Rethwellan
The country south of Valdemar and west of Karse. Petras is its capitol. Rethweilan is ruled by the Jadrevalyn family, important allies to Valdemar, who have assisted in the fight against Hardorn and Karse on several occasions. It is also where Kethry and Tarma have their school. Quenten also has a mage-school there, in the city of Bolthaven. Mages and mercenaries are prominent in the country and protected by guilds. He was a Lieutenant and Undersecretary in Ancar’s officer corps. Agents smuggled him out of Hardorn, and he told them how his people were disappearing in large numbers. The missing were being used in blood-sacrifice rites by Ancar and his blood-path mages. (Winds)

Alberich developed this persona among the taverns of Haven so he could blend in with the crowds and gather information. (TT)
Rolan (Companion)
Companion to the Monarch’s Own. He Chose Herald Talamir after Talamir’s Companion Taver died in the Tedril Wars while they were trying to rescue the King. When Talamir was murdered, Rolan Chose Talia after a two-month search. Though he and Talia were not able to communicate in words since she did not have a strong Mindspeech Gift, the bond between them was exceptionally strong. Talia could see through her Companion’s eyes at will, no matter where he was, and he was always able to feel her presence in his mind. Like all Companions to the Monarch’s Own. Rolan is a Grove-Born stallion and never seems to age. The strongest and perhaps the wisest of all the Companions in Selenay’s reign, he also has the strongest Mindspeech of all the Companions, and can receive messages from incredible distances. An innkeeper of Selina who hired Kerowyn as his bouncer after she resigned from the Skybolts. (Sword)
Ruins, The
The home of Hydona and Trevan, and a place of old, tame magic with half a dozen ley-lines under it. There is a power node far beneath the ruins, which connects to the ley-lines of k’Treva Vale. (Winds)

These are Rune symbols that are drawn by a blood-mage to place an individual under coercion. (Winds)

A Hardornen couple in exile but returned to their ruined home. They acted as guides for Elspeth and Darkwind. (Storm)

Ruled by Prince Lothar, it is a small country east of Rethwellan. The cities of Delton where Thalhkarsh was summoned and Oberdorn, where he was defeated, are there. The Sunhawks also have a mercenary town located there called Hawk’s Nest. (Oath)

Sanctuary
A quarantined area in The Forest where Healers could isolate the sick among Ghost Cat clan and the incoming northern pilgrims. The route to the Sanctuary was hidden deep in the forest and was only known, as far as the northerners were concerned, to the “holy” dyheli. This prevented new pilgrims from kidnapping a Healer to take back with them. (Owl)

Sandaar
A fire elemental that Herald-Mage Vanyel sent into the face of the enemy mage who attacked his mother. The sandaar did not kill the attacking mage, but the distraction gave Vanyel time to ready other magic weapons to follow. (LHM)

Sectors
The various territorial and political divisions within Valdemar. The areas are kept linked to Haven through the Heralds’ circuit rides as they tour the sectors either
singly, in pairs or teams. The Border sectors are generally the most dangerous. (Arrows)

A ritual undertaken by Shin’a’in shamans to call for divine aid. The answer they receive explains the price the Goddess demands for her gifts. (Winds)
Seisin
An ancient Hardornen ritual where the King was presented with the soil of his country, which was then mixed with his blood to sanctify it. It signified the monarch’s bond with his land and gave Hardornen nobility a chance to swear fealty to their new ruler by offering a piece of their own territory for the ritual. In the course of the ritual, the earth-bound monarch would reveal any problems in the vassal’s lands. (Storm)

The oldest mage in Tremane’s entourage and his most trusted advisor, he’d been with Tremane since the Duke was a boy and loved him like a father. (Storm)

Selenay (Queen)
The current monarch of Valdemar, she is the daughter of King Sendar and mother of Princess Elspeth, Princess Lyra, and Prince Kris. She is married to Prince Darenthallis, the former Lord-Martial of Rethwellan, and now Royal Consort. Assuming the throne after her father was killed during the Tedrel Wars, she led Valdemar to victory. Afterward, Selenay fell in love with and married Prince Karathanelan of Rethwellan, Elspeth’s father. Dissatisfied with his role and seeking the throne for himself, he plotted to become king by havbg selenay assassinated and taking the throne by force. Alberich discovered the plot, and Karathanelan and his co-conspirators were killed during the attempt. Selenay met Darenthallis in the heat of battle against Hardorn and the two were lifebonded.
