I rose on my tiptoes and pressed my lips to his ear, giving him the only word he needed to hear. “Yes.”
Tucker punched his fist into the air before saying those three words I’d never forget. “She said yes!”
Newsflash: In case you’re wondering, I still have my nuts.
At this point in our story, Ava and I have been blissfully married for twenty years, having given Jeremy and Sierra five grandchildren—all boys. Shortly after Those Three Words released and was a mega box-office hit, Ava’s agent, Martin, spent most of his time fielding calls as studios were clamoring for the woman who critics claimed was Hollywood’s newest sweetheart—Ava Banks, soon to be Manning. She went from a small-time star to the most sought-after actress in the world. It wasn’t a surprise to me at all. She deserved all the success in the world.
As for me, I continued writing in my spare time but never published another romance book. My story had been told and I was living my own happily-ever-after. I didn’t need to write anyone else’s. Instead, I became a stay-at-home dad while dabbling in science fiction, and I loved every single second of it. We set up our home base in Cincinnati, raising our boys in my childhood home, right next to hers.
Twenty-five years ago, I laid my parents to rest and lost the love of my life because the fates knew that our story wasn’t ready yet. Twenty years ago, the universe, with a little nudging from me, brought us back together, which led to a long life filled with laughter, love, and lots and lots of sex. Great sex. Phenomenal sex.
I loved Ava.
I let her go.
And, when she was ready, she came back to me.
Our story isn’t over yet, but I know one thing. It will end with the happiest of ever-afters.
