The Ravager Chronicles: The Complete Series

Page 68

“Ameia?” he asks, his voice having that unnatural metallic sound to it.

I feel it at once. That knowing little feeling in the pit of my stomach. I force a smile to my lips and answer, “Yes. That’s me.”

The Ravager’s glowing gaze sweeps over the group of us again but this time more slowly.

  “And you are?” I ask.

“Ronan,” he answers, and before I can ask him another question, he just turns around and stomps back into his ship.

My jaw drops in disbelief as I watch the ramp fold back up and the door close.

  Ronan just rejected me.

“Well, that was rude!” I snort.

Warrick shrugs his shoulders and Vis smirks.

The door to the ship closes and a moment later the ship is lifting back into the sky.

We all watch it fly away and whatever bit of anger I was feeling fades away, replaced by relief.

You see, not long after the pit disappeared, Ravagers started noticing a funny thing happening. Those who were rejected by their Callings no longer felt the pit calling to them or a loss of their manhood. In fact, those who had the honor of being rejected described that afterwards they felt a sensation of warmth and a feeling of freedom.

Word spread like wildfire, and soon enough it wasn’t just the women rejecting the Ravagers, some Ravagers were choosing to reject their own Callings.

  Which is seriously cool.

I just never thought it would actually happen to me.

  “It’s his loss,” Beast grunts.

  “Damn straight,” Striker agrees.

Warrick grins. “More Ameia for me.”

  Vis nods. “And me.”

  Stars, I love these guys.

  The End.
