“Oh, you’re making me cry again. I’m like a water faucet today with tears on and off.”
“I hope they’ve all been happy ones.”
“Mostly. I was a bit scared this morning until I saw you waiting at the end of the aisle. All the nerves jumping in my stomach and my heart pounding stopped when you smiled. I knew we were doing the right thing by marrying.”
“Let’s go home, wife.”
Grace opened the driver’s door. “I’ll drive us in my new car with the new-car smell.” She stared across the seat at Gab. “If I’m dreaming, don’t pinch me. I don’t ever want to wake up.”
“Don’t worry, darlin’. It’s no dream. It’s the beginning of the Forrester clan.”
Epilogue
Two and a Half Months Later
Grace stood in the middle of her new design room. Gab’s second surprise for her on their wedding day had been the plans drawn up to build this workroom. She’d only changed a few specifications, and the building had started the next Monday after their wedding.
“Did it turn out the way you wanted?” Gab asked from behind her.
“Perfect. I’m glad you suggested a hallway to connect the family room and the design room. I don’t have to go outside in bad weather.”
“Plus, when the little one comes”—he rubbed her still-flat tummy—“you can take him with you without leaving the house.”
“You thought of everything. But don’t tell anyone our news yet. Not until it’s confirmed by the doctor. Who knew I’d get pregnant so soon after quitting the pills.”
“You aren’t sorry, are you?” Gab asked.
“No. You know I’m thrilled.” She turned and put her arms around his neck. “I can’t wait to find out if we’re having a boy or a girl.”
“Your mom will guess when she sees you at dinner today. Your glowing face will give you away.”
“Perhaps not. She’s excited about Clay coming home for a week. He wants to walk through his house with me and have me make suggestions for decorating. I still can’t believe he plans to work from Frontier City.”
“We’ll see if it lasts.”
“Mom said his usual secretary is having a baby, so he’s bringing her sister. He hired her to help him set up his office in town. I wonder if he’ll have a model on his arm, too.”
“Clay’s getting older. He may be tired of the tall, skinny women.”
“Oh?” Grace tipped her head back to look at him. “Is that what happened to you? Did you get tired of the glamour girls and come home to little old me?”
“I knew as soon as I spoke, I was in trouble.” He picked her up and walked down the hall and into their bedroom. “I guess I’ll have to prove to you again how much I love you.”
“I hope it’s not getting tiresome, honey,” she teased him.
“Never in a lifetime.” He kissed her lips and fell onto the bed with her.
