Men cannot be afraid to stand up and be the spiritual giants in their households. A man should get up and go to church on Sundays, even if his woman doesn’t. Her lack of participation shouldn’t keep him from worshipping. If she sees him making moves, she’ll eventually follow. A woman is naturally inquisitive, and anytime her man goes somewhere without her, she is most definitely going to ask where he’s been and what he did. A brutha sharing his experience after visiting the house of the Lord, will put his mate in such awe, she’ll be hanging on to his every word.
I have not said it to him, but Pastor Pollard has been a light that has helped me to see down plenty of dark, dismal roads. He is a man of great spiritual wisdom and every word he has ever shared with me fed my spirit. I deeply appreciate him and his involvement in my relationship with Cynthia. Yielding to a higher power has definitely strengthened my base with her.
I’m careful not to take Cynthia or any aspect of our lives for granted. We continue to build on our faith, our love and our businesses. We’re fortunate bar ONE is a national tourist attraction (where grown black women come looking for Peter Thomas). Cynthia is inspiring so many young girls to believe they can come out of a little, country place like Alabama and pursue their dreams. We both get off on the idea of using our aspirations to empower people.
Nothing is promised, so we work hard at maintaining humility and gratefulness, which keeps us grounded. I wake up every morning and ask her, “Honey, what are we going to do next?” Life has us on a crazy track where sometimes she’s going east and I’m going west, but our travels are always for the benefit of our family. We exist for only a moment in time, but no matter how much carry-on baggage life throws at us, I pray we’ll always manage to catch our flight and take the trip…together!
