Infinite Faith Infinite Series, Book 4)

“Glitch? That wasn’t planned?”
“No, something went wrong.” He sighs. “In the beginning, people used to remember more, but it became evident that memories got in the way of fully experiencing the new life. It’s better to focus on one life at a time.”
“How can we be sure it doesn’t happen again, though?”
He shrugs. “It’s always possible, and it happens from time to time, but it’s very rare. But what a mess it usually makes.” He lays a hand on my shoulder and switches subjects. “You’re right about one thing, though, I can’t do it myself. I’m not as strong as you.”
“I shouldn’t have—”
“Ah-ah.” He holds a hand up to stop me. “But we’re in this together.”
Now I feel like I can do anything with Zachariah behind me.
“What a miraculous journey we have been on together, though. And now you must watch your latest life with me to see how much progress you’ve made.”
“My latest life?”
“Your life as Maya.”
That name feels so far away. So foreign. Sokaris, Alcina, Liam, Elizabeth, Lucrezia, Luis, Redmond, Kohana, John, Edgar, Jo, and Annelie feel closer to me somehow.
“I don’t remember any of it now.”
“You’re not supposed to. This way, you’ll see it with fresh eyes.”
“I’m not sure if I made it through, though.” I sigh. “I used to think the scariest part of viewing these lives was not knowing where I was going to end up or who I was going to be, but now I realize that the worst part is knowing some of what to expect.”
“I have faith in you, Lazrina.”
That name suddenly feels right.
He holds his arm out and winks.
The sun is enormous and orange on the horizon. I feel it warm the very center of me.
I take hold.
