The Christmas List
Page 6
“I’m terrified,” Mandy admitted.
“Take the jump with me, Mandy, I love you.”
“I love you too, Max.”
Christmas night, Max dropped her at her apartment and went back to the Paint N Go. Before he left, he enveloped Mandy in a hug and gave her a leisurely kiss that held the promise of more. “Merry Christmas, my Mandy,” he murmured.
“Merry Christmas, my Max,” she breathed right back. She let go and he went on his way.
Mandy rushed over to tell Jennifer the good news.
Jennifer’s mouth turned into a big “O” as she stared at her friend in shock. “Hallelujah and Praise the Lord!” Jennifer finally exclaimed.
“I thought you didn’t believe in God,” Mandy was startled by the big smile on her best friend’s face.
“Well, now, I never said that. I just wanted to know how and why you believe in Him. I wasn’t on such familiar terms with our Lord, but I knew He was leading me in that direction. I had to be sure.”
Mandy stood with her mouth agape.
“As for the boutique, I expect I’ll need a new manager soon, huh? Because you’ll want to handle my taxes, and you’ll have Max’s career to manage, and you’ve always wanted to help others accounting-wise, too, right?”
Mandy could only nod.
“You know, I prayed to God that you’d find someone who was the opposite of everything you are. Opposites attract, and all that. I thought you needed someone who wasn’t as disciplined to lighten your life. Although I must say Max is not quite what I expected. But he loves you and he believes the Lord will take care of him as he dances through life. That’s an amazing faith. Oh, Merry, Merry Christmas, Mandy.” Jennifer grinned.
Mandy finally found her voice. “Well I guess I’ll be dancing with him, and the Lord, every step of the way.” Mandy laughed. “And a Merry, Merry Christmas to you, too, Jennifer.”
“Lord, thank You,” Mandy mused out loud while she lay in bed that night.
The Lord sure did provide a wonderful Christmas for her and Max, and even Jennifer, in the most special and mysterious of His ways!
