“The Strip” existed pretty much as described in this book, along Peachtree between 10th and 14th Streets, with all the record shops and other places where kids of that generation would hang out. Many mysterious acts of arson did occur along The Strip. The offices of The Great Speckled Bird, the actual underground newspaper, were repeatedly harassed by police and ultimately firebombed in 1972, after many muckracking articles looking into local corruption.
