The Belial Fall (The Belial Series Book 13)

And it is my job to keep that from happening.
“What about Moretti and the Vatican?”
“I haven’t returned his phone calls.”
“Are you planning on returning them?”
“Not sure. They’re guided by some apocalyptic prophecies.”
“You don’t believe them?”
She shrugged. “I think Delaney McPhearson has the potential to cause an apocalypse. I’m just not certain some long-dead psychics are the experts we should be turning to right now. But I’ll keep Moretti in the wings. He could prove useful again.”
It was why she had agreed to help the Vatican get McPhearson out of the country. She had wanted to clear the board for whatever actions Shremp was going to take. If they had somehow managed to take her out, her hands would be clean, and at least one of her problems would be gone. But they had failed. Now that problem remained.
“Do you think anyone will figure out a way to create the Fallen?”
“Of course. And whoever figures it out will be the most powerful country in the world.” Her eyes cut to him. “And we need to make sure it’s us.”
The idea of anyone else having that power was unimaginable. The U.S. was a symbol of democracy, freedom, and all that was decent in this world. They deserved to be on top.
She lifted her tumbler to Eric in salute. “After all, we’re the good guys.”
FACT OR FICTION?

Also, if you enjoyed The Belial Fall, please leave a review so other people can find the series. Now enough with all that, on to everyone’s favorite part: the facts!
Prophesies. The prophesies mentioned in The Belial Fall are real. A s to whether they have been accurately translated as applied to the current church is a matter of opinion. First, both Nostradamus and Malachy predicted the line of Popes would end with the 112th. (In fact, a third seer, the Monk of Padua who lived in the eighteenth century also predicted the same line of Popes.
The quote attributed to Nostradamus in The Belial Fall is also real. He did predict that the Cardinal would murder a Pope, just as Malachy predicts that the Rome will be destroyed and there will be a judgment. And the current Pope is in fact the 112th.
There is debate about the third secret of Fatima. As mentioned in The Belial Fall, Sister Lucia did write a third secret and said it should not be opened until 1960. The Church opened it at that time but did not reveal its contents until 2000. In fact at one point they said they would never reveal it. In response, a man named Laurence Downey hijacked a plane in 1981 demanding the secret be revealed. The Church however, did not relent until 2000. The revelation left many disappointed and wondering why the Church had refused to reveal it.
Some even argued that what the Church revealed was false and that the true prophesy is what can be found inside The Belial Fall. For more information, click here.
Pope Joan. The Catholic Church denies that there was ever a female Pope. As mentioned in The Belial Fall, the time during which Pope Joan was alleged to have risen to the head of the Catholic Church was a time where hygiene was not a critical factor of everyday life. As a result, it would be possible for a woman to hide her gender even while living with men.
According to reports, the direct route between St. Peter’s and the Pope’s residence was avoided for close to a century following Pope Joan’s death. There are statues of female Pope’s within the Vatican and the tarot card for secret knowledge did indeed depict a female Pope.
The Great Schism. The Great Schism mentioned in the Prologue that split the Roman Catholic Church from its more orthodox members is true. It is a few decades after that that Pope Joan is alleged to have been Pope.
Iran’s treatment of gay people. Sadly, everything in The Belial Fall depicting Iran’s treatment of homosexuals is accurate. They can face death if their status becomes known.
The Vatican as a Country. The Vatican is in fact a full fledged country in its own right. The Vatican is the world’s smallest country at only two square miles. Officially, it has only 600 citizens, although millions visit it annually. It also has its own television and radio stations, post office, banking and postal system, and newspaper. It even had its own police and security force.
The difficulties plaguing the Vatican bank are also true. Scandals wracked the financial arm of the Vatican’s empire involving issues from Mafia links to insurance benefits involving Jews from the Holocaust, covering up abuses of Vatican spending, and even laundering money for the underworld and Italian elites.
The Obelisk at the Vatican. The obelisk that sits in St. Peter’s square did in fact travel from Egypt. It was also at one point in the possession of both Caligula and Nero.
Underneath the Vatican. The Vatican had been built on the site of St. Peter’s grave, although construction on the Church did not begin until the fourth century A.D. There are sections underneath the Vatican that are completely off limits to the public, the site of Peter’s grave being one of them.
Women and the Church. Well, this is a slightly controversial subject. I have largely stayed away from any storylines involving the church because I did not wish to offend anyone in any way. But as we were moving along, I realized there was no way to avoid talking about the Church and it’s view of women.
As with many people, after I read The Da Vinci Code, I became fascinated by the early church. As referenced in The Da Vinci Code, there is a great deal of research supporting the idea that Mary Magdalene was indeed the wife of Jesus and two that he intended for her to be the head of his church after his death.
St. Peter. The stories attributed to Peter are true, at least according to the Bible. He was not a fan of women or Mary Magdalene in particular. And the Vatican is believed to be built over his grave.
Pope John Paul I. There have been rumors that Pope John Paul I was murdered by the church. He was only in office for fifty-five days when he died. Pope John Paul I did claim that God was not only the Heavenly Father but also the Heavenly Mother. He supported women’s rights and agreed to meet with a US delegation to discuss birth control
The night before his death he also allegedly asked for an investigation into the Vatican bank. He was found dead the next morning and his body was quickly embalmed and cremated. He is the only Pope to be cremated.
Castle San Angelo. The Castle is of course real. And the history depicted in The Belial Fall is real as well. It has at times been a home, a fortress, a prison, and a museum. There is also a tunnel leading from the Vatican to the castle through which at least one Pope had to escape.
Mary Magdalene. Mary Magdalene was never a prostitute. Pope Gregory the Great decided to link the two together even though there is nothing to suggest Mary was in fact the woman of ill-repute who bathed Jesus’s feet. There is however a great deal to suggest that Mary was a wealthy woman and one who was viewed by Jesus as his equal. And of course, there is the argument that she was in fact his wife.
Brotherhood of the Eclipse of the Sun. The Brotherhood of the Eclipse of the Sun is completely fictitious.
Nuns and Aging. A study was done on nuns and aging. According to the researchers, the most significant factor helping stave off the effects of Alzheimer’s was the intellectual activity level of the subject. Nuns who were more engaged intellectually with pursuits did not demonstrate behavior associated with the disease even though after death, it was clear they had the signs of the disease all over their brains. (Click here for a summary of the research or simply do a search for ‘nuns and dementia study’.)
So what should we take from that? We all need to read more, think more, and eat our greens! (Greens were not specifically mentioned in this study, but ever other study on longer lifespans mentions it!)
