While he worked on her, she leaned forward and sucked his nipple, drawing the little ring into her mouth and tugging on it gently. He paused, gasped. “Oh that feels so fucking good.”

It did to her too, but she couldn’t tell him. She had her mouth full. She moved to the other, sucking and stroking as he did to her sometimes. He tasted tangy, and a flavor that was essentially Jace. He meant so much to her that she’d run scared when she realized it. That was the truth he’d made her acknowledge. The great, aching loss she’d felt the farther she’d gone away from him wouldn’t have gone away like she kept telling herself it would.

This time she wanted him helpless, wanted to prove to herself that she could drive him crazy. So topless, and with her jeans dragged down to her hips, she unzipped and pushed his jeans out of the way and then his boxers, sliding them carefully over the hard knob at the top of his erection. It gleamed in the light, inviting her to taste. She didn’t disappoint, but licked it as if it were a large lollipop. His body shuddered and a series of sighs and groans left his lips. He cupped the back of her head, guiding her to take him fully into her mouth.

She had to open wide, but she sucked him in as deep as she could. He tasted of heaven, or perhaps Jace was her heaven. The scent of fresh male musk surrounded her, seeped into her being. She shoved his boxers farther down and cupped his balls, massaging them in time with her sucking. She couldn’t take much more than his cock head, but she did her best with the rest, spreading her knees for better balance so she could use her other hand to grasp him and work him.

“Open your eyes. Look at me.”

When she did, his avid stare blazed into her, setting up a connection deeper and more resonant than anything that had come before. She paused, then resumed what she was doing, sucking hard enough to make her cheeks hollow. “You’re so beautiful like that,” he said. “Oh fuck, you’re incredible.”

He crooned encouragement, told her what to do, what he liked. “Lick around that flange at the top. Oh yes, baby, so good, I’m so sensitive there. But I want to touch you, push my fingers right inside you. Are you wet for me, sweetheart? Show me. Do what I can’t.”

Reluctantly she released his balls and slid her hand down her body. She longed for someone to touch her and if he couldn’t, she’d have to do it herself.

She got some ease until she saw his face. Rubbing her fingers down her crease to lubricate them, she dipped briefly inside and returned to tweak her clit, the fastest way to satisfaction. His expression nearly made it even faster. His lips were drawn taut, his gaze burning into her, watching what she was doing to herself, going back to what she was doing to him.

“You’re in control, baby, but I think I should tell you that I can’t last much longer. I’m going to fuck you hard, punish you for leaving me. You won’t do it again.”

With a sharp cry, he drew back, dragging his cock out of her mouth. She’d sucked so hard that it emerged with an audible pop. He moaned as the colder air hit it, and leaned back to grab a condom from his jeans pocket.

She wanted to sheathe him, but when she reached for the packet, he shook his head. “No, I can’t take any more. You drove me hard.”

“I wanted to taste you when you came,” she said.

He grinned and tilted her chin, giving her a rough, hard kiss. “Tough. You don’t get everything you want. Now get naked and turn around.”

She didn’t quite understand the last instruction until she knelt after shedding the remains of her clothing. Grasping her waist, he turned her around, forcing her down so her shoulders were on the bed and her ass in the air, her legs spread wide so he could see and touch anything he wanted to. So open, she was so open to him now.

And fuck, did he touch her. He plunged two fingers deep inside her pussy, then scissored them, stroking the walls of her vagina until she flinched, then he purred in satisfaction. “There we are.”

He reached around to pinch her clit between the thumb and finger of his other hand, pulling gently. “You showed me what to do. Now tell me. Is this right?”

The only answer she could manage was a moan, then a wailed, “Yes, oh yes!”

By stroking her G-spot and manipulating her clit, he forced a hard, fast climax on her before she could register the buildup. She’d never come like that before, never felt so helplessly under the control of someone else. She loved it.

He withdrew his fingers, then stroked up, past her backside, and she shuddered. Nobody had touched her there before, and she loved the sensitivity. He made her acceptance easy by doing it, then waiting for her response. Bending to kiss her shoulder blade, he murmured to her, “One day. I want everything and I’ll take you there as well. Right now, I want your pussy. It’s mine, and I’m going to make sure of it.”

He paused, leaned back, and she knew he was looking at her, more intimately than anyone had seen her before. Not a long pause, before he nudged her opening with his cock head and then drove inside, filling her completely, the nip of pain as he touched the neck of her womb welcome spice to the lush ecstasy she felt. “You hold on now,” he told her, “because we’re going on one hell of a ride.”

His first thrust tore her apart, deep and deeper, so she didn’t know if she liked it or not. So intense it went past what she could describe, and he didn’t stop, thrusting inside with a relentless brutality that gave her no choice but to come again.

This time the sensation radiated along and up, right through her body until the follicles on her scalp tightened in reaction. She couldn’t move, only grip the comforter under her as he drove her higher, harder. “I’m not stopping,” he said. “You get no recovery time, just hard fucking.” He thrust, their bodies connecting with a hard slap. “This is the only music I want to hear right now. You screaming. Me taking you. Go for it, Beverley. Keep coming.”

Did she obey him or was her body helpless in his thrall? She didn’t care. Mental processes were disintegrating around her and all she had left was pure sensation. He took her and she was taken, screaming his name, helpless to stop, set the pace or any other damn thing.

Counting orgasms? No chance. She couldn’t say if she had several climaxes or if the surges were just part of one huge culmination.

The low thrum of the plane’s engines bled into her consciousness when that and their ragged breathing filled the room. “Did you?”

A heavy body landed beside her. “Did I what?”

  “Did you come?”

“Fuck, yeah.” He swung up, sat on the edge of the bed. “I’ll just take care of the condom. Keep the bed warm for me.”

The first thing she became aware of was the breathing, the steady puffs of heat on her forehead. She opened her eyes and saw a dragon. It looked at her and she stared back. It had a smug appearance, almost as if it had shared the experience. Perhaps it had a life of its own, one that shared, fed off its master until it became the owner. She’d have to tell Jace.

Smiling at her own idiotic thoughts, happy in the knowledge that she could tell him whenever she chose, she watched him. He was awake, smiling down at her, and he dropped a gentle kiss on her lips. “Have a good nap? When I got back from the bathroom you were flat out.”

  “You wore me out.”

“Or down.” He kissed her again. “No more running away. I’ll only come after you.”

She shook her head. “No more running away.” Their gazes met, totally honest, and she enjoyed the vibrancy of that electric blue. “I did, didn’t I? I’ve done it before. Run from my problems. But my parents wouldn’t let me go. The job was a way of my mother looking after me the best way she knew.”

“People who love you will always come after you. But don’t make a habit of it, huh?”

She swallowed, nodded, the world flooding back in a tide that threatened to drown her. “We still have a problem.”

“Which one do you want to talk about first? I can’t make everything better, but you tell me and I’ll do my best.”

  “You’re not leaving the band.”
/>
He raised a brow. “I’m not, you say?”

She spread her hand over his chest. She loved feeling the steady beat of his heart, being that close to him. “No. You can’t disappoint all those people. The band is perfect right now. If you leave, you’ll upset something and an opportunity will be lost. In a few years it might change, you might want something different, but what I saw at the concert—I’ve never seen anything like it before.”

“Have you been to many concerts?”

“A few.” A boy band when she was twelve, a few rock bands, all of which she’d enjoyed. “Not like that, not like you. You can’t throw that away.”

He sighed and cupped her head, stroking her hair with a gentle touch. “I’d have tried, for you.”

“I didn’t want you to. But you didn’t ask me.”

“I know that too.” He paused, then, “I’m sorry. It’s for you as much as for anybody else that I’m staying. I’ll let the clause on the contract at Great Oaks expire and become a shareholder, nothing else. I’m not buying back in.”

“Good. That’s your past. You have to move on.”

A smile curved his lips. “So do you.”

“I think I have. You helped me so much.”

He lost the smile. “You make it sound final. We’re landing in less than an hour so we have that long to decide what to do. If you want to leave, I’ll keep my promise, I won’t stop you. But I don’t think I’ll be fucking anybody else anytime soon.”

  “But you said—”

He stopped her protests with a kiss. “I was insane to say it. I used to, sure, but no more. As soon as I thought about it I realized there was no chance in the world I’d want someone else. Only you from now on, I swear it. I don’t think I could get it up for anybody else.”

“So romantic.” She gave a mock sigh and he laughed.

“That was when I realized I loved you.”

“What, when you couldn’t get it up for anybody else?”

They both laughed this time. “Something like that,” he admitted. “I thought about the women we get backstage. Some of them are great. But they’re not you. None of them are you, and it’s you I want.”

She kissed him for that, and he held her close, cherished her. Nobody had ever done that to her before, not since she’d turned thirteen. One day she’d tell him so.

“So I’ll be faithful,” he said. “I can promise that. You can do what you have to. But I am worried.” He stroked her, waist to thigh and cupped her ass, drawing her against his burgeoning erection. “Matt and V are coping with their long-distance relationship. They like it; at least they both say they do. It gives them the freedom to do what they want. Though I bet V is getting a lot of Skype sex. She shuts herself away for the half hour before we go on, either with Matt or with a computer so she can get online. Nobody asks.”

She slapped his butt and he gave a moan, but he was smiling. Still, she saw the heat in his eyes. “We could try that sometime. No time right now. Barely time to chat, but I want to settle a few things before we leave this cabin.”

She took a deep breath and tried to articulate what she’d been thinking about, and what was still coalescing in her mind. “I want to go into hotel management. Entertainment management, maybe, I don’t know. I’m still finding my way. But I need to train before I can be really good. I want to train. That means I won’t always be able to be with you, or travel with you. If I go to Seattle, I’ll learn from the manager there.”

He met her gaze steadily. “I know that. If you promise yourself to me, as I will to you, I think we can cope. Decide for you, what’s best for you.”

“For us.” She put her fingers on his lips and after he’d placed a kiss on them, he moved away.

He reached over to the small table and handed her an envelope. “Chick sent you this. I don’t know what it says, but maybe you should read it.”

She took the envelope. She read her name in neat script. Nothing else. After tearing it open, she drew out the single sheet of paper, scanning it once, twice and then laughing. “When you’re looking for a job you can never find one. Then two show up at once.” She handed him the letter.

“It’s a formal offer of a job. Now the band has hit really big, he wants to arrange extra gigs, or gigs in larger venues. It means he can’t concentrate on other matters. He says he needs an assistant to arrange the hotels and other things, like making sure the riders are in place, someone to check the cars and security.” She paused, biting her lip. “Does he? Is that true? This isn’t a manufactured job, is it?”

He rolled onto his back, keeping her close with one arm and scanning the letter. “Sneaky bastard. He arranged a flight for you with a long layover to give me a chance to catch up with you and then sent you this. But yeah, he needs somebody. He was saying that in Chicago. You were great with the hotel, very fast, and you worked well with Chick. Some people don’t like his attitude, they take it personally. You didn’t seem to.”

That surprised her. In a crisis, they had no time for the niceties, and chefs had yelled far worse things at her. “Why should I? He wasn’t mad at me. If he calls me a bitch, I’ll call him a bastard. He reminds me of my father in some ways. He tends to yell in the kitchen, but I’ve never known an employer who cares about the people who work for him so much. He can tell when a sous is out of sorts by the way the vegetables are arranged on the plate. He always gets them in to his office to talk about it. After service, naturally.”

  “So what do you think?”

She laughed. “It’s a great salary and a great opportunity. Better than the job at Seattle, because I can get experience in a different field.”

Jace kissed her. “So you’ll take it? Decide for you, sweetheart. We have to do what we need to. Believe me, I love you and I won’t stray.”

She listened. If she went to Seattle now, it would be with his blessing. She wouldn’t be running away. But while the job with Bell’s would be safe, it would be in the line she had experience in already. Chick would give her a different experience, still managerial but in a different field. “If I work for Chick I might have to go on other gigs with other bands.”

“You do what you have to,” he said. “We both have to be happy here.”

She stared at him, biting her lip, but inside she knew there was no contest. She’d have given everything up for Jace, because this was his time, and she couldn’t take that away from him. But he didn’t want her to.

“I’ll take it.” She rolled up to kiss him. “And anyway, the benefits are better than any I’ve known before.”

“Mmm-hmm.” He returned her kisses and then added some of his own. “You don’t get a guitarist with every job, especially one who’s crazy in love with you. But you sure get one with this.”
