of registering dead people.

  30. Boot the Czars: Require immediate Senate confirmation of each of Obama’s presidential appointments, and then end the practice of appointing czars who are not first vetted by Congress.

  31. Put the Brakes on GM: Demand that General Motors and Chrysler be re-privatized and that they either stand or fall on their own, without further government intervention and without pretending that they’ve paid back the bailout money they’ve received. Demand restitution of the money the federal government confiscated from GM and Chrysler stockholders and gave to labor unions as part of the takeover. Require these two companies to sever all ties and fire all government-appointed officers as part of their return to the private sector.
