Southern Sweets (Midnight)

“Do you like it?” Tanner asked, his warm breath blowing on the back of my neck, causing tiny bumps to break out across the surface of my skin.

“I love it.” I twisted around to face him. “Is this a client’s house you were working on? It’s beautiful.” My eyes were still all over the place, noticing every tiny detail, the carved wood work, the thick crown molding.

“In a way, yes.” Tanner shrugged before hesitantly placing his hands on my hips, closing the distance between us. My lips were aching for his to touch mine. Like I said, we’d had stolen kisses here and there, but that was it. I think we were both afraid to talk about our relationship and what exactly we were doing. But then his hands fell away and he was quickly hurrying out of the kitchen, like he couldn’t get away from me fast enough.

  “Tanner, what—”

He had disappeared down the hallway and I hurried to catch up with him. I poked my head through one doorway and it seemed to be set up as an office with a custom desk situated in the corner that I noticed right away as Tanner’s handy work. That man could work magic with his hands. I moaned internally, thinking about all of the magic that he could work with those big calloused hands when I heard him call me from the next room over. I shook my head and closed the door before walking to the next room which was a bedroom—one of the biggest bedrooms I had ever seen and I had seen a lot of them growing up in the lifestyle that I had been raised.

You could easily fit five oversized beds in there and still have room left over. There was an immaculate fireplace in the corner with a large comfy couch situated in front of it and as I step closer I see that the fireplace is double sided and went through to the bathroom where a deep claw foot tub sat.

“Wow, Tanner. This house is…honestly, I’m speechless. I can’t believe you did all of this.”

“This would explain all my time away and late nights.”

  “You were working on this?”

“Yup, it was a very special project.”

  “Project?”

“Amelia,” he blew out a deep breath, “this is all for you. For us…for our family.”

“What?” My mouth dropped open and he grabbed onto both of my hands, his blue eyes boring into me. It was then that I noticed how nervous he looked, his palms sweaty against mine.

“I was building this for us. Everything that I did here, I did it with you in mind—especially the kitchen. And the closet—but we haven’t made it that far yet.”

“That’s my favorite part,” I whispered, but then shook my head. “Every part is my favorite. I can’t pick just one. I might pee my pants when I see the closet.”

He snorted, squeezing my hands. “Please don’t. I doubt we want to get the floors cleaned already.”

  “Wait…you built this for us?”

“Yes.” He grinned. “And then everything went to shit. I…I pushed you away on purpose, Amelia. I thought we were bad together, I thought you deserved better. I was trying to push you towards Dan because I figured you would be treated better by him.” He cleared his throat, shaking his head. “But you and me, Amelia…I just can’t stay away. I want to spend the rest of my life proving to you that us together is the only thing that makes sense.”

He squeezed my hands as my heart thumped in my chest. He was saying everything that I wanted to hear, everything that I needed to hear—but was I really ready to hear it? Could I let go of everything that had happened between us?

“I know I’ve made mistakes, and pushing you away was one of the worst. Here I had this strong girl, wanting to be there for me when I needed you most when I was the one who messed up and I told you to get the hell out. That could’ve broken you, Amelia, but it didn’t. I want to spend the rest of my life making up for that. If you’ll let me.”

“Tanner.” I shook my head and his whole body sagged in disappointment. I squeezed his hands, trying to reassure him as I gathered my thoughts. I’d given up on anything ever happening between Tanner and me after that day in the hospital but buried down deep there had always been a sliver of hope. That hope had slowly started to become unearthed and now that hope was full bloom. “I don’t want you to spend the rest of your life making it up to me.”

He shook his head in defeat, a sad smile on his lips. “I don’t know why I would deserve it anyway.”

“That’s not what I meant, Tanner. I forgive you…for everything. We’ve both made a lot of mistakes and I hope you can forgive me for mine as well. But we’re human, we’re going to make mistakes and although we’ve made a lot of them, I think we can both agree we’ve made it. I don’t want you to think you need to make it up to me for the rest of my life, that’s no way to live. You have my forgiveness and you have my heart, Tanner. You’ve always had my heart, even when I didn’t think it belonged to you anymore. You’ve always had it.”

“Always?” He dropped my hands to wrap his arms around my waist.

“Always,” I whispered right before his lips touched mine and all felt right in the world—well, right in my world anyway.

Tanner didn’t let me out of his sight after that. He and Paisley proposed to me together once again, and I said yes in a heartbeat, but I wasn’t in a hurry to get to the aisle. I wanted our relationship to be as healthy as it could be when I became Mrs. Cox, and I could honestly say that it was. Of course we had our days, but what couple didn’t? We got through them and that was what it was all about at the end of the day—And the fact that I loved this man with everything in me.

That’s how we ended up here, two years later. We might’ve rushed into an engagement, but I didn’t want to rush the wedding. Our relationship grew stronger every day and I couldn’t remember ever being happier. I’d done a lot of growing up and it was for the best, really.

I let my eyes finally swing towards Tanner and I sucked in a breath at the beautiful man standing there. His blond hair was somehow being controlled and laid flat, his well-defined body was hugged by the khaki pants and I knew if I peeked over his shoulder, they would show off that well curved ass of his. His blue eyes watched me intently from the end of the aisle and I could see that his were glossy with tears as well.

When I finally made it to the end of the aisle, my dad kissed my cheek and shook Tanner’s hand. “Take good care of my girl, son.”

Tanner grinned as he grabbed both of my hands and we took our place in front of the minister. “You look so beautiful, Amelia. I can’t believe you’re about to be my wife.”

“And I can’t believe you’re about to be my husband. You haven’t changed your mind yet, have you?”

“What?” He snorted. “Of course not. What’s there to change my mind about?” He swiped at my cheek before cradling my chin. “I’m ready to spend the rest of my life with you.”

A throat clearing interrupted us and both of our heads snapped towards the minister, who apparently had been trying to get our attention for some time now.

“If you two are ready now,” he teased lightly. “Then let’s begin.”

We both nodded, laughing. “Let’s do this.”

  ***

  Tanner

I’ve been awake for hours. In fact, I’m sure if I had even been asleep for more than a few minutes. I can’t stop staring at her—at my wife. Her golden hair fanned around her, looking like an angel against the white pillowcase. Her naked, beautiful body that is all mine for the taking.

I glide a hand over her bare stomach that’s slightly rounded now and a smile spreads across my face. I didn’t get to experience Amelia’s first pregnancy with her—something I would regret for the rest of my life—but I’m going to live in the now. To know our child is growing inside of her amazes me. Hopefully it’s a son, but I’ll be happy either way. We haven’t told Paisley yet, and I can’t wait—she has always asked for a little brother or sister. However, we know if we told her now, everyone would know, because that little girl doesn’t know how to keep a secret. She’s a perfect combination of Amelia and I—sassy, outspoken, funny, smart, an
d a total girly girl. I can’t wait to see how this next one turned out. To say life is good is an understatement.

Now that we are married, everything just feels so much more concrete between us. The wedding was everything Amelia had dreamed about, and I just let her take the reins. I could have gone to the courthouse any day of the week and solidified our relationship, but she wanted to take things at a slow pace. I knew why.

For a while, it felt like we were on the edge, that at any second everything we had was ready to tip over and explode. We had such an ugly past, but we were working on making a beautiful future, and that’s exactly where we are now.

I move my hands from her stomach to cup her breasts that are plumper, giving a light squeeze, and I see her eyelids flutter. “What are you doing?” she asks, licking her lips.

  “Investigating.”

“Oh really?” she murmurs, her eyes still shut. “Investigating what, exactly?”

  “Your body of course.”

  “Hmm…has it changed or something?”

“Well, it’s starting to.” I dip my head down to take a nipple into my mouth and her back arches. “But now that you’re Mrs. Cox, I needed to further investigate.”

“Mrs. Cox?” Her eyes pop open and she arches a brow. “Who said I was taking your last name? Cox is just so…” She gives me a look and I roll my eyes.

“Woman, you’re taking my last name, no arguments there. Everyone will know you’re mine. Besides, Cox is an awesome last name and it’s more common than you think.”

“Mmhm,” she murmurs before yawning and stretching her arms above her head.

“What’s the matter, Mrs. Cox? Did someone wear you out last night?”

She laughs, her head tipping back as it travels throughout her body. “Tanner,” she shakes her head, “I’m not worn out at all,” she responds coyly.

“Really?” I pounce on her. “So what you’re saying is that you’re ready for more of The Cox?”

I don’t wait for her to answer. Instead, I grab her ankles and spread her legs as far apart as they will go. She gasps softly as I plunge a finger deep inside and move to hover over her, my lips crashing against hers. I would never get enough of this girl. She pulls on my neck, bringing me even closer as I continue to work my finger in and out of her wetness. She squirms beneath me with need, and I suck at her tongue once more before pulling back to sit on my knees. She’s a beautiful mess, her eyes lazily fixed on me.

“Tanner,” she pouts, “I’m not in the mood for your teasing.” She arches her hips up and I smirk.

“What my girl wants, she gets.” I pull on her ankles, bringing her to the edge of the bed. I lined up my dick as she wraps her long legs around my back, her breathing becoming labored as I tease her clit with my thumb. She moans my name when I flick it one last time, and then I’m slamming inside of her, her tightness clenching around me. Damn. Every time, I vow to take her nice and slow, to savor every second, but it’s close to impossible. I grip her ass, plunging in deeper as I fuck her from the end of the bed, her cries getting louder, only egging me on even more.

“Are you about to come on my dick, baby girl?” I pull out all the way and she whimpers. “Not ready for it to be over yet.” I twist her body around to lay her on her stomach, her ass pushing into the air and I slap it hard, the smack echoing in the room and she exhales.

“Tanner,” she pants. “Fuck me, fuck me, fuck me,” she hums.

“I don’t know, blondie.” I bite down on her shoulder, palming her ass. “With this beautiful ass in the air, all of a sudden I’m craving a cupcake.”

“I’ll bake you five dozen later if you would just get inside of me right now!” she screeches over her shoulder, and I love how worked up she is.

“Alright.” I glide my cock against her butt and her hips arch forward, clenching.

“Not funny, Tanner. You’re in exit only territory!”

  “Someday,” I murmur. “Someday.”

“Yeah, you wish,” she says into the pillow. “Tanner,” she pleads.

I grin, not wanting to make her wait any more and slam into her from behind. I kiss her neck and rub at her clit. We are both spiraling out of control and I can’t see straight as I pound into her. She clenches around me and that’s my undoing as I roar, emptying myself inside of her.

What a perfect way to kick off the first day of being married.

“C’mon, sweet girl. Let’s get you in the shower.”

Amelia groans as I pull her into my arms, kicking open the bathroom door and depositing her on the counter. She scoots off quickly to sit down on the toilet, sighing in ecstasy. I eye her as I start up the shower.

“What? This peeing thing is only going to get worse the bigger my belly gets. By the end, I might as well just make the bathroom my new home.”

“Well,” I cock an eyebrow, “at least it’s a nice bathroom.”

“Right.” She snorts. I hold out a hand and help her get in the shower, stepping to the front of the shower as the steam starts to fill it up. “Ah, this feels amazing.”

She moves her feet but yelps when she steps on one of Paisley’s toys strewn across the floor of the shower. I pick up a handful and throw them over the door, but plop the last one on top of my head. Amelia giggles as I grab her hips and push my hardening cock against her.

“Looks like you have a fire that needs to be put out, ma’am, and I’ve got just the hose to do it.”

“Oh really?” She flicks at the plastic fireman’s hat sitting on top of my head that Paisley had got at a festival. “Sorry, sir, but firemen aren’t really my thing.” She grips my cock in her wet hands. “I much more prefer a sweaty man with a tool belt on and I really like when he’s hammering away.” She licks her lips seductively and I pick up her body, twisting her around to push her up against the wall.

“Well, I think I could help with that.” I grind against her and she moans.

“Mommy, Daddy.” A little hand smacks hard against the fogged glass. “What are you doing in there?” Paisley’s tiny voice asks and we both groan in unison. Then the door is being opened and she sticks her little head in. “Daddy, what are you doing with my fireman hat on? Give it back.” She hold out a hand and I pluck it off of my head. “Can I take a bath now?” We both groan again, but Amelia musters a smile.

“Sure, baby girl, just give me and Daddy a few minutes to finish up washing.”

  “Okay!” And then she’s off.

“We only need a few minutes, huh?”

“Yup, better make it snappy and pull out the drill.” She winks and I smirk, complying all too quickly.

Paisley is what brought Amelia and I together again, but our love is what keeps us together. I’m ready to continue each chapter of life with my wife and our family; and I know how beautiful and crazy those chapters will be. Even though Amelia wants to forget about the past, I know I won’t be able to, and I will live everyday being the best husband and man she deserves.
