The Forgotten Sin (Purifiers Book 1)

"No!... Mother!... I will not kill you!... I will get you back!... I promise!" Iliana shouted as the real Mother’s face changed back, but looked at Iliana utterly frightened.
But Mother shook her head and her eyes turned completely black, she looked up at Iliana. A twisted smile stretched across her face and Iliana knew who was in control of the body now.
"Your poor little weak Mother is far from saving... Purifier!... She had already willingly given in to her own demon, and she sacrificed her body to me... She even agreed to give up her own daughter for my Master!... He is most pleased with her!" The demon snarled. "So now... it is time for you to follow in your Mother’s footsteps."
The demon pushed Iliana back with so much force Iliana flew back and crashed landed on the floor further down the hallway. Passing Yuki the demon ran towards Iliana who tried to get up, but Yuki grabbed it’s ankle by her teeth from behind and started to gnaw it. The demon screamed out in pain as the blood dripped down it’s ankle. The skin was ripped out and the bone could almost be seen.
"Yuki!... No!..." Iliana yelled.
Even though the demon was now in control the body is still Mother’s and she would feel the pain too. But the demon grabbed Yuki by her neck, loosening her grip round the ankle and then threw her into the lounge. Iliana heard a yelp and a loud thud and then silence.
"YUKI!..."
With rage burning up inside her Iliana got up to her feet. She felt the presence of water in a flower vase that stood on a table in the study room to her left. With her eyes fixed on the demon Iliana forced the water out causing the glass vase to shatter. And in a split second the jet of water wrapped itself round Iliana’s fist and lower arm. The demon stared at Iliana with a smirk.
"You cannot use your powers against me!... Not without hurting this body!" It hissed.
"You want to bet!" Iliana said confidently knowing the demon was right but was calling it’s bluff.
The demon growled and was about to launch itself forwards to Iliana who was ready to defend herself but the demon suddenly stopped. Instead it turned round and headed for the front door, then after picking up the phone and the envelopes from the floor, disappeared out the door.
Even though she was slightly confused of what just happened, Iliana ran into the entrance of the lounge expecting to find Yuki to be badly injured. However she was already standing up on her feet and trotted towards Iliana with her mouth stained with blood. It looked like she was just thrown onto the floor as nothing else on the room was damaged. Sighing with relief and bending down to her Iliana wrapped one arm round Yuki and hugged her. But when she suddenly heard a car start Iliana rushed to the front door.
The black Jaguar car drove at high speed down the driveway towards the open gate, it swerved hard right almost skidding then vanished. Iliana knew exactly where the demon was heading. She looked down at her hands, the jet of water was still circling around her hand and lower arm. Iliana released the water with a wave of her other hand and the water dropped onto the concrete ground.
Knowing that her powers was still not to the highest of her capability, Iliana knew she had no choice but to go after the demon and get her Mother back. Iliana quickly wiped the blood off from the floor, cleared away the broken glass and removed any evidence of the incident. Iliana did not want Father to return home and see anything out of the ordinary. She scrubbed Yuki’s mouth with a damp cloth, there was still a slight residue of blood due to the colour of Yuki’s fur but it sufficed.
After stuffing her phone and the house keys into her skinny black jeans pocket and then locking the house and the front gates, Iliana started her walk to Lord Baddesley’s mansion with Yuki trotting next to her. It was still light outside with patches of grey clouds that drifted above her. The fresh breeze brushed through Iliana’s long hair making it fly behind her like a black veil. In another hour or two the sun would start to set and that was the time when Iliana loved to walk Yuki down the Beach Cove, and then just sit and watch the sun set over the sea water. But instead she was walking at a brisk pace in the opposite direction with Father’s voice echoing in her head.
‘Do not turn your back on her... this is the time when she needs you the most... do not lose faith in her.’
‘Do not worry Father... I will not lose faith. I will get her back... I promise...’ Iliana muttered to herself as she turned a corner.
Iliana did not get very far when a red Mini Cooper driving the opposite way flashed it’s lights at her. And Jung stuck his head out of the open window waving at her hysterically. Iliana then remembered that Jung was supposed to meet her at the house with his girlfriend Caitlyn.
"Hey... Iliana!... Where are you going?" Jung asked as Iliana and Yuki crossed the road to where he parked on one side.
Iliana hurriedly tried to come up with an excuse to get away, but she could not think of one. Her thoughts however were sidetracked when she saw a beautiful young lady sitting in the front passenger’s seat. She looked in her early twenties and had golden blonde hair that sat on her shoulders with big loose curls at the ends. Her fringe was side parted revealing her big sparkly light blue eyes. She smiled at Iliana as she stood by her side of the door showing off her perfectly straight white teeth.
"Whoa!..." Iliana gasped in awe of her beauty.
"Iliana... this is my Caitlyn. Caitlyn... this is Iliana." Jung introduced leaning forward over Caitlyn.
"Hello... it is my pleasure to finally meet you!" Caitlyn said in a strong Welsh accent.
"Likewise!" Iliana said smiling then thought to herself with a tang of envious. ‘Looks wise... she is more suited to Kazuki than to Jung.’
"My little Korean bear has told me a lot about you." Caitlyn added still smiling.
"Oh... n-nice things I hope." Iliana replied back trying to act normal as she now remembered that she really needed to get to Mother.
"Of course... I started to get jealous."
"You did not... did you... my little Welsh angel?" Jung cooed tapping a finger on Caitlyn’s nose.
Iliana raised an eyebrow as the two of them giggled at each other. The atmosphere they created with their cutesy and sugary giggles and comments made Iliana feel a little nauseated, even Yuki groaned. Iliana had always thought of Jung being the happy-go-lucky type of guy behind that police badge, although Iliana had not seen him this happy and gooey before.
‘Caitlyn’s and Jung’s personalities do however very much suite each other.’ Iliana thought as she tried to slowly edge herself away from the car door.
"E-er... I am really sorry but I have to go... I will catch up with you later." Iliana said hurriedly hoping to dash away quickly before either of them could say anything.
But the back passenger door suddenly swung open making Iliana walk into it. Kazuki got out the car sliding his Aviator sunglasses on top of his head before resting his arms on top of the car door. Iliana’s stomach and heart did the somersault in unison, she had forgotten Jung was giving Kazuki a lift home from school.
"What is wrong?" Kazuki asked seriously.
"N-nothing!" Iliana replied quickly looking everywhere but his piercing eyes.
Kazuki suddenly and quite quickly closed the car door ajar so there was no barrier between them and then stood up close to her causing Iliana to look directly up at him... startled.
"What is wrong?" He asked again in the same tone.
Her eyes fixed on his, Iliana was unable to come up with a quick excuse and just sighed. Knowing he would probably not believe her if she tried to lie as Iliana was the worst for lying, especially when being face to face.
"My Mother is possessed by her own demon and another... a much stronger one!" Iliana bluntly answered.
Kazuki stepped back as Iliana carried on explaining.
"For a moment my real Mother fought against them but they were both too strong and they ended up taking full control of her, she then drove away. I think I know where she is heading and I need to get there as soon as possible. I think what Father Benjamin w
as talking to us about Lord Baddesley yesterday might actually be happening... I want to save my Mother."
"And you were going alone?" Kazuki asked quite calmly as if what he just heard did not bother him.
"W-well... I have Yuki!" Iliana replied looking down at Yuki who barked at the sound of her name.
"When it comes to possessions no-one ever goes alone... with just their dog!" Kazuki said opening the car door widely. "Get in!"
"B-but I..."
"Get in!" Kazuki ordered again.
Iliana instantly obeyed and got into the car, Kazuki followed after Yuki who jumped in excitedly and sat in the middle.
"What is going on?" Jung asked utterly confused.
"Just drive to Lord Baddesley’s mansion... we will explain on the way." Kazuki replied slamming the door shut.
*** Chapter 7 ***
"I have tried to call him three times now, he is still not picking up!" Caitlyn said loudly holding her mobile in one hand and clinging on the hand grip of the car door for dear life with the other.
Jung swerved hard round into the road that led to Lord Baddesley’s private land where his mansion stood. Everybody inside the car was nearly thrown to one side, Iliana had to grab hold of Yuki to prevent her from flying out through the glass window. Luckily everyone else wore seatbelts.
"I know I said we needed to get to Lord Baddesley’s mansion fast, but it would be nice if we got there alive!" Kazuki sarcastically remarked.
All of Jung’s concentration was on the long straight road ahead so Kazuki’s comment fell on deaf ears. The speedometer nearly reached the ninety mark before he slammed his foot on his brakes causing the car to almost tip forward before it halted a few metres away from the gates of the mansion.
"That was fun, don’t you think?" Jung said happily turning round to everyone.
"I feel nauseated." Caitlyn grumbled holding a hand over her mouth in case she throw up.
"I think Yuki is going to pee herself!" Iliana exclaimed opening the door and getting out so Yuki could release herself away from the car.
"And I am going to hit you!" Kazuki said angrily also opening his door and getting out.
"Whoa!... Hold on a minute!... You know you cannot do that. I will file a case against you for-for assaulting a police officer!" Jung stuttered fumbling round to release his seatbelt and then scrambled out of the car as Kazuki stormed round.
"Hey guys!..." Iliana called out before Kazuki could lay a finger on him.
Iliana pointed to the gates of the white mansion. Once everyone gathered round behind her Iliana asked.
"Are Lord Baddesley’s front gates always wide open like that?"
"Never... not unless it is heavily guarded with security!" Jung answered. "It is way too quiet."
"Almost like they are expecting us!" Kazuki added, then turned to Caitlyn and asked. "Still cannot get through to Father Benjamin?"
"No... it keeps going through to answer phone. I have left him a ton of messages!" She replied slipping the phone into the pocket of her high waist blue jeans.
"We might need you to do the Chant if it comes to it... will you be alright?... I know you have only just arrived back!" Kazuki said sounding benignant.
Caitlyn smiled then showed off her beautiful silver bracelet that she wore which had a string of white leather laced round it and was tied into a small bow.
"I am a Purifier too... I can do both, no matter what state of mind I am in." She said then winking at him making Kazuki grin.
Iliana had not seen this sociable side to Kazuki before and watching the rapport between him and Caitlyn suddenly made her heart twitch. A feeling she had not felt before. Jung watched Iliana try and shake the feeling away by shaking her head. He smiled to himself yet said nothing.
Something further up ahead at the end of the driveway caught the corner of Iliana’s eye. She rushed to the open gates for a better look. Parked crookedly on the foot of the flight of the steps to the front door was a black Jaguar car.
"That is Mother’s company car." Iliana reported out loud. "I knew she would come here."
"Then we must hurry!" Kazuki ordered now standing next to Iliana. "If Father Benjamin’s hunch is correct, they may be doing a ritual as we speak. We need to get there before a more powerful demon rises fresh from hell into another body of a human!"
They all hastily made their way through the open gates, but Iliana vaguely heard a whining noise from behind. She stopped and turned round to find Yuki pacing up and down the entrance of the gates. Everyone else also turned round as Iliana walked in a brisk pace back to her.
"Hey... Yuki, what is wrong?" Iliana asked kneeling down trying to calm her.
Yuki stopped pacing then stood in front of Iliana and started to bark as if telling her something.
"I know... it is scary... and I will not force you to come with us." Iliana said tickling Yuki under her chin. "Do not worry... I have people to help me now, I will not be alone in there."
Iliana then remembered how Yuki used to always be at her side when she Purified the human’s demon alone, over four years ago now. It was when the demon Arose from the human body on it’s own accord were Yuki would disappear out of fear. But she would always be waiting for her in a distance and greeted Iliana when she had finished. Leaving Yuki to sit by Jung’s car everyone else made their way to Lord Baddesley’s mansion.
"I love your dog." Caitlyn said to Iliana climbing up the steps to the house. "She is so well behaved and very beautiful."
"I know... I am lucky to have her." Iliana agreed beaming.
The front door of the mansion was closed but when Jung pushed the gold coloured door handle bar down and shoved the heavy door slightly, it opened.
"Okay... was not expecting that to open!" Jung remarked now pulling out a gun from behind him which was again tucked into his trousers. "This is really starting to look like a trap."
"Come on... let’s go!" Kazuki ordered ignoring Jung’s last comment but then took out his silver chain from under his school shirt and left it to hang over his collar with the silver cross dangling from it.
It was lucky Kazuki remembered where to go as Iliana had completely forgotten how to get to the room where the sacrificial table stood. Kazuki led the group down the desolate corridors until he stopped outside a room with closed double doors.
"I honestly do not know how you still remember where this room was... after all those winding corridors." Iliana whispered standing next to him before he attempted to open the door.
"It was good thing I was there that night, otherwise we would have spent a week or two trying to find the room with your memory!" Kazuki sarcastically commented in a low voice.
"Well... if it were not for me we would not have known about the room!" Iliana quickly snapped back.
"You only found it out by pot luck!" Kazuki retorted, his eyes piercing into hers.
"Yes... that maybe true... but I instinctively and quite bravely followed those two figures all the way up here. I could have just ignored them and turned back!" Iliana returned her cheeks flustering with rage.
"And if were not for me we would..." Kazuki began, his voice sounding a little agitated.
"Woo-woo!..." Jung interrupted waving his hands out in front of them both. "You two really need to sort out the timing of your little squabbles."
Then after a sulking sigh Jung added in a mutter.
"And I thought you both were getting along... Maybe not."
"I thought you two sounded like an old married couple." Caitlyn innocently added smiling from ear to ear. "It was kind of cute."
Kazuki rolled his eyes then turned the door knob and pushed the door opened in a slight huff.
"Something I said?" Caitlyn asked a little baffled by Kazuki’s reaction.
"You know Kazuki... he always turns his backs on little chit chats!" Jung answered walking into the room.
Caitlyn followed Jung inside but Iliana stood at the entrance feeling disheartened.
‘Why I am star
ting to grow such feelings for someone who still hates me?’ Iliana thought to herself then shook her head. ‘I need to focus on saving Mother, I must ignore these feelings that I have.’
"Iliana... are you alright?" Caitlyn asked quietly appearing in front of Iliana.
Iliana nodded then after taking a deep breath followed Caitlyn into the marbled room. Moving closer to the room where the sacrificial table existed sobbing noises echoed down the corridor. Everybody gave a nervous glance to one another before entering the room. Kazuki led the party inside gripping the cross hanging from his silver chain and Jung was behind him with his gun out in front of him. Caitlyn was in front of Iliana with one hand over the silver bracelet that she wore round her wrist on the other. Iliana however could not sense water, the marble walls were too thick and Iliana could not concentrate.
Like the rest of the whole house the room seemed empty.
"Over there!" Jung whispered nodding his head to the direction of the table.
A figure was curled up on top of the table, it was shrouded in a black cloth and the sobbing was coming from it. All four of them made their way to the table and stood by the high back chairs. Jung nervously glanced to Kazuki who nodded back to him. Jung outstretched his arm with his gun pointing to the direction of the figure.
"Show yourself!" Kazuki then said out loud, his voice echoed round the room.
The figure instantly got up into a sitting position and turned round with a shocked expression on it’s face.
"Mother!..." Iliana gasped, just about to step forward.
Kazuki stretched his arm out stopping Iliana.
"Don’t... we do not know if it is your real Mother." He said in a low voice.
"Iliana... it is me... your Mother." She sobbed tears running down her face. "What is going on?... Where am I?... What am I doing here?... Why will you not come to me?"
Her heart and her head divided, Iliana did not know what to do. It looked like Mother although the whites of her eyes were red due to her constant crying, the warm brown eyes were there. She was still wearing the black suit and trousers she wore when Iliana saw her at home. The black cloak was hanging off her shoulders and her hair fell untidily over her face.
